Regina Spektor - Obsolete Lyrics
This is how I feel right now
Obsolete manuscript
No one reads and no one needs
Pages lost, incomplete
No one knows what it means
Minds grow dark, so suddenly
I was lost on your street
Hey I'm talking to myself
I can hear you listening in
To my thoughts, to my dreams
What I want, can't compete
Obsolete
Take me to the water's edge
Let me stand in the sand
Useless part
This useless heart
Useless art
What am I? Why I am I
Incomplete?
Obsolete
This is how it feels right now
Obsolete manuscript
No one reads, no one needs
Useless part
This useless heart
Useless art
What am I? Why I am I
Incomplete?
Obsolete
All I want
Can't compete
All I want
Is a sleep
All I want
Incomplete
All I want
Obsolete

Regina Spektor Obsolete Comments
regina's songs are pretty sad but this one is something else. she somehow managed to distill raw depression into a song
Saw "Egg"
my heart's broken
she loves this kinda song... in every album there´s a song inspiring sadness , perhaps of loss or not being as you want... amazing im also at the very edge of crying
Everyone feels a lil obsolete sometimes and this song sums up the whole mood. I love how Regina’s lyrics are like poetry.
Perfection
This song is always there when I need it. At the end of a bad day just to know someone felt the same as me. I think it's about dementia but the feeling of fading away and not being needed is what is relatable.
Beautiful
"Why am I incomplete, obsolete..." Damn, this hurts, but idk, In a good way I guess, like, I don't feel alone
I like the Delicatessen inspired parts the best
This makes me think of an older person who's coming to the end of their life who feels like they learned so much which isn't relevant anymore or even that people don't care about their opinions anymore making them obsolete but also like they didn't get to finish learning what the world has to offer so they're going to be incomplete as well.
Making records made her obsolete
Regina has a song called making records where she says something about becoming obsolete
I actually have quite a few of her songs on a personal playlist for my webcomic. Typically songs that make me think of particular characters. I have this song for a golem character named Dumah who gains full sentience and tries her best to look real like everyone else but knows deep down that she's missing something and is thus an incomplete being.
I connect strongly with this song at this time in my life. Especially because she captures the emotion so well.
What is easily disregarded in her songs, because of their flawless structure and easy listening, is her incomparable mastery of harmony and piano technique. Each of her songs, and this one more than others, resounds with multiple echos, from the late romantic and early XX century classical composers, and with the traditional east-european melodies. What a blessing!

Ethereal and sublime
Feels like she's talking about depression...
Underrated. Should have more views.
This is by far the saddest freaking son Ive ever heard. I was seriously going to cry.
so i sing and cry my heart out every time i hear this song. i love it so much. Regina is seriously a musical and emotional genius. her lyrics and haunting melodies are my everything.
Dearest Regina. It's Jesus, the One you are looking for. I hope one day you find Him.
Love your music btw.

Believe your fairy story if it gives you solace! But don’t be so arrogant as to impose them on others! We can all think for ourselves!🤔✌️
This my first listen to this amazing album. Small Bills grabbed me in a Chipotle on Shazam. This entire album like this song with these amazing harmonies with the chord movement and melody is intoxicating. I'm waiting for a special occasion such as my second wedding to purchase it. It is just that special to me.
This song is perfect for anyone who has suddenly realized they need something different and want to start over but they are so not ready and haven't fixed themselves and feel empty and just... not enough. Like walking through your life as a stranger and making comments. idk, just my thoughts :)
:( poor thoughts of yours
i havent been able to find one single song of hers that i dont like. always fresh and original. love her!
Me too, I literally cannot find one. She IS that magical.
Anyone else get an ABBA vibe from this one? Picking it up particularly at 0:50. Think "Like An Angel Passing Through My Room."
Ese dolor es un homenaje a las almas humildes que superan la mediocridad.
If any future tour goers capture this song at this show....I was crying as it played and I didn't get it. I had no idea I would love it so much. It's already so beautiful but with the cello, the viola and two violins....it is perfection. If anyone films it, drop me a line. On my channel I posted lots of great videos from Radio City Music Hall Saturday night (March 11, 2017). Cheers.
Love it ! truly love it
My favorite of Regina's work. Just mesmerizing; a masterpiece that I just can't stop replaying.
And I thought How was perfection..
Those were the days when Small bills was the best then came The Light and now this. For the 11th time in a row I make useless art
Le meilleur titre de l'Album, c'est juste sublime
Ç'est ainsi comme je me sens maintenant

I stopped breathing during this song.
If only I could hold my breath for six and a half minutes, swimming would be even more awesome.
but the music itself is breathing
So you’re dead or severely brain damaged? 😂 couldn’t resist.
I died. I'm better than you HA
I think this is her best stuff, there's literally so many songs on this album that I love! It's so eerie and beautiful.
Idk why... but i feel that this song is about someone suffering from alzheimers. someone feeling literally as if pages were missing in their minds.
for example....also authism
this song is so right for the letter I'm currently composing
I want details on this letter
This is the most beautiful song.
Regina Splendor
This made me cry. Incredible.
me do dude.
Das traurigste, aber schönste Lied von der neuen CD. Wunderbar.
My favourite song off of the album. Simply amazing. I believe she is at her peak now. Remember us to life is so meticulously thought out.
If you are going to her concert.....and can get this song. I was there at Radio City Saturday night. I only knew a few songs before going. That said, I did a good job and captured all the ones I loved. As this one went on and on though, I was crying and thinking UH OH......I can't find anyone yet who has posted it. Yes, I considered tearing off to DC but a storm is coming and that's crazy. Are you going? With the cello and violins it is pure perfection, you are correct, sir!
I've seen her once just last November, she was unbelievable, I'm from the UK. Once every four years she is here, I love her and have been following her for 13 years now.
Ahhh. I am usually in Vancouver, but trying to escape so came to NYC a few months. I had never seen her but wow. Haven't stopped watching and posting since the concert. I got a really good version of US. I'm in the mezzanine, so video isn't always best but the sound is, better than the guy up close. Take a look, I have posted Us, Grand Hotel, Ne me quitte pas, Blue Lips, Ballad of a Politician, The Light and...her calling her Mom who was sick and not at her first home show.....into "Black and White." The "up-close" guy got a great version of "Better," mainly because of the ending. It's brilliant. He also got Grand Hotel. It's cool to see her, but I tried to catch the string instruments which I love and the whole view is very magical. I guess you will have to travel to see her, build a trip around it. I have done crazier things.
I'd follow her all over if I had the money, she's sensational. Her heart and they way she completely strips herself of everything and puts it in her music, she's so talented, my first car was called Regina ha. Those sound awesome I'll check them out. Thank you very much. Have a good time in New York. I'm in England surrounded by onion and potato fields :(
Onion and potato fields, huh? I guess it's depressing everywhere.
This reminds me of Lisa Germano.
Just wow.
Amen. Good ear, BTW. It makes me feel good to know others can hear this type of beauty as well. Check out Blonde Redhead - For the Damaged, and for the Damaged Coda, then explore the entire album Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons. Then the Album 23, and Barragán
This is such a beautiful song! So haunting.
