Randy Travis - He Walked On Water Lyrics

He wore starched white shirts buttoned at the neck,
and he'd sit in the shade and watch the chickens peck.
And his teeth were gone, but what the heck,
I thought that he walked on water.

He said he was a cowboy when he was young.
He could handle a rope and he was good with a gun.
And my mama's daddy was his oldest son,--
and I thought that he walked on water.

[CHORUS]
If the story's told, only heaven knows.
But his hat seemed to me like an old halo.
And although his wings, they were never seen.
I thought that he walked on water.

Then he tied a cord to the end of a mop,
and said, "Son, here's a pony, keep her at a trot."
And I'd ride in circles while he laughed alot.
Then I'd flop down beside him.

And he was ninety years old in sixty-three
and I loved him and he loved me.
And lord, I cried the day he died,

'cause I thought that he walked on water.

[CHORUS]

I have lost so many people these last few years! I know they will be waiting for us in Heaven! My Dad was one of 13 kids, all of them are aging! Each years apart! Out of 6 Uncles, have one left! Life hurts, but we will all be together again!

  9. J.... H....

This song always reminds me of my grandfather. He was one of the greatest men I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. He taught me the value of hard work. But he also taught me the value of love too. By the time his grandchildren had come around his rough exterior had smoothed out a lot. I love you and miss you Paw Paw.

No one is probably going to read this
I’m just gonna write it anyway because I feel at least one person will.
Im a singer songwriter called Michael Softley
I am a try hard chasing a dream
I have my first few views up and could use help getting subs and likes
If anyone who reads this could press the “thumbs up” other people will see it
Just a simple button press could make my dreams come true
    Thank you much love.

I had been in Vietnam for just a few weeks when my Grandpa passed. Never will forget them saying that I could not go home because he was not immediate family, couldn't even make a phone call back then. Loved Ol Pop's.

    P.... B....

I'm so sorry. They did walk on water when my grandpa Holt passed my school called me to make me go back. Government I guess.

This song reminds me of my Gram Porter. She rolled her long white hair all around her head like a halo. I loved her dearly. She would wait for me every day after school to do her chores. I would go to the little store across from her home and buy hamburger for her cat and anything else she needed.. I loved her and she loved me too. I went to see her when she was dying. I had to wait in a long line. I remember stepping in the line and waiting my turn. My Aunt Goldie had to push me because I didnt think I could move. It was my turn. and I looked at her laying there and I said Gram I love you. She said I love you too. thats all I said and she said. I turned around and walked out of that room knowing that she loved me.

  34. I.... ....

Every kid should have an inspiration like that. The one that builds his dreams and the coach he/she looks up to as a mentor to do that..! I was one of them. And I wound up real good. Brings a rainfall to my eye..! Not even wanna go there. I WOULD DEFINITELY AGREE, that this is what is country... not the bullshit they sing now.

Randy drank himself into a stroke. Its something that a lot of us have an issue with. The day that he did this we all cried and wished we could just take it back.

  67. R.... S....

It s about his Great-Grandpa. Nobody seems to get that

  68. R.... B....

I miss hearing Randy's voice! Sure wish that he can come back to us! I have loved this song forever!

  69. R.... A....

When this song came out I.was on tour with a rock band, just happened to be in Toronto at CPI., for a meeting. That night Alan Jackson, and Randy were at the CNE., an outside shed venue. We were invited each of us sorta of chuckled at each other, we went to be kind. This song, stopped me dead in my tracks, I can remember exactly where I was, what I was wearing the approximate time and weather. From a rocker music DOES NOT get any better than this

  70. S.... B....

I love Randy's voice. He's is one of the very best and I pray that he will be restored from the stroke. I would love to hear him singing again.

+Liverpool Lady -'Hi! I am just hearing this song for the first time. Although this song can reflect on various father figures, is it not the about boy's Great-grandfather? Because the lyric says, "And my mama's daddy was his oldest son". I know maybe it does not really matter much, but also, it does! Thank you***' -j
