Real Estate - Saturday Lyrics

I was born on a Saturday
What about you?
Well I know, I already know that you were too
I will go on a screened-in porch on a rainstorm
I won't hold fast, you're waiting past onto no form

A strong current will sweep you downstream
It would be best not to resist
The line you're hanging on is fraying
You may as well loosen your grip

But a stranger is living in your old house
What does when you were born still say about you?
It'd be best to jettison what you can't really do

A strong current will sweep you downstream
It would be best not to resist
The line you're hanging on is fraying
You may as well loosen your grip

Hmmm....is this like one of my favorite songs ever now? The lyrics are so poetic as well. Haven’t figured out exactly the meaning but the lines hit hard regardless 😅

  7. D.... I....

Oh my goooooood, this song really manages to play with your emotions ajajajjajajajaja literally, I first cried genuinely and then I was like LET'S GOOOOO 🌞

  8. N.... ....

Reminds me of the slow steps I took to finally move on, and join the others in the fast-paced rhythm of real life.

  9. L.... S....

i don't particularly like this song but the instrumental ending is SOOOO GOOD!

  10. K.... D....

I LOVE the intro SO much!!!! Makes my day every time!

    New jersey band.

  15. D.... ....

beginning sounds like smashing pumpkins, deep and chill

  16. j.... i....

this should be the google result for when you search "indie rock song with annoying bass line"

    j.... i....

Dude, the bass lines in Real Estate's music are lovely.

  17. Q.... O....

Im listening to Saturday on Friday.. And u know this

  22. S.... B....

love this song, the whole album really

  23. F.... ....

lol I was born on a saturday too

  24. M.... T....

Reminds me of Smiths except for the vocals. The guitar work is very reminiscent of Johnny Marr's.

    M.... T....

Morris The Cat my thoughts EXACTLY. Brilliant guitar work. I've never heard them talk about the smiths though. They say their main influence is 'The Feelies'

    M.... T....

Exactly my thought. The jangly Marr sound is here.

  25. l.... ....

    cars with a doors influence

  26. C.... M....

The piano in the beginning totally reminds me of Soldier by Neil Young.

  27. M.... ....

    this is magic 3:31 ♥

  28. D.... J....

    So good

  29. P.... P....

The tempo change is flawless, that somber mood the piano sets glides right beneath layers of bright guitars. Then martin tells us it's okay to give up fighting in that sweet voice of his. "you may as well loosen your grip." ...I think i will.

    P.... P....

No need to pucker up buddy.

  30. O.... ....

    I miss her

  31. B.... ....

I love the ending of this the entire song is great still

  32. F.... S....

    Excelente

  33. C.... F....

The beginning with the piano sounds like a song from the movie her

  34. K.... ....

This gave me the fleeting feeling of nostalgia and it hurt. To remember the good times before I had to grow up, such a fleeting feeling of childhood innocents

  35. R.... N....

The whole song is AMAZING, but the beginning and ending, in particular, is SOOO fucking good. The beginning starts with a nice piano melody. Where the ending is done with a sweet guitar solo (i think) that is so emotionally riveting. EASILY my favorite song of the album.

  36. C.... G....

    i feel happy rn m

  37. b.... ....

Wait, but I was born on a Thursday. Am I still allowed to listen to this song?

    my fav! super cool breakdown

  44. c.... ....

glad you posted this song. It really stuck out to me as well!

  45. r.... ....

excellent folk albums this year, Real Estate, Jesca Hoop, Fleet Foxes, Mount Eerie, etc.

    r.... ....

Yeah, I'm sure they're fans of/influenced by some folk music. The main sound they really remind me of is like the AM radio soft rock stuff that was big in the '70s/early '80s, as well as the twangy/jangly guitar sound often associated with The Byrds. I just consider them indie pop/rock, as bland and generic as that sounds. lol

    r.... ....

I hear a lot of The Feelies, Galaxie 500, early R.E.M, Dream Syndicate, Echo and the Bunnyman and Yo La Tengo in their sound. What annoys me (or comforts me - I can't decide which) is that every song has the same mid-tempo lope.

    r.... ....

I hate folk music. Real estate sounds nothing like it. Guitar kind of has a surf guitar sound

    r.... ....

    @Tuan Jim
If you think Real Estate is not folk, you need to listen to The Byrds. Real Estate is totally modern folk rock.

    r.... ....

    @Alex Delarge
I definitely disagree. I wouldn't classify them as that, let's just say that. Like I said, I'm sure there's a bit of a folk influence, but to me they are better described as a 21st-century continuation of poppy '70s soft rock. With a little more of a "hip" indie aspect thrown in.

  46. S.... ....

    done for now

  47. T.... B....

it's funny same sun and Saturday are my favorite songs off of the album. those are the only ones you uploaded, we think alike my friend.
