Refused - The Deadly Rhythm (Of The Production Line) Lyrics
This union that made us powerless is talking over our heads
Claiming prosperity in a downward spiral plan
Stuck by the deadly rhythm of the production line
Stuck by the deadly rhythm of the production line
This power that made us unionless is taking out of our hands
Cheapest labour at our expensive cost, auctioned our lives away
Stuck by the deadly rhythm of the production line
Stuck by the deadly rhythm of the production line
We consume our lives like we are thankful
For what we are being forced into
Is it our duty to die for governments & for gods?
Is it our right to follow laws, set to scare and to oppress?
Is it a gift to stay in line and will it take away the blame?
Can no longer pay the price. We'll get organized!
We'll no longer believe working for you will set us free!
Can no longer pay the price. We'll get organized!
We'll no longer believe working for you will set us free!

cette music me gais beaucoup de bien
as a drummer this right here was THE game changer
Utterly genius musicians. Childish neo-Marxist lyrics...
Awww did the lyrics hurt your fascist feewings?
fuck your bullshit
Antonio Aguilera Barrena
such power, and skill, love this band
the swing part in the middle with the walking bassline gives me chills
The Shape of Punk to Come is a masterpiece in punk/hardcore music history, genre transcending art that kicks ass like crazy!
This is by far one of their best releases. But that's my opinion.
Any one know any other bands like this? I have yet to find one that comes close
oh well..guess its just me then
Closest recent bands/Album for me is probably Gallows' Grey Britain. Had the same kinda feel for me as SOPTC while still being different. Otherwise yeah Fugazi is as groundbreaking and experimental on almost all of their albums imo
I know everyone hates labels, but language is a necessary evil, and is entirely comprised of labels (signs pointing to other signs pointing to other signs, ad nauseam), so I'm gonna say do a search for "Jazzcore" and "spazzcore", but in general, here are a few similar bands* to start you off: Hella, Botch, Ruins.
* There are actually a ton. I made an entire Pandora station with 25 songs by 25 different bands who are very much like Refused. And to be honest, while I absolutely love Refused, esp. for the political lyrics, all 25 of those songs are far more hard hitting, wildly experimental, and mind-blowing than even this gem of a Refused song! Station: https://www.pandora.com/station/play/3741387956356554316
Breach, Nine, Abhinanda...
Botch? Early Magrudergrind? Double Negative?
BEWARE! The deadly rhythm
can we talk about how hard dillinger jacked this songs idea for when i lost my bet
Are you kidding me? Dillinger were already making music like this around the time this album came out. Their first ep from 1997 pretty much invented the entire math-core genre. The guys in Refused were definitely familiar with Dillinger when they recorded this. The guys in Dillinger are definitely fans of Refused, but get the fuck outta here with that bullshit.
Dillinger got the inspiration for that section in When I Lost My Bet from Driva Man by Max Roach w/ Abbey Lincoln.
"Post-Hardcore"??
this song would be more like mathcore
The fucking labels are impossible to keep up with. Who gives a fuck. It's rock and roll.
Some people just like music more than genres \m/
No. Hardcore punk.
@Richard Glenn Rock n roll is the only label that really matters in this debate. But in the greater scheme just music music music. All music. How can anyone exclude themselves from enjoying all music in favor of a scene? The original hardcore scene begins with Igor Stravinsky's Rites of Spring and, more poignantly, Gustav Holst's Planets suite, movement 1. Mars, Bringer of War.
Kopfsalat !..!
instrumentally this band was UNREAL
Aside from the cliche bullshit communist politics. This one's great.
There's nothing communist about not wanting to buy into the establishment's bullshit that enslaves us .
Conor Smith - You would have a point, if Refused were not self-professed Marxists. They were communists, and last I heard from Dennis Lyxzen (lead singer) in interviews... he was still Marxist. Less radical, but still a communist.
In terms of actual political action, they're straight edge liberal feminists more than they are anything else - they can hold whatever views they want but the only political action I've found them taking was going vegan, trying to appoint more women in their staff, and some of them being conflicted about accepting an award from the state or something; hell the lead singer owns multiple record labels; can't get more capitalist in the music industry than that.
theyre socialist anarchists lmao
Americans can refer to bands like Creed and Nickelback to fulfill their wishful Neo-Con thinking
These dudes were prophets.
I must say this is a mighty fine song
yes....ahead,,,,
best song on this album
It was wierd in the sense that it was so forward thinking and predicted the way punk music was heading, yet it fit right in with other music being released around the same time.
I know it's now a bit of a cliche to say so, but it really is the ultimate album for hardcore punk music and they are the best band I've seen live by far.
Ty sweden, for hardcore music.
ca envoie la rrraaaccceeee!!!!!!!!!!
Saw them on tour... did this song - so tight, so delightfully awesome.
Proud to be a fucking swede!
I believe they made it for the album.
lucky. all my teachers like are britpop, or should i say shitpop. oh well. ur teacher rocks :D
that intro, is that a sample or they made it for the album?
Well, yeah... considering I've never heard another album like it. I'd say that's an accurate description.
refused 4E
REFUSED was definitely a straight-forward hardcore band in their start. All dem' mosh parts. I think with The Shape of Punk to Come they just changed their sound a lot, while still staying true to the original sound.
Who gives a fuck vv
Whoa... great fucking teacher.
It was to my knowledge that screamo was really just a powerviolence-y hardcore punk, really.
Palatka would have a bone to pick if you called them 'screamo.'
Oh my god, please just stop. This is not screamo at fucking all. Just because a vocalist screams does not make it screamo, learn this now. Screamo is an actual genre. This, however, is hardcore.
I just bought this CD and it's amazing. I love Refused.
this album was ridiculously ahead of its time.
It was the Shape of Punk to Come, in more ways than one.
fuck scremo this is revolutionary punk music.
its hardcore
imitation is the highest form of flattery
Lyrics are profound..
scremo
they are awesome and pretty old but look up Swing Kids while you're at it. Refused totally bit their style after their european tour.
Me tooooooo!!!! This Friday - FUCK YEAH!!!!
GET TO WATCH THESE GUYS SOON!!! SO FREAKIN PUMPED!!!
They didnt steal. They were inspired by them. It's inspiration, not stealing man. But you're right. Not enough credit is given to them for what they did. They brought an energy to music which wouldn't be around today if i weren't for them.
Zero credit? Really? You don't really know what you're talking about, do you?
Cant wait til these guys walks on stage on WoW 2012 in their homeland of Sweden. Gives me the chills........they will totally destroy!!!! It might be the 13th time im gone see them live but this one is by far the most nted one......;)
Hopefully they play this song for you, John.
Indeed they are. Got my ticket yesterday to go see them in Manchester Aug 14th!
it ended mid 90's dude
Dont worry dude, there are a few modern bands (the ones that are good not just "good looking") that say how influential and mind blowing this album is. not all hope is lost.
Nah dude they're back on tour check out their website.
gotta love the Swedish hc stuff, yea these guys are done but at least you have suis la lune, and sore eyelids, not as high energy but oh man their good. Refused always reminded me of Snapcase and the sound that was coming out of Buffalo New York and Erie Pennsylvania at the time but just with more experimentation, but yea they sounded like some lake effect hardcore shit.
My favorite breakdown of all time!
You do know that the real peak of hardcore was in the US between about 1979 and 1986 right?
definitly
Murrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
you're so true to the core and the scene man you must have so many punk pointz. who cares. so many people know about them and i think their recent reunion shows proves that. everyone was jerking them off. get over yourself and just listen to music and enjoy it. buttmunch.
lol, Well... I should say the average punk fan (not the hardcore punk fan) probably didn't know Refused too much. Not as much as now anyway. I realize there were probably a good share of U.S. Refused fans... it's just that I hear the album wasn't accepted too well by the U.S. at the time. (I'm 20... and I was five when the album came out. I wouldn't know from experience. Just hear say.)
lol don't assume to much lil guy ;)
No, most hardcore punk fans outside of Sweden probably didn't even know much about Refused. Maybe they knew "New Noise"... but they probably had no idea who the band really was.
Well, it's always good to see history redone. Most of the people didn't know the band 8 months ago, and now they give you some "Hey kid, listen to what music actually was back in the days". Give me a break. And if you can rip something whithout knowing it, I tell you guys, there is nothing new that have been done since Bach and Beethoven. I didn't know Refused cause in the 90 I was listening to RATM, Alice in Chains, Suicidal Tendencies, Megadeth etc. Is that make me an ignorant ? Don't think so
One's influence can be peripheral as well as direct.
Uhm... writing and playing riffs that have already been written, without knowing that you're doing it. Yeah... that's how. Not that hard to figure out.
Saw then last Saturday live. Amazing live Band!
Sounda like the protest to the system ! They shoud join Anonymous
A lot of people I have met that are into harder punk rock (not this modern "hardcore" aka Drop-C Warped Tour bands) have liked these guys. I'm not too familiar with em at all, but I kinda like this. I like the other song I've heard, "New Noise" a lot.
oh fuck geilschte brutale huere shit GREENFIELD 2012 wird abgooooo
Yes you are correct sir/miss. But it benefits us to know wisdom was bestowed in the right places.
What's hilariously ironic is they were one of the main pioneers in incorporating electronic elements into hardcore.......which is what all the metalcore kids who hate this thrive on.
they hate bc they can't play their music. This music a littttlleee more complicated than power strumming on one chord lol
that bass...... sexy
The jazz breakdown is fucking beautiful. The double bass is sexy as fuck. Arggh, I hope they come by Australia while they are doing their reunion. I remember Dennis said that he loved in Australia in an interview once so maybe...
wtf, they rocked!!
Saw them yesterday in stockholm, you won´t be dissapointed. Totally blown away..
Dude, they get a lot of credit. I guess you just know a bunch of ignorant people.
I don't understand how so many hardcore kids these days can hate this band. Really, if you hate them, it's most likely because you refuse to like any artists with more than 500 likes on facebook. Fuckin fashion hipsters contaminating our beautiful genre.
@TheGremdog excpet by the tit;e of their album! ahah they were the only punk band to successfully predict the immense impact they would have.
You are so right, they were the forefront and they knew, but what could they have done more than this
fucking great!
they're one of the most weird band i ever hear.. simply fucking awesome.
@Pogs4Fathersday it sold out in 10 mins. I remember seeing them on Long Island back in I think 97. insane show. tons of injuries. :)
Coachella 2012 has got more coming. But first, we're gonna get a little bit of a session going...
Terminal 5 April 23rd :)
groezrock 2012, fuck yes.
COACHELLA 2012
2000's post hardcore for sure is influenced by this
@malleusss555 If you remember Sweden joined the EU in 1995 with not much enthousiasm, and "the shape of punk to come" came out in 1998, this song is not so much anti-capitalist than nationalist. The assimilation of Europa and capitilism, wich is a worldwide phenomena, is just wrong.
Great band, great music, but their fight seems misplaced to me : nationalist veggies for animal welfare? Well...
Such an awesome, angry, intense, CREATIVE punk song. hat goes off.
@theGremdog im on of those young emo kids and my dads fried told me to look up refused. it had the same effect on me. but i like the old punk/ rock bands
@malleusss555 It's saying fuck government. Capitalism is the absence of government.
@TheGremdog Exactly, these guys are revolutionary! Yet hardly get a mention
@mrsjoesplashhh HC con le palle loro.
porque no hay ningun video en directo de la cancion BEAUTY??nunca la tocaron en directo??que alguien lo cuelgue porfavor!!!
