Refused - 366 Lyrics
Struggle with the current
Dragged down into the dark
No reward waiting
No salvation or ark
To protect the nation state
Sink like stones to the bottom
Not once a white man's fate
One final escape
Deported into the deep
366
Too many heroes for the hull to keep
Upon a heartless sea
Upon a heartless sea
Our willing sacrifice
That's someone's sister
That's someone's son
I've got a sister
I'm someone's son
I want a better life
And I'm not the only one
As the waves come crashing
With the rejected and poor
Bodies upon bodies
They shall overcome no more
So hail to the capital
That will set us free
Free to drown and free to die
To slave eternally
Upon a heartless sea
Where dreams come to die
Upon a heartless sea
Our willing sacrifice
That's someone's sister
That's someone's son
I've got a sister
I'm someone's son
I want a better life
And I'm not the only one
After forcing them to want our lives
We rip the honour from their sacrifice
We close our coffers and we close our eyes
Dragged down by the weight of freedom
Dragged down by the loss of hope

366 people drowned trying to get into Italy (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/italy/10355661/Italy-mourns-300-dead-in-Lampedusa-migrant-boat-tragedy.html ). They are just a number of deaths. This song is about that. It is what the European version of what we see in the U.S. as Central and South America. These people aren't just thugs. These people aren't just terrorist. They are just human like you and me. They are our brothers and sisters.
were all dressed up we have somewhere to go !
En fait, ça cartonne pas...
Il faut vraiment se décider? Ce n'est pas ce que c'était... mais ça cartonne... Bon...
I only just realized the reason the reason they chose the words "sister" and "son" is because of alliteration, both with each other and with someone (and possibly the s at the end of that's). Clever.

the guitar melody during the chorus reminds me of something from Decendents "Everything Sucks" record (also released on epitaph records). nice!. I don't understand why anyone would complain that these songs sound like TSOPTC. if they had reivented their sound (yet again) completely, I guarentee these same people would be salty as fuck!
channelling 'the shape of punk to come' big time in this track....aint got a problem with that
Could've sworn this was Every Time I Die's singer during this song.
@Jonny Murgatroyd Haha Right?!?! i thought the exact same thing...
Refused are fucking dead
Candidate for best Refused song?
@Christopher Xander really? not even in the top 30 lol
+ryan c That chorus is definitely one of the best. I was pretty hard on this album until I heard this chorus.
Servants of death. Those riffs.
Did anyone else think of tool on the second half of the song?
@elliKorg Shit for me it was the guitar intro sounded almost exactly like the intro for Rosetta Stoned!
Spot on
Best song on the new album even if it does sound like Shape of Punk To Come
This is tight. No unnecessary weirdness and acoustic guitars and over-reverbed clean leads and children choirs. Just sweet, sweet music.
@Kyle Wagoner sounds to me you don't like Refused then lol. Stay away from TSOPTC ...you know that underground hardcore/punk album that's revered by everyone as a classic. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!
Even made a Shape of Punk reference in my comment. All of the weirdness on said album was tasteful and sweet or at the very least didn't distract you from the music.
+Kyle Wagoner im not digging this at all..
basically ripped off summer holiday vs punk routine, listen to it and tell me they didnt use basically the exact same riff..
i miss the 90s.
The Shape Of Punk To Come 2
I believe in their BBC session interview, David Sandstrom says that "366" is a kind of throwback to old Refused. I love it. The chorus sounds like 60's garage punk.
@Springall In all truth though, yeah he is pretty much playing the same beat at the start as in "The Shape of Punk To Come".
@Springall dont get me wrong i love it regardless but... not only the same beat in places, but I was immediately distracted by the fact that the guitar line on 366 is basically an inverted TSOPTC guitar line..
+Jonathan Wendt That's the weird part of this album. A lot of the similarities sound like a band ripping off old Refused and a lot of the differences sound like aliens abducted them. I like this song but this album is tripping me out. I can't tell if I like it.
+rorschach775 It is very different. It's very bold though, I think that really helps get the message of the lyrics across. Also to Jonathan Wendt: Musically, the guitar riff is very similar, though I wouldn't blame the guitarist, I'd say that kind of beat demands a riff like that. I think the beat is so similar that there isn't many variations of a riff that could punctuate it so nicely. Also Kris Steen could have just purposely made it the same to really underline or "homage" to old Refused. I'd be okay with both stories, cus it's Awesome!
People don't really appreciate self-referential material in the rock'n'roll world but they should! When a band makes a song that is VERY similar to an old one, chances are they KNOW it already themselves for sure! And they like it enough to keep it! (Believe me I'm in a band and have dealt with this). It is usually to make a statement of some kind, and also it just paints the same picture or message but from a slightly different perspective, to give you more depth and context to the overall artistic work they are trying to get out into the world (and into your mind).
im not saying it was aliens.. but..
Fuuuuuuckyes
I love this song, and think that so far it may be the best one on the record. This or Dawkins Christ. But, it sounds SO much like The Shape of Punk to Come. They must realize this, right? I guess it's a nod to that song and album. Interesting.
Sounds like The Shape of Punk to Come meets Tool.
C'mon... are they trying too hard to sound like The Shape Of Punk To Come.
@Oskars Liukis I agree up to certain point in this song, it sounds like something we already heard on TSOPTC. It gets very good towards the middle/end. Though this song doesn't really fit with the bands new sound.
@Oskars Liukis I like that they revisited their old sound...
@Oskars Liukis HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
This after everyone complained about their new direction on the other songs and wanting them to be like TSOPTC.
@Oskars Liukis Trying too hard to sound like themselves? Ripping themselves off? I see a copyright suit...
Yeah, these posers are trying too hard to sound like Refused!
Wait a minute...
