Relient K - Maybe It's Maybeline Lyrics
People make mistakes
we find that everything breaks
and it always is the same, gotta find someone to blame
and these errors that we make (cause we're all human earthquakes)
yeah, we made the hurricane, yet we're not the one's to blame?
we point the finger even though it's not polite
we condemn the son of God (we're hoping two wrongs make a right)
maybe it is them
or, maybe it is me
or, maybe it's maybeline
people make mistakes
we took the apple from the snake
and it always is the same:
gotta find someone to blame
America's gone done the drain
the president's fault again?
we point the finger even though it's not polite
we condemn the son of God (we're hoping two wrongs make a right)
maybe it is them
or, maybe it is me
or, maybe it's maybeline
the truth is, excuses are lame
accept consequence
accept the blame
we're all sinners
we're all unclean
maybe we're born with it
or maybe it's maybeline

Relient K Maybe It's Maybeline Comments
Man, it's been 10 years since this song. It feels so weird
Wow. I forgot what a great song this is.
Their best❤️🙌🏽😂
stage with bb cream
This is the best song ever reliant k is amazing.
Songs like this are why I don't think this is a "Christian band". There's too much nuance for it to be Christian
Chuldo too much nuance? Every type of music on the face of this Earth Christian or Islamic or Hindu or what have you, has what you call "nuances." Us musicians call them notes.
I know exactly what you mean about 'tacking God in at the end'. That definitely happens, and I'd even say it feels out of place in some of their songs, when the song is not thematically Christian. But it's also definitely not all of their songs, and Deathbed is not a good example of this trend, either. The God part is at the end, but it's not 'tacked on' at all. The whole rest of the song is leading up to and pointing at the God part, making it the focal point, as illustrated by the long, long instrumental outro, to add emphasis to the final words.
As far as this song in particular goes, it's not quite as overtly Christian as, say, Less Is More, or Getting Into You, but the theme is most certainly one of the staples of Christian mentality, which any participant of a 12 step program will also recognize. Natural tendency is to excuse or ignore any evil within oneself. Humanism would even go so far as to claim there is no such thing as evil. The first step to being a Christian, identical to the first step in recovery, is to recognize the evil in oneself, and admit that it is self originated and not to be blamed on others. This theme, along with the heavy implication throughout the song that our imperfections are unacceptable and inexcusable, is not exclusively Christian, but it is unquestionably going down that path.
As I see it, nuance is just noting that there are small differences that can affect a meaning. Maybe you're saying that people need to take note of the small differences that indicate that it's not a Christian band, but I don't see that. When the song elaborates on the meaning of "Maybe it's Maybeline," it talks about blaming others. If you mean something else by your original comment, it is too vague for me to understand at the moment.
Another thing to note is that a band can have some neutral songs and still generally be Christian.
lmao anyone who doesn't think RK is a christian band is an idiot. listen to this whole album, there are several songs that are quite explicit about it. one of the choruses in one starts "Never underestimate my Jesus" for fuck's sake
Um. This song is brilliant.
mayyyyybeeeeee

Maybeline used to have a slogan:
Maybe she's born with it...
Maybe it's Maybeline.
it's sort of a way of saying, are we born this way? or did we do this to ourselves?
I listen to this song every time I'm pissed at people lol
