A deep album bit this song was beyond reproach. I worked for many years truck driving in Ireland and across Europe. Driving night and day gives you lots of self time, time to put tracks on repeat. I liked that getting to know the lyrics innately. I am older now but still under 50, don't drive at all but the lyrics are still as deep if not deeper. Life is tough for many and we hope sweetness follows.

crossmen 2018?

I received the CD version of Automatic For The People as a Christmas gift back in 1992. This song made me think of my mother who passed away last year after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Although I would have to say that my life hasn't been all that "sweet" since that happened, I've been trying to bond with the few remaining family members I have left.

The last truly profound band to come out of America.  This has a sensitive compassion that reminds me of James Taylor (not a bad thing)!

Its sad that people associate great music to a movie they saw or a video game.

mrobofco the movie made just as an impact on my view of life as the song.

I don't think that's a bad thing. I happened to be flipping channels one night on t.v. and I come across a show about some teenage heart throb rock band and it exposed me to the song Whiskey With My Friends by Casey and The Cigs and another time I learned about ELO's fantastic song Overture 10538 from a freakin mattress commercial! Haha Both songs were unique to me and fresh and just flat out good. So any way people can get exposed to music they like isn't such a bad thing.

I was born in 1976......if I could articulate all the bittersweet memories this song brings forth from my youth, I would.  This record was a constant along with every grunge album from the nineties, although this one was played during sex more than any other.  Beautiful album man.

My older sister introduced me to REM when I was six. Shortly after she got into the car one night with a drunk driver who crashed into a tree at 60 MPH, killing them both. Whenever the song says “listen here my sister and my brother, what would you care if you lost the other...” I lose it every time, 21 years later I am now 7 years older than she was when she died.
