Reed, Jerry - You Know What Lyrics
Hey you know what girl
No what boy
Well I'm gonna tell it to ya like it is ooh
You'll find you’re destroyin' my mind
And woman I like it feelin' like this
No what boy
I think I'm losin' control of myself
Cause woman you make me all jumpy and shaky
And I never felt this for anybody else but you
Oh is that right
That's right honey
Well uh you know what boy
No what girl
I think I know what you’re talkin' about
And it grows and it grows till it’s gotta come out
Ha ha yeah that's it
Well uh you know what boy
No what girl
I got some confessin' to do
Cause I felt that very same way since the very first day
I ever laid my two eyes on you
So baby you and I oughta get it together and get together
Cause I've been wantin' you for so long and I've been waitin' to show it
We've wasted so much good lovin' time now that I know that you're all mine
Baby I'm gonna spend a lotta time and really make you know it
Cause baby you know what
Since we like the situation we got we oughta go ahead and tie the knot
Baby I kinda like it alot
Yes you and I oughta get it together and get together...
Hey baby you know what
No baby what
You ain't nothin' but a stone fox
Yeah ain't that the truth you lucky devil you
Ha ha ha yeah I know it my mama didn't raise no fool
What'd your mama raise then
Why I don’t know I guess she just raised a fox chaser
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

My college radio station used to play this song all the time, and I really came to like it. A lot. They always identified it as "Jerry Reed and Seidina," but I knew nothing about her. (Was she even identified publicly as his daughter in 1977? -- i.e., was she a known vocalist?) When I saw him on TV a few years later, he introduced her as his daughter. And that kind of made the song, with all its "tie the knot" and "we've wasted so much good lovin' time" business, rather... unseemly to me. I mean, of course performers are portraying characters when they sing, they're not literally experiencing what they sing about. But I can't recall any other parent-child duos singing a randy romantic song like this. Anyway, it hasn't stopped me liking the song!
What about Frank and Nancy Sinatra? ♪Saying something stupid like I love you......
Fair point. I'm trying to think how that was different for me at the time.... I guess that I KNEW their relationship in advance, which kind of defused it for me, plus the lyrics are that big more vague and swoon. Still, you're right.
@Lizluvlolz That is his eldest daughter Seidina singing with him :-)
Thanks for posting this song! I heard it a few times on the radio back in the 70's. I loved it. Since I discovered YouTube I have been looking for it. Thank You.
