R.E.M. - Falls To Climb Lyrics
I'll take the position
Assume the missionary part
You work by committee,
You had me pegged from the start.
I'll be pounce pony,
Pony before the cart.
I'll be pounce pony.
This ceremony
Only fills my heart.
Who cast the final stone?
Who threw the crushing blow?
Someone has to take the fall
Why not me?
A weakling on its knee.
Is all you want to hear
And all you want to see.
Romantically, you'd martyr me
And miss this story's point
It is my strength, my destiny
This is the role that I have chosen.
Who cast the final stone?
Who threw the crushing blow?
Someone has to take the fall
Why not me?
Gentlemen mark your opponents
Fire into your own ranks.
Pick the weakest as strategic
Move. Square off. To
Meet your enemy.
For each and every gathering
A scapegoat falls to climb.
As I step forward, silently.
Deliberately mine.
Who cast the final stone?
Who threw the crushing blow?
Someone has to take the fall
Why not me? Why not me.
Had consequence chose differently
Had fate its ugly head
My actions make me beautiful
And dignify the flesh
Me. I am free. Free.

R.E.M. Falls To Climb Comments
One of REM's best and most beautiful songs. I'm in my early 20's and I love these old songs over the new pop garbage out now.
I think the band has some malice in making certain songs intentionally in make you feel emotional and cry. The case of this song.
Jesus Christ is the final cornerstone. Obedience is greater than sacrifice. Christ did all the sacrifice for you. Don't be convinced by the world that you have to go through a black hole to enter a white hole. The mountain exists through all the valley. El Shaddai has never left you. Space is the Holy Spirit and space is infinite. Time(El Olam) is the Father and He is eternal. Energy is Christ and He has unlimited anti-matter. God bless you. God is rainbow but God isn't homosexual. You know this deep in your heart. Change eros to Agape. Abstain from fleshy desires. Take care of your temple but realize you will get a new body later. Better to enter the Kingdom of Heaven lame than for your whole healthy body to burn in Hell.
Someone has to take the fall, why not me.... Some s me up... Love this tune. What a band.

I started a search from the line " My actions make me beautiful " and finally ended up here... I knew that was from a great song.
In my opinion out of everything he's ever sung, this is Michael Stipe's finest hour.
I miss them every single day
Goose bumps...
But the REM fans understand
Heard at a very apt time upon seeing them 'live' in '99.
Up should have been big
always to me seemed the greatest of anti-war songs. better than "masters of war" better than anything. is killing your self worse than killing another person just because your leaders tell you they are your enemy?
Introspective doesn’t get any better than this
My, my, I feel like crying. They threw stones at me, Michael. Love you for giving my overactive mind an outlet in dark anti-social times. Few of your songs with REM affect me as deeply as this one.
Wish i get to hear this when i breathe my last
REM hit another universal chord with the song, no pun intended.
Bill berry ya NO ERA MAS PARTE de la banda!!!
Played this album to death on my cassette Walkman as an awkward nearly-teenager. Understated and such a great final track.
MichaelBosley
It was late 1999 when i first listened to it...brilliant album ☝❤
REM should be VERY proud of their body of work. What brilliant song and album that I consider a masterpiece.
masterpiece
All songs by Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Michael Stipe unless otherwise stated. It was the band's first album without original drummer Bill Berry, who left the group amicably in October 1997 to pursue his own interests. In his place, R.E.M. used session drummers and drum machines.
UP for this album!!
Superb song
A beaautiful song !!
i am free.................................classic
masterpiece.
Epic !!!!
I've just gone from Black Dog On My Shoulder by The Manics to this. Both great songs but it's safe to say today I am having a down day 😦😢
Man I love this song. The bridge on this one is one of their best to me.
The best song on my least favorite R.E.M. album.
all rights reserved to berry its says,he was not involved in this album
+Samuel Wahlberg no Brian Eno produced this ONE!
Samuel Wahlberg maybe to give him some coin
A great song to listen to on those occasions in life where you feel utterly defeated.
+Richard Egan DITTO RICH!
Ha, this comment nails it.
Quite possibly the best album....and an epic last song to sign off with
One of the hidden gems of this best ever group.
+Eiran Shoshani SHAME ITS NOT BEEN DONE LIVE!
ill take the position assume the missionary part!..ill be pounce pony phony maroney pony before the cart! You work by committee you had me pegged from the START!..R.I.P Dr Peter Duke!1970-2001
Sales don't equal quality.
+myempathy ain`t that the truth?
The organ reminds me of Let Me In
This is my favourite track off the album.
David Deutscher da Peace!!!
Even mine
Likewise.....it's beautiful.
This is a very underrated song from R.E.M.
grimlund underrated album
Park and Harbour animation what!????? Crazy
grimlund The best song on the album for me. I appreciate the inventivenesss of ‘Up’ but I don’t think it flows well and is (for want of a better word) depressing. Some great moments but I just think it could’ve been so much better and also chopped down by a couple of songs at least.
Abdolutely
you all not only have taste...but good taste!
Except I think the "war" is a metaphor for the personal. All the tiny wars in your life are just like the actual wars out there - and sometimes it's just as well to fire into your own ranks.
I always liked the slow songs
Along with "Be Mine" probably my favourite REM song
Always struck me as an antiwar ballad. Fire into yourown ranks as pointless and destructive as firing on the socalled enemy
Life told as a poetry, the name of the album is to say that they reached an extraordinary level of awareness of their work. It is art in its highest form.
Flawless
Nearly brings me to tears...one of my favorites.
Absolutely love this song...
Time for an ASMR infused music session.
?????? what
1998,
I have so many memories of this year...
if only I could turn back time
it was my first CD what i played on a DVD player and it will be the last!!
stupenda
Last CD my ex-wife bought me, hugely ironically.
This is definately a top 3 REM song for me, thank you for uploading
This whole is CD is excellent. And so overlooked
@LukelearMissile some kind of noise effect through a synthesizer...
che meraviglia............
Got me through the hardest time of my life this album. I can't believe it's been 13 years...damn...
