Ray Davies - All She Wrote Lyrics
All she wrote was a goodbye letter
"It's over for us, to tell you the truth
I've met this person in a disco
He's really special, reminds me of you
Single bars and gay cafes
With pickup lines to impress young schoolgirls
And big Australian barmaids"
That's all she wrote
On the back of that old brown envelope
A few killer lines to get my goat
That's all she wrote
All she wrote on that goodbye letter
And my new man is a vegetarian
He laughs a lot, not like you"
Picked up one of her old love letters
"You are such a caring man"
Such a change from that cold, bitter scam
Of what I was, and what I am
That's all she wrote
On the back of an old brown envelope
A few killer lines to get my goat
That's all she wrote
"Did you ever really love me?
Did you ever really care?
Now you're free to live your fantasy
And I'm not there
To cramp your style and blow your cover
Now you're free to take your lover
To titty bars and low life clubs"
All she wrote is a goodbye letter
"It's over for us, to tell you the truth
I've met this person in a disco
He's really special, reminds me of you
"So don't pretend to be a new man
Be chauvinistic, that's your way
Now you're free to make your play
For that big Australian barmaid
(Big Australian barmaid)
Big Australian barmaid"
That's all she wrote
On the back of that old brown envelope
A few killer lines in that suicide note
That's all she wrote

Ray Davies All She Wrote Comments
Ray Davies is not just the quintessential British songwriter.
Dank je wel voor deze mooie muziek, Gerard! Nooit kon er nog een Ray Davies zijn, maar zeker moet er een jongen of meisje die iets mooi om te zeggen zal hebben!
Funny that the way he phrases it, has melodies very close to Mark Lanegan who covered " Nothin' In The World Can Stop Me Worryin' Bout That Girl ". O know that he's a godfather figura for Lanegan but I was listening to it randomly at first thought of the Screaming Trees Singer...Great surprise
Ray may be the planets last great songwriter. Thanks Madeleine for the update on the new music.
What a wonderful song.
Yes! God Save the Kinks!
Update! Ray Davies's brand new solo LP (dropping April 2017) has The Jayhawks as his band! OMG. How fantastic is that???? The JAYHAWKS with RAY!!! Whooo hoo!

Women: They "love" you one day, hate you the next day. What happened?
PS: Who's playing that fab slidey guitar? Damn....used to have this LP. I think the kids pinched it. (Ray is cool no matter how old or young you are)
According to the booklet accompanying the cd:
Recorded at Konk Studios, 19th March 2002

@Gerard van Calcar Thanks for that. I guess I'll go buy another copy of this CD. It's very good.
Absolutely love this mysterious song. Ray has been, and always will be #1 best songwriter in the UK. (Macca #2)
What a great song! I was driving my Dad's car and heard it on his mix tape. Really love it
You know, today we told each other, we have to ask Gerard to upload this song on Youtube, because it was gone on Youtube and we really love this song! You can read our minds ;)
