R.E.M. - Femme Fatale Lyrics

Here she comes
You better watch your step
She's going to play you for a fool
It's true

It's not hard to realize
Just look into her false colored eyes
She'll build you up to just put you down
What a clown

'Cause everybody knows
The things she does to please
She's just a little tease
See the way she walks
Hear the way she talks

You're written in her book
You're number 37, have a look
She's going to play you for a fool
Yes it's true

Little boy on the street
Before you start, you're already beat
She's gonna smile to make you frown
What a clown

'Cause everybody knows (She's a femme fatale)
The things she does to please (She's a femme fatale)
She's just a little tease (She's a femme fatale)
See the way she walks
Hear the way she talks

'Cause everybody knows (She's a femme fatale)
The things she does to please (She's a femme fatale)
She's just a little tease (She's a femme fatale)
Oh

R.E.M. Femme Fatale Comments
  1. S.... ....

Given Big Star's acknowledged influence on REM, I'm pretty sure that this song is more likely inspired by Big Star's own cover of the song on their 1974 album Third/Sister Lovers. So it probably makes more sense to compare this cover to the Big Star version rather than the Nico/Velvet Underground version. If that makes sense.

    S.... ....

Considering they were going to put There She Goes Again on their first album if it weren’t for royalties, I’d say they more than likely took inspiration from both

  2. D.... H....

Again another great cover that lead me to The Velvet Underground ☺️😚😋😂

  3. W.... M....

I don't think people get the concept of a "cover", it's okay if you don't like it as much as the original.

  4. M.... R....

I enjoy your comments, people. I don't prefer one version over the other, I, like some of you, embrace them both (VU&Nico and this one). Given the difference in Nico's and Stipe's voices, the two version feel like two different songs almost.
You should also check Alejandro Escovedo's version. I find it real nice, too. Not so sure off the top of my head, but the main diff. his version features is the lovely harmony between his voice and the back vocals in the chorus.

  5. G.... P....

it all depends on whether you can stick Nicos voice or not, cos everything else is identical. For me, its gotta be this version, Stipes voice is perfect. I discovered this before I'd heard the original so maybe I'm biased but i was very disappointed when Nico started singing. Horrible!

    G.... P....

Guitar is too strong on this one and overpowers Stipe's voice. Interesting to hear male voice though, it makes more sense to be sung by a man scorned.

  6. B.... B....

Respectful cover. But Nico owns this song the way REM owns Man on the Moon or Losing My Religion.
    Imagine Nico covering those!

    B.... B....

    Oh Nico is si bored...

  7. 3.... P....

n young & rem were emo before emo was emo. awwww

  8. D.... N....

    Better than the Nico/Warhol version.

    D.... N....

how can you say that I just don't understand

  9. S.... W....

The REM treatment, sparse and fragile, fits well into their repertoire - but I can't retune my ears away from Nico's wasted, industrial, sub-mezzo tone and awkward delivery.  I *will* try.....

    S.... W....

Nico's voice suits the song. Guitar's too loud in this one

  10. D.... I....

If you guys like this cover, check out Duran Duran's! It's AMAZING!

    D.... I....

    no thanks...
