Ray Davies - Missing Persons Lyrics
Have you seen this face?
Does it ring a bell?
Does it strike a chord somewhere in your mind?
And there's a big reward
If you help us solve this crime
Have you seen this face?
Dig deep in your mind
Has anybody seen that little girl of mine?
She was always a rover
But I'm afraid to say she's strayed
Too far this time
Now I'm sitting at home, staring at the wall
Waiting for the missing person to call
Waiting to confirm my darkest fears
She's a missing person, I wish I could see
All of the places she might be
Maybe I stopped her from being free
Maybe there was something missing in me
Wherever she is, I hope she's doing fine
But I wish that she would phone or drop us a line
Till then I've got nothing to ease my mind
And I'm thinking about her all the time

Have you seen this face?
Does it ring a bell?
Does it strike a chord somewhere in your mind?
And there's a big reward,
If you help us solve this crime,
And if you recognize this face, dial nine nine nine.
Have you seen this face?
Dig deep in your mind.
Has anybody seen that little girl of mine?
She was always a rover,
But I'm afraid to say she's strayed
Too far this time.
Now I'm sitting at home, staring at the wall.
Waiting for the missing person to call.
Waiting for the message I'm dreading to hear.
Waiting to confirm my darkest fears.
She's a missing person, I wish I could see
All of the places she might be.
Maybe I stopped her from being free.
Maybe there was something missing in me.
Wherever she is, I hope she's doing fine,

From Ray's play 'Return To Waterloo' as were 'Sold Me Out' and 'Going Solo'.
I remember seeing them preform this in concert, at madison square garden back in the 80's had me all choked up.. very touching song.
The Kinks always seemed to have some 'message' in their songs.
Truly one of the greatest rock bands..
I always thought this was about Chrissie Hynde but like every one of his songs the personal becomes the general/ universal. Simply beautiful.
wba I totally agree with you
i miss timber
Well Kinks are simply more intersting than the Beatles in my opinion
What a beautiful voice Ray has.
@MrglsJon
I was struck by that line, too. Missing person, and something "missing" in me. Ray Davies often juxtaposes subtle differences in connotation...like in Animal Farm, where animals are playing and people are real people, not just playing. Brilliant is quite an apt word.
"Maybe there was something missing in me"....fucking brilliant.
these fuckin artists.....a masterpiece ...if you were on the well ,..they have potential trip .....this album assured thier place in top ten of all time
Heard this song in the 80s as part of ,possibly the most depressing TV project I have ever seen - "Return to Waterloo" by Ray Davis.. BUT I loved every lump in the throat minute. Ray Davis unsurpassed Quintessential Englishman.
I so loved this song when the album was new, thanks for posting it.
@kinksdead Beautiful, though. You must admit. :)

wow wow wow I searched for this song for years, I had the LP but it was stolen like 20 years ago
