Reed, Jimmy - Hush-Hush Lyrics

Hush, hush
Baby don't believe a word
Hush, hush
Honey don't believe a word
Well, you don't know nothin'
But believe everything you heard

Hush, hush
Yakky? yak' all the time
Hush, hush
Yakky? yak' all the time
Well, if you don't stop yakkin'
You're goin' to drive me out of my mind

Hush, hush

Didn't hear a word you said
Hush, hush
Didn't hear a word you said
If you don't stop talkin'
I'm gonna leave and I'm mighty 'fraid

Hush, hush
Hush, hush
Hush, hush
Hush, hush

If you know what real blues is, you gotta give Jimmy Reed props. If you know parry Katy and the likes of that style, I’m sure you can’t appreciate the finer things in life. But that all changes with time, experience and wisdom on the topic of the blues.

Started listening JR in 1958. Couldn't get enough of his music. I started playing guitar that same year and his and Bo Didley was all I played with some Chuck Berry thrown in for some up tempo stuff. JR has always been the way you spell DELTA BLUES and to me he always will be. Of course I like Howlin' Wolf, Bobby Blubland, Lightenin' Slim Big Bill Bronzy. Might say I am a Delta Blues Junkie.

    j.... c....

Same time, same influences for me. I started playing guitar and harp from a holder in the mid 50's.

  33. C.... H....

I can see who Elvis got some of his blues and rock music from and if it was not for these older black blues players like Jimmy reed and Chuck berry and others to long to name them all but we would not have had Elvis and others.

  34. S.... F....

Take these 6 thumbs downers - lock them in a soundproof cell for 48 hours with irremovable headphones plugged into Kenny G. They obviously got here by mistake - though why they stayed long enough to register their disapproval is a mystery. Jimmy Reed is the undisputed boss of the slow blues shuffle. You either love him or hate him but no-one ever came close on this kind of shit. As for comparisons with Little Walter - they are completely irrelevant! They were both masters in their own styles. Enjoy them both. Walter for his melodic inventiveness & fluidity & Jimmy for his sleazy laid back approach. I hate this "who was the best" shit. It's meaningless! Both were brilliant in their own styles. They each had their own voice!

    S.... F....

    Amen, Steve! You nailed it.

    S.... F....

Steve Fanger... I like the sleazy laid back approach best. Have listened and enjoyed Reed since the 50's!

    S.... F....

There are 32 thumbs down now....I would lock them forever to listen kenny g

    S.... F....

Najponk Jazz....So true. Jimmy Reed has always been the undisputed Boss Man of the Blues. The laid back slang and music could never be copied, although many tried.

    S.... F....

Mr. Jimmy Reed sho'- nuff was is and always will be the King of the slow blues shuffle!!!! Right-on Steve!!!!

  35. D.... R....

just sometimes, Jimmy Reed sang really well, and this is one of those times. But I never really rated him as a front-rank singer. For me he was at his best as a sideman when he was playing harp behind others a bit like Walter. But Reed was a better singer than Walter. However Walter was the better harmonica player!

    D.... R....

    Love it

    D.... R....

Jimmy had a very endearing voice - always. Walter was a fine blues singer too - entirely different vocally from Jimmy. They are apples and oranges. I don't think Muddy would ever admit either one sang well. Wonder what Muddy really thought about Wolf?

  36. j.... b....

    Yes !!!

  37. B.... S....

Really love his vocals on this song - then again, there are very few songs from him that I don't like. Really love how he sings "yakeeyak". I'll take Jimmy Reed over Albert King, any day!! <3

  38. R.... A....

The best of the best blues singer and guitarist ever. I grew up listening to Jimmy Reed and it brings back memories.
