Randy Travis - My Daddy Never Was Lyrics
My boss will tell you that I've been to work all week on time
That I ain't had no liquor on my breathe
Ain't no kinda' secret, I've been known to take a drink
And it's made me do some things that I regret
And one night she called it quits and called a cab
She left her clothes out on the clothes line
And the dishes in the sink
So I guess she knows that she ain't coming back
Well I just want to see my kids
I just want to hold my girls
Heaven knows I ain't got much of nothing else in this ole world
I just want to be around enough to know that they've been loved
I just want to be their daddy, my daddy never was
Now lately she's been knowin' this old boy she met in church
And I can't say she's wrong for wanting more
I gave him the right to tell my wife that I can't come around
The night I knocked a hole in her front door
And Loretta tooks my keys and she made me wait outside
But she didn't call the law she called a cab
And as I pulled away I saw something in her eyes
So I reckon that she knows I ain't so bad
I just want to see my kids
I just want to hold my girls
Heaven knows I ain't got much of nothing else in this ole world
I just want to be around enough to know that they've been loved
I just want to be their daddy, my daddy never was
Well my boss will tell you that I've been to work all week on time
And I ain't had no liquor on my breathe

You know i cried when i heard this song i reminded me of my dad hes still here on earth and ive got to say with gods help im trying to forgive him and it reminds me of my first husband my kids dad im no longer with him but he hit me and i stayed with him almost 12 years before i finally left him my kids are grown now ive really came to love God here lately and it has helped me face my fears i think the reason i married someone like that is because i seen my dad hit my mom alot growing up my kids seen that with me im 43 now getting ready to get married for the third time and yes he is a Christian man and i love him dearly and my first husband he has straightened his life up and is living for the lord im still learning so please keep me in your prayers and yes. I have a story to tell the world if you want to hear it message me
@Stephanie Martin Very Moving Story, glad that you found peace in your life.
I am sorry for the way you were treated in your first marriage. I hate to hear about guys who do that. Glad that you have found God. There is a special power to forgiveness; it is very liberating. However, still easier said than done. I grew up with two stepfathers who hated me and beat in me. I am now 54; I am working n forgiving them both. My ex wife was verbally abusive as well. I hope you can find it to forgive him.
Written by the amazing Tony Lane. This one can bring the tears...
