REO Speedwagon - Lay Me Down Lyrics

I've played your game
And I've played it well.
I'll be another fool
To hang upon your wall.
I laid my heart out
Like an open book.
It's a simple thing and don't take much
To crack it open and bleed.
Lay me down.
Lay me down when you're through with me.
Lay me down.
Let me bleed when you're through with me.
Don't let me think you're wrong,
Just let me fall down.
I'll pick myself up again.
It's the kindest thing you can do for me,
So, woman, won't you lay me down.

I lied to myself.
Tried to believe in you.
But it's hard to rely on the ghost of someone you hardly even knew
You bring things out
Just to bring me down.
Then you twist them about and shove 'em in my face
Til my eyes can't see any good.
Yeah!

Maybe the hits afforded them better production, but the guitar sound on those his were monstrous, huge. I loved them. It just opened up his playing.

I saw them in Des Moines in the early 70's with Grand Funk Railroad. REO was a FAR better show, despite the incredible Don Brewers drumming for Grand Funk.

@Randie Moler I wish I would have been able to see them back in the early seventies. They must have rocked especially with Mike Murphy and Gregg Philban. a few years ago they had Ride n the storm out live in 1974 on youtube and it was great to watch I have never seen Murphy live I only watch the PBS special from 71

Without Gary there is no REO he is the most underrated guitar player I have seen the top 100 list from Rolling Stone and he is better then a bunch of guitarists on that list

Gary left the band in 1988. Due to creative differences with Kevin Cronin.

I had the chance to see these original members perform from this album in 1972 at a small venue in northern Illinois. Valerie, you're right-the first band had incredible energy and gave a knockout performance. After lead singer left and other band member changes, they lost that spark and are BLAH!

    Totally agree valerie

Only the best of REO ever, the first album. The new REO can't even come close to this !!! I saw them @ the KS. State fair 2 years ago, and they sounded weak at best.
