Ray Charles - Eleanor Rigby Lyrics

Eleanor Rigby picks up the rice in the church where a wedding has been
Lives in a dream
Waits at the window, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door
Who is it for?

All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?

Father McKenzie writing the words of a sermon that no one will hear
No one comes near.
Look at him working. Darning his socks in the night when there's nobody there
What does he care?

All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?

Eleanor Rigby died in the church and was buried along with her name
Nobody came
Father McKenzie wiping the dirt from his hands as he walks from the grave
No one was saved

All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely peopl
Where do they all belong

  1. T.... ....

You wouldn't think Eleanor Rigby could be turned into a soul song, but it is actually quite beautiful. Probably because of Ray Charles talent.

Eleanor Rigby turned to blues - thank you Ray

  3. S.... M....

  7. W.... J....

    Quando a cópia é melhor que o original 😍😍😍

  23. S.... C....

    Maravilhoso!

  24. F.... S....

    Awesome

  25. M.... S....

It takes guts to cover a song by the Beatles. Some might ask, Why even bother? Definitive artistic genius is hard to top. Ray's version is brilliant. Lennon said he dug this version, too.

  26. L.... M....

    Why would anyone buy this?

  27. L.... M....

    Karaoke.

  28. D.... v....

I am proud, I saw him live ,1971,strong voice

  37. D.... ....

I didn't know I needed this until I found it. But what a cover. I love Ray's interpretation of it.

  38. P.... L....

Yeah...this is fine.! But...that song...that Albright needs to left alone. The same way the classic BLUES re-recorded BY THE BEATLES should've BEEN LEFT ALONE. Ohhh THE COPY RIGHTS AS Well... so... the minute MJ purchased the copy rights to your shit... Sir Paul has an issue...?! Interesting...indeed.

  39. w.... ....

I had an old 45 of this once. When played it at 33 RPM, it sounded like Isaac Hayes. When I play this on here at 0.75x speed, it sounds better

  40. G.... R....

This is a really, really, good version of this tune.

  41. F.... K....

Great vocal supporters, in this piece. From the Beatle version, Paul did all the vocals, without John and George, like he did Yesterday, another great version Ray Charles did too.

  42. M.... S....

I'd like to see someone take this version of "Rigby" and superimpose it onto the footage from "Yellow Submarine".. With some modifications I think it would work..

  43. G.... ....

This is by far the best version of this song. Better than the original even.

  44. S.... R....

    Far better than the original.

  45. f.... w....

Heart-wrenching rendition, capturing the width, breadth, and depth, of the lonely people;Superb!

  46. Z.... F....

I've heard the Beatles version thousands of times.. but this is the version I grew up listening to😁😁 Thanks Dad

  47. S.... C....

I miss you mommy I wish I could've felt your love for me when you were here! Remember I was planned to be here!I was your only son!

  48. a.... ....

He made a much better fist of this song than Aretha Franklin.

  49. P.... V....

    I love it

  50. D.... ....

Who the heck said thumbs down?!?!?!!?!

  51. J.... E....

    Simplesmente Ray.!!!!!!!?

  52. J.... ....

    What a damn voice

  53. J.... E....

    Inimitável é eterno!!!

  54. T.... A....

Ray gives this a heartbeat and soul. Wow. Remind me of the Detroit riots and 1968 in general.

  55. T.... C....

    Gives me chills

  56. F.... G....

Ah, look at all the lonely people
Ah, look at all the lonely people

  57. M.... V....

You know you've it made when you have back up singers and a string section.
Great cover of a great song by a great artist.

  58. D.... D....

Notoriously absent from this thread is the name . . . Aretha.

  59. H.... G....

When the back up singers come in on the people... gives me chills every time!

  60. r.... ....

Very soulful and beautiful.....Not as wonderfully haunting as the original but still great!

  61. S.... S....

Oh my goodness. Ray sang this like it was His. Amazing

  62. k.... h....

Never knew Ray covered this song. Still i prefer Aretha's version , but this is hot 2.

  63. P.... M....

    So Cool! ......

  64. M.... ....

    Happy Birthday Ray Charles 🎈
With my Edit of "Shake Your Tail Feather": https://youtu.be/Q_7WeSjbziY ❗️

  65. A.... S....

I take it Quentin Tarantino hasn't heard this yet.

    A.... S....

    A. Smith Would be perfect for a montage for a 1970's crime thriller

    A.... S....

    A. Smith you're right you have a good ear! Quentin Tarantino would use this song for one of his movies

  66. M.... M....

The world got lonelier without you Mr. Ray.

  67. P.... -....

    Ever Faboulous!

  68. s.... ....

  69. F.... ....

    Forever a legend!

  70. f.... w....

    haunting.

  71. S.... H....

When you find out that your favorite beatles songs are Rary Charles's. Though I think while Charles was a great composer, the beatles had a better feeling for performing it.

    S.... H....

Paul McCartney wrote this song in 1966. Rigby is a Lancashire surname, Paul McCartney is Catholic (hence 'Father'), Ray Charles covered this 2 years later.

  72. F.... ....

I like Ray Charles but this don't cut it..

  73. D.... A....

my father loved the song so did I

  74. m.... o....

    Genius.......The best version......

  75. T.... ....

I have always thought that Beatles songs sounded better when sung by someone else, but my God. Brother Ray put so much soul in this that i can't listen to it without crying

    T.... ....

Todd Christy wow I thought I was the only one that cried to music because of its power and its energy in the Bliss of it the meaning just the whole sound makes you cry

  76. W.... ....

as a real beatles fan i have to say that this is honestly the better version!

    W.... ....

Not even close. But probably the best cover of a Beatles song.

  77. R.... A....

    Brilliant.

  78. S.... 1....

Ray owns it. A total groove and a gas...

  79. t.... ....

This is like a musical Resse's Peanut Butter Cup:
"Two Great Things That Taste Great Together"
    Brother Ray and the Beatles

    t.... ....

    amen i love it

  80. s.... ....

This is the BEST cover of this great Beatles classic. Ray Charles put "Soul"into it.& the background vocals by the ladies really punctuate each verse. I will forever be reminded of the lazy days of my youth in August 1968 when this song played over the air waves of the local AM radio stations in Washington, D.C. It was a much simpler time. Now as a grandfather the lyrics take on more meaning as I look back wistfully on those days. Thanks to Paul McCartney & the Beatles for creating this great work of art & Thank You Ray Charles for your Soulful arrangement. R.I.P. John, George, & Ray.

    s.... ....

I disagree...I think this is just fine.

    s.... ....

Thats A Strawman M8 : There is no such thing as "too much Soul".

    s.... ....

While I love this version of the song I think The 4 tops version may be even better. Levi Stubbs killed this song.

    s.... ....

@Andrijan Kovacic I concur with you amigo.

    s.... ....

    @littlebitofeveything Right on.

  81. R.... M....

    LEGEND, astonishing voice

  82. G.... S....

I like this version better than the original

  83. m.... e....

me pase la mili cantando esta canción en las guardias

  84. C.... F....

Seems a song made for him...Remember what Otis Redding said about his Dock of the Bay, when Aretha Franklin sang it?...She stole my song, he said.
The same thing here the Beatles I think should have said.

    C.... F....

Claudio Fantuzzi It was Respect that she covered. One more giant gone from us. RIP Queen Aretha.

    C.... F....

The song you're thinking of is Respect, not Sitting On the Dock of the Bay.

  85. P.... ....

He sings it in the manner of spirituals. Quite different from "The Beatles", however very good. Every good artist finds something new in the good music and discovers new and interesting facets making a masterpiece living longer and longer.

  86. p.... ....

Absolutely brilliant. We miss you Ray, it's a desert out here without you.

  87. G.... P....

This is one of the best Beatles covers I have ever heard. It has this massive sound that even the full string section couldn't give the original. And Ray's vocal melody is so understated. What a great vocalist...

    G.... P....

It's awesome but remember the original was just about a small quartet

  88. R.... M....

Paul said he likes this cover!

  89. N.... S....

Super version by raycharles :) ....you have a fantastic collection of beatles covers ...really enjoying them :) :)

  90. R.... G....

Please could climb all the disk (CD/LP) THANKS!!!

  91. w.... t....

    y love !!!!

  92. D.... S....

Interesting that Paul McCartney acknowledges this as one of his favorite covers. He also loved Roy Redmond's version of Good Day, Sunshine and Stevie Wonder's, We Can Work It Out.

  93. H.... v....

Great backing, great vocals too !

    H.... v....
