My son was born 10 weeks early on Dec 24, 2007. We both almost didn't make it. I had HELLP syndrome. My husband took some of the videos and pics I took and put them to this song and gave it to me from our son. No one has been able to watch more than 10 seconds of the video without crying. I am happy to say our son is now a happy, healthy, hockey and baseball playing 10 year old. This song touches our hearts deeply. I was so moved to finally get to hear Johnny sing it live last week in Halifax, NS, at his concert. <3

i played this song at my grandma's funeral 2 years ago because i wanted to thank her for the life she gave me and for all the love she gave me. every weekend she would stay over after my grandfather died and she would tell me everything i wish i could have gone back and tell her thank you. she helped me threw my break ups, my fails and my achievements she never let me down. we also played it because this song i felt this song everyone who was there could relate to this song in some way.

I merely wish to extend my sympathies to you and your family, and to show you gratitude for reminding me how short and precious time is especially with respect to our loved ones. I have been feeling down for selfish reasons lately (hence the reason I stumbled onto this video), and you reminded me that I need to snap out of it because our time on this planet, and with our loved ones, is precious and short. Most importantly, that waiting around for second chances or for something to change is time WASTED as no one knows what tomorrow will bring...

What a priceless gift he was able to give you and your family. I'm sure his mother equally benefited from his gift because it reminded her that she raised a wonderful son. A parent's goal in life is, most importantly, for their child to live a happy and healthy life, and watch their child become a good and kind person who will eventually spread their goodness to other people. Whether it be via love of a wife, a dedicated father and/or friend, a loyal and loving son, or even just being a productive member of society with as few bumps as possible along the way. Ring any bells? ;)
 
To see their child love someone as much as he clearly loved you must have been one of the proudest moments of his mother's life. I wonder if he ever realized that his gift to you was most likely an equally treasured gift to his mother. For him to trust her with such an important, arguably THE MOST important task his life, says a lot about his love for you and her, and it speaks volumes about his character as human being, and this is coming from a complete stranger.

For adults especially, I think people forget that the pain of losing a parent is always painful and extremely difficult no matter the conditions or circumstances. Sometimes, albeit probably not realizing, we sometimes tend to devalue that kind of pain as "just a natural part of life" and present the "life goes on but I know you're sad" response when an adult loses one. This is especially true when the person's parent has, for example, reached old age and presumably lived a full life and/or, slowly faded away for months or years with an illness like cancer where passing is probably welcomed by both the child and parent only because it is unbearable to suffer so long or to watch someone you love suffer for so long. But, we are truly never prepared even in these cases.

The loss of a life partner or a parent is something most people will experience in their life, but the pain felt is the same no matter who, when, why or how old we happen to be at the time. I know because I've gone through it twice myself. Both were lost to very long and painful battles with cancer. One when I was the tender age of 19, and the other at 35 when I was able to view the parent/child dynamic through the perspective of being a parent. I lost my father first so I know what you went through not having him there on your wedding day. Even though for me it was a few years after I lost him, the wound seemed almost brand new when I had to finally face the reality that he would not only not be there to "give me away" or meet my husband, but also because he would never know his grandchildren or see how his life and love directly impacts their lives every single day. I have not lost a husband so I can only imagine what that must of been like for you, but I almost did once, and it was a truly terrifying experience to say the least. I can't imagine if I had been in the position to experience the other outcome. My eyes were certainly opened, and I began to see him VERY differently because of the experience though so I guess I am grateful for that as well. My heart truly aches for you.

I'm sure even though your pain was unbearable, you would experience it a million times over if it meant never having known their love and devotion. I know I would. Moments can be few, and sometimes they can be many, but they are precious just the same. Thank you for the reminder although I am sorry it took your pain to shake me awake. My belated condolences to you and your family.
