Reed, Jimmy - Bright Lights Big City Lyrics

Bright lights, big city
They've gone to my baby's head
Bright lights, big city
They've gone to my baby's head
Don't wanna try to tell a woman
But she don't believe the words I said

Alright, pretty baby
Gonna need my help someday
Alright, pretty baby
Gonna need my help someday
You're gonna wish you haven't listened
To some of other things I said

Go ahead, pretty baby
Honey, just knock yourself out
Oh go ahead, pretty baby
Honey, just knock yourself out
I still love you baby
'Cause you don't know what it's all about

Bright lights, big cities
They went to my baby's head
Bright lights, big cities
They went to my baby's head
I hope you remember
Just some of those things I said

  1. B.... ....

This song is straight gangsta/ hanging out on the block drinking night train

Jimmy first heard his song on the radio in the meat market where was a butcher, when hearing it he took off his apron, tossed it down and headed out to be a star. Bet that never happens again. Really hard for great talent like his to be heard these days.
    Love all of his music.

Always been a big fan of Jimmy Reed. My bandmates and I listened to Jimmy Reed constantly. I remember a joke I made about his "one-armed drummer." Not true, but you could never prove it by the snare drum track. When another ultra-simple R&R tune showed up, "I guess the one-armed drummer got another gig."

This was a tune I'd get assigned to in bands. I grew up in Jacksonville, Florida with the dialect and could deliver it pretty well for a non-African-American.

    I feel it

Jimmy Reed brought blues in to the homes of white mainstream America. We'd be lost without it.

I just heard this on the Tom Petty station on SXM Radio. Tom considered it one of his influences. Great song!

Can you imagine what effect 1st hearing this great song had on an impressionable 12 yr. old girl in 1961, one who was raised on classical & show tunes?? i was Hooked!! (and thus primed for folk music and R&R.) Thank you Jesus, ha-ha!
