A truly great song from a master of his trade, I first heard Chris in the 70s on Radio Tees, I think the DJ was Mark Page who was mate of Chris' and have listened to his music just get better and better. I hope he keeps going for years more

Tees, Chris Rea is from middlesbrough. Newcastle built ships, middlesbrough made steel. Teesside Steel built the sydney harbour bridge.

I went to what was then called Teesside Poly in the early 80 ' s ...all the way from Cornwall ! I loved the place. At the time I was dating a 'Boro lass who had an aunt in Redcar. We used to travel on the train on the Saltburn line and I remember seeing the fiery monster that was the BSC Redcar plant every time we made the journey. I also became a Boro season ticket holder and whilst I've been back in Cornwall for many years that fire still burns.Teesside will rise again! Up the Boro !!!!!!

A Gateshead lad who happened to work alongside Chris cousin, The man's songs legendary and to write about the place you were born with such passion! fantastic. The shipyards all over England and Scotland that had the hearts ripped out of them by a narrow minded government, leaving proud, skilled, working men and women abandoned as they did with the Pits unforgettable. You so called leaders of this land could never write a song with such passion about the working class ! Remember it was those people who made Britain great once upon a time.

I once met a guy in the late seventies in Magaluf, Spain ,we danced the nights away, he was the image of a young Chris Rea with a mob of curly blonde hair , he was from Middles brough, could have been his brother ,this song reminds me of him, he was lovely!!!! Happy times.

I have to agree with you. I'm from Birmingham and it's a similar story down here. Good honest metal working and manufacturing areas just forgotten and replaced by call centres and the like. It's only now, in the midst of this banker spawned mess, that people are starting to realise how important manufacturing was. Oh well, you don't know what you've got till it's gone eh?

Outstanding song. This is music. The piano here absolutely rocks. I believe in steel. I believe in the Clyde. This is an inspiration for every Britain who can recall that the country was once great. Lets get back to making lots of stuff out of steel - but perhaps we can clean it up just a tad better than before. Salmon is still compatible with steel-making. Great job Chris Rea. You ARE the man.
