Reed, Jimmy - You Don't Have To Go Lyrics

Ohh, baby, you don't have to go
Ohh, baby, you don't have to go
I'm gonna pack up darlin'
Down the road I go

Well now, I give you all my money
Then ya go downtown
And you get back in the evenin'
Told me, walked downtown

Ohh baby, you don't have to go
I'm gonna pack up darlin'
Down the road I go

Ohh baby, honey, what's wrong with you?
Ohh baby, honey, what's wrong with you?
Well, you don't treat me darlin' like you used to do

Saw Jimmy with John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters at Carr’s Beach Md in the 1960’s. Also saw him at. Armory in DC and became friends. He was having trouble with epileptic fits, but was the nicest man I ever met

Grew up in Whiting Indiana near Gary Indiana. VeeJay records owner Vivian Carter played the best. None better than Jimmy!

    r.... g....

Vivian and her husbands initials....Vee Jay. IIRC

  25. S.... K....

Don't really know if better recording quality would have really helped with this raw, direct sound!

    S.... K....

Recording quality? You do realize that this was recorded in 1954 (or possibly as late as 1959, since this sounds like the version that was on an album he released that year) don't you?

  26. L.... G....

Month & year I was born. I remembered my MoM playing this

  27. R.... B....

My fav Jimmy Reed song. 1st heard it about '55. Picked up a guitar been playing the blues ever since.

    R.... B....

I learned to play harp from listening to Jimmy in the mid 1950's.

    R.... B....

I had this on a double album. Am a singer and have been a blues singer ever since.

  28. D.... Z....

Dorothy Zentgraf...A great memory, my Dad was also in WW2. A great generation of people!

  29. D.... Z....

I picked up a Chicago trib. And read they had found Jimmy dead in his hotel room. He was in l.a to put on a show made.me sad back in the 70s love all his songs

    D.... Z....

  30. A.... M....

  31. D.... Z....

2018 in 1953 my mom would stop us working in cotton patch for 30 minutes in afternoon to go to the house and turn on radio to listen to a blues show all of us 5 kids loved the blues i am 81 now and jimmy reed is still wonderful

    D.... Z....

Love your anecdote Dorothy. I think listening to good music extends your life. Every evening I listen to a blues artist, a Motown artist, or just plain old R&B.

    D.... Z....

I imagine it was "the King Biscuit Flour Hour" out of Helena, AK.

    D.... Z....

George Willett...Yes, but not AK (that's Alaska) King Biscuit was Helena, AR (Arkansas) Still great music, wherever, lol.

    D.... Z....

Jimmy Reed from the BIG CITY OF CHINO,,☠️..

  33. J.... M....

    that was fuckin' awesome

  34. T.... S....

I think of Jimmy Reed the same way that I think of the GREAT Hank Williams. A natural song writer. These great songs were just flowin' out of him.

    T.... S....

The Shods...So very true. I like both blues and country and always thought Jimmy and Hank were somewhat alike.

    T.... S....

    @Lynn Graham
Listen carefully to Hank Williams sing "Move it on Over" and then many years later the first Rock N Roll Song, called Rock around the Clock by Bill Haley & the Comets had the Move it on Over Melody.

    T.... S....

@Donald Bailey bill Haley song is not the first rock in roll song you idiot

  55. C.... ....

    hey at 2:07 the leap year dance poster 25th Jan, Jimmy Reed performed on my birthday, well I wasn't yet born around 1964 that is :}

    C.... ....

I'm puzzled why a Leap Year dance would be in Jan.  Should be the end of Feb, no?

    C.... ....

it is odd, who knows maybe they were taking the mickey out of it and it had nothing to do with an actual leap year, funny maybe its just a bad mistake :)

    C.... ....

+CMONCMON007 Leap Year Dance -- Women can invite men to the dance, or invite them for a dance, or maybe even propose.
