Randy Newman - Davy The Fat Boy Lyrics
I've been his friend since we were little babies
I was a comfort to his mother and a pal to his dad
Before they passed away they said,
"Please take care of our Davy
You may be the only friend he ever will have"
Davy the fat boy, Davy the fat boy
Isn't he round? Isn't he round?
What do he weigh, folks?
Can you guess what he weighs?
It's only a quarter
Win a teddy bear for the girlfriend
Or something for the wife
You got to let this fat boy in your life
I think we can persuade him to do
Give me half a chance
I just know you'll like my fat boy's dance
Davy the fat boy, Davy the fat boy
Isn't he
Isn't he round?

Randy Newman Davy The Fat Boy Comments
my favorite on the album... similar cinematic feel to "Vine Street", which he wrote for Van Dyke Parks. I love it!
This song, which concluded Newman's first album, is a fine example (among many on the album) of how Newman first approached his music through the exploration of unconventional song forms through psychedelia, similar to Van Dyke Parks. You can hear Newman's trademark boogie woogie, but it's blended into orchestration and unusual structure. I hope more people will hear this tune. It hasn't been posted long, but I was surprised to be the first to remark on it.
