R.E.M. - Be Mine Lyrics

("A speed zone up here too")

I never thought of this as funny
It speaks another world to me
I want to be your Easter bunny
I want to be your Christmas tree.

I'll strip the world that you must live in
of all its godforsaken greed.
I'll ply the tar out of your feathers.
I'll pluck the thorns out of your feet.
you and me.
you and me.

and if I choose your sanctuary
I want to wash you with my hair.
I want to drink of sacred fountains
and find the riches hidden there.

I'll eat the lotus and peyote.
I want to hear the caged bird sing.
I want the secrets of the Temple.
I want the finger with the ring.
you and me.
you and me.
you will see.

that if you make me your religion
I'll give you all the room you need.
I'll be the drawing of your breath.
I'll be the cup if you should bleed.

I'll be the sky above the Ganges
I'll be the vast and stormy sea.
I'll be the lights that guide you inward.
I'll be the visions you will see.

the visions you will see.

you will see.
you will see.
you and me.
you and me.
you and me.

The ultimate Love song of all times

stipe considers this a creepy obsessive song

David Gilmour guitar solo as the outro will make this a masterpiece! But it is already a masterpiece itself, my favorite REM love song

  6. J.... L....

Some freeform lyric vvriting concentrating on many religious aspects. Starting off vvith that report coming from a shortvvave radio. VVhich means another instant classic by REM! NAIH-F being one of the top 3 best by REM (other than Document and Green). This could be their Sgt Peppers LHCB if you had to put it that vvay.

  7. J.... G....

    Underrated!

  8. K.... ....

This is my favourite song of all time & my wife picked it to walk down the aisle to when we got married last year. Still gives me a lump in the throat to think about it now

....Mike Mills' last album with R.E.M....they were never the same after this album...what a change in the band that followed this last Mills album....

    P.... J....

Stipe's genius can never be understated

I once edited R.E.M.'s cover of Leonard Cohen's "First We Take Manhattan", cutting out all the choruses. (Why? Because they're not as good as the verses--at least not in their version. Which is a great version, by the way, especially when you take into account that R.E.M. wasn't exactly Three Dog Night when it came to covering other artists's songs.)

Subtracting the choruses gave "Manhattan" a repetitive (and even more R.E.M.-ish) power - but it also reminded me very strongly of "Be Mine", which is basically a string of verses, which if read aloud sound more like Cohen than Stipe; in fact, "Be Mine" is, by far, the most Cohen-esque lyric Stipe has ever written, unless I missed one.

  13. M.... S....

I wish this was released in 1994 so it could have been m wedding song

    I love how I Am The Walrus-y 2.29 feels.

  16. J.... S....

reminds me of a mixture of two Foo Fighters songs on the color and shape album

  17. c.... ....

Stipe and Buck at their best.
Jesus fuckin Christ, the guitar crashing end is so fuckin good.

  18. m.... s....

Incredible song and although all songwriters can say 'it's not about me.' he put the words to paper. This from someone who doesn't care much for writing love songs and that makes sense since this doesn't subscribe to the tired old cliche ridden formula. Superb.

The outro should have went on for two minutes more...........

"I'll be the sky above the Ganges"...wow

Mike Mills the man behind this beautiful guitar tone - P Buck on bass. Imagine having a bassist who can play guitar this beautifully... Spoil of riches.

  23. c.... ....

My favorite off the album. Peter Buck has a great tone on this.

I think Mike Mills plays guitar on this one.

    amazing song......thank you REM....

  32. S.... T....

They were one of the biggest bands in the world, but this is so far from mainstream radio-friendly AOR it's ridiculous. Just a fantastic song from a band who never rested on their laurels. And Peter a Buck is the only man on the planet who can make a Rickenbacker sound anything but rubbish.

    S.... T....

+Steve Turpin him and ed obrien.
