Ramos, Anthony - When The Bell Tolls Lyrics

I am absolutely in love with this song! I can not stop playing this song! I have this song on repeat for wherever I go

My theory:
The way this song was written was in four main stages.
One: (0:00 - 3:53) Character X (presumably Ramos, could be a made-up character) is pleading with their god and reminiscing on their life. There is breathing, which continually gets slower throughout the song. X remembers their grandmother before she died, and thinks about the granddaughter they will never get to meet. They have evidently lived long enough to come to terms with death in a mature way, even though they admit, "I'm not ready". There is a reoccurring idea of a river in heaven. They say "I heard there's a river of gold that flows through a crowd of angels
to a city that knows no pain, no fear, or anger". They are hoping and praying that they are able to go to heaven and experience this idea. X accepts that they can fight it, but death is imminent.


Two: (3.54 - 4:32) Base drop: I picture this as a flashback sequence of X's life in their last few seconds. Whatever made their life memorable, important, or life-altering events that occurred. Weddings, births, deaths, tragedies, joys. The idea, "did I do enough in my life to make me worthy of this idea of heaven?"


Three: (4:33 - 4:39) This is where I picture X's passing. Their "flashback" ends and they are immersed in a foggy world between realities. This is their moment of truth.


Four: (4:34 - 5:07) There is a sort of "emerging" into a place with birdsong. This can be easily missed. There are muffled voices and an eerie sounding theme happening with the music style, nearly silence occurring for the last few seconds of the song. Suddenly, there's breathing again. Then, the sound of rushing water. (a river of gold?...)

OK he is just astounding. I love his voice so much.

Also I know I'm not the only one that thought "this is John Laurens singing this."

Yes before anyone hates on me I *know* that this is very much ANTHONY. And he us astonishing.
No "he's an individual person not just a character" lectures please. Because y'all know exactly what I mean.
What I mean is this song is sooooo soooo in keeping with Laurens *as a character* that it *could have been written for the character* in the same way I hear George Blagden singing Hallelujah and think of Athelstan. OK.

I just can see him or someone being submerged and then coming up into this beautiful place and ughhh that's such a pretty visual I looove this bUT ALSO PLEASE APPRECIATE THE *B R E A T H* WITH ME OKAY AT 4:05 / 4:06 (highkey just time stamping that for myself go ahead sue me) LIKE VOCAL ISOLATION AND WHEN THINGS JUST _BREAK_ AND CATCH YOU OFF GUARD AND LISTENING TO THAT WITH HEADPHONES *inhales* _WOOO_ LIKE NO HOW THAT IS AMAZING THIS SONG IS INDESCRIBABLE, FROM PRODUCTION TO EXQUISITE VOCALS FROM THE KING HIMSELF TO THE BRUTALLY RAW LYRICS THAT TEAR MY HEART TO BITS.

I love this so much and I hate it for making me want to cry

I love this song. It talks about having a close relationship with God, and having the desire to leave this broken world and go to Heaven. But it also talks about the conflicting desire of not wanting to die yet because we still have so much we want to do, see, & accomplish on this Earth. And ultimately realizing it's God who calls all the shots, so we just got to do our very best every single day and have deep faith, because we never will know exactly when the final bell of our life will toll.
