Ray Parker Jr. - Bad Boy Lyrics

I've been a Bad Boy
Now I wanna come back home
I've been a Bad Boy
Now I wanna come back home

I admit that I was messin' around
Playin' Macho Man and bein' cool
But all along you knew right from the start
She was just playin' me for a fool
Now that the love affair is over
Here I come runnin' to you
So go ahead girl and punish me
'cause I deserve to be hurt too

I've been a bad boy
Now I wanna come back home
(please let me in)

I've been a Bad Boy
If you let me come back home
I'll never do it again

Bad Boy
I'll do the dishes baby
Bad Boy
Now I got to be punished

Go ahead spank me, whoop me, let me come back home
I need to be punished
Spank me, whoop me, let me come back home
Break out the leather, baby
Spank me, whoop me, let me come back home

I was just so young
But I am a man now baby
I'm a whole lot more mature
Now I know how to treat a lady
Oh, we've been together for so long girl
Give me one more chance
Never again will I do wrong

I've been a bad boy
Now I wanna come back home
(please let me in)

I've been a bad boy
Now I wanna come back home
(please let me in)

Spank me, whoop me, let me come back home
I'll take out the trash
Spank me, whoop me, let me come back home
I'll take out the trash

See Ray was in love 'with the other woman'. Then he admits he messed up, and says he was a 'bad boy'. LOL. He'll do the dishes baby. ;) He'll take out the trash.

Probably the first time I have listened to this song since it came out in the 80s.... I loved this song, but it will forever be attached to a terrible memory for me of a classmate that got stabbed to death right in front of my elementary school. Two boys (Mo and Car) in my gym class got into a fight while we were all playing basketball. I think Mo cheated somehow and their team won and Car was upset about it so they got into it. They were both sent to the principal's office and Car was sent home for the rest of the day because he started the fight. Well, Car went home and came back with a knife and waited for Mo and stabbed him in the chest. The rest of us had long finished gym class and were back in our main room doing whatever schoolwork we were doing. And now it was close to the end of the day and we were all getting ready to go. And I will never forget this - I happened to be walking back to my seat and, by chance, looked out the window. It was a winter day and lots of snow on the ground and I saw someone laying in the snow across the street from the school. I thought it might be like a bum or somebody had fallen down or fallen asleep in the snow and I just walked out of my classroom and across the street and went over to the person and knelt down. I could see a trail of red lines in the snow and I looked at the face of the person and saw that it was Mo - he was kind of just laying there, gasping a little. And I somehow knew he was dying. I remember wanting to ask him what it was feeling like. Then someone grabbed me and pulled me away really hard - it was my teacher. I guess he looked out the window and saw me and rushed down. He took off his coat and put it over Mo - either to keep him warm or to cover him up so the other kids wouldn't be rushing over once the bell rang. They called the ambulance and took Mo away. We learned that he died - that the knife had penetrated deep enough to sever a piece of his heart. After we found out he died, I remember I was at home and turned on the radio - and this song came on. It made me utterly sad because Mo is all I could think about - I wondering just how long he had been laying there on the cold ground in the snow. If he was afraid. If he had tried to run or scream. I wondered why nobody had seen what was happening. How something like that could happen while the school was still full of teachers and students. I wondered if he could have been saved if someone had gotten to him sooner. If I had looked out the window sooner. And this song made we wonder if, somehow, he'd been a "bad boy" for cheating in a stupid gym class and if this was some kind of punishment for it. Kids minds work in weird ways trying to process death and grief, I guess. So this song's original meaning was lost on me in the wake of that tragedy and I couldn't really listen to it the same anymore.

But I was looking up old songs today - going down memory lane, and just decided to look this up. To see if I could listen to it after all those decades. And that day still came to mind. Mo still came to mind. The sadness is STILL there - even after all this time. This was the first incident of its kind at my school and it made the Principal change the entire way they deal with kids who were involved in a fight. In hindsight, I wonder why they sent Car home and not Mo ,too. If they had sent them both home or called their parents maybe Car could have been talked down from his anger and made to see that it's just a silly game - cheating or not, nothing real or serious was at stake. And then maybe both their lives wouldn't have been ruined that day. One - because he died over a little school gym basketball game. The other because he became a murderer over they same. They were both only like 12-13 yrs old.
