Rammstein - Du Hast (English Version) Lyrics

You
You hate
You hate me
You hate me to say
You hate me to say
And I did not obey

Will you until death does sever
Be upright to her forever

NEVER!

Will you 'til death be her rider
Her lover too, to stay inside her

NEVER!

Rammstein Du Hast (English Version) Comments
  1. R.... ....

I prefer german, i dont care if i dont understand it.

  2. P.... D....

Both. Versions are good but the Herman version is definitely better

  3. S.... S....

This Version Is On The Till Album Cover Of Sehnsucht.

  4. J.... D....

I don't entirely dislike this version (maybe a little), but the original is better by far. The lyrics to this version seem like they lose something in translation.

  5. E.... F....

    Fuck English Language

  6. P.... ....

Most of this is wrong. I take German and 99% if this video in wrong. Research before u use Google translate

    P.... ....

RandomAndFandom Du hast means "You have" first red flag lmao

    P.... ....

    Pookey
And Du hasst is you hate. Till's just playing off how a slight difference in pronunciation can change the meaning, at the beginning, anyway

    P.... ....

RandomAndFandom there's two Du hast meaning. Du hasst is you hate. Du hast is you have

    P.... ....

    Pookey
I know, that's what I was just referring to

    P.... ....

RandomAndFandom k. As long as we’re on the same page

  7. t.... b....

I'm not German, but it's plain to me the fact that these guys only play with our heads, the German and original version is named du hast, which means you have me, but they never say hast, instead, they say hasst, which means hate, pay close attention

    t.... b....

That was the twist in the original. Hasst and hast are essentially the same when it comes to pronunciation. So with this, they had to make a choice on which meaning of the phrase they wanted.

  8. C.... C....

Boah ich bekomm Ohrenkrebs.....was soll denn das sein?

  9. M.... M....

This doesn't sound right in English.
    Deutsch all the way.

  10. Z.... ....

its not you hate me its you have me

  11. R.... ....

I feel like if they wanted to keep the flow of the song they could have replaced "Never" with "Nay".

  12. R.... R....

du hast =you have ==this song is a fraud who ever did it was dumb ass hell they destroyed this song

  13. R.... F....

I'm seeing all these things about them being confused about the lyrics. The verb Haben means to have and Hassen means to hate. So "Du hast" means "you have" and "Du hasst" means "You hate". Okay simple. It's definelty the verb haben (not just because it's written in the title) but because of the next line "Du hast mich gefragt und ich habe nichts gesagt" "you asked me and I said nothing"

Also why in the English does till sing "you hate" because when the album sehnsucht was released there was German and English lyrics on the lyric sheet and Till just wanted to fuck with the non German speakers and said it meant "you hate" and not "you have". This could also be due to when you put a verb into past tense you either have sein or haben and when you translate it into English you ignore the verb like "Du hast mich gefragt" "you asked me" or literal translation "you have me asked". So yeah... I rambled on way too much

  14. K.... M....

Their keyboard player is like my hero. And I dont even know his name

    K.... M....

Kevin Myers Christian Lorenz, he goes by flake, and Doktor Lorenz 😂

  15. K.... M....

You have me.. you want me to say. That's just my highschool German.

  16. S.... C....

I thought Nein meant None on German. Not Never

    S.... C....

    It means No

  17. J.... W....

Du hast means to have so this names no sense

    J.... W....

Hast means have, hasst means hate. The original played on the slight difference in pronunciation, so it doesn't work out well in English.

  18. K.... S....

First time I've heard this! Must confess I literally squealed with excitement.. ah the Rammstein affect.

English is my first language since coming up from _____ _______ German my third, but I still have to think about the complexity and sub-text of their lyrics. I suspect in a couple of examples only those born speaking German can ever fully grasp the true meaning in their lyrics.. Rammstein are the musical equivalent of Da Vinci.. genius beyond comprehension.

As with 'mein teil' the literal translation of teil is part.. but It's slang for dick. The literal translation for hast is help, the literal translation for hasst is hate.. but Till likes mischief in semantics.

But.. music/art IS subjective. However you deem to interpret their lyrics.. just enjoy

    K.... S....

    Kitty Stevens
Literal translation for hast is have, not help

  19. K.... D....

    Disgusting voice...

  20. C.... ....

I'm the only one who, although I listen to the lyrics in English, my head still catches the old German song?

  21. b.... x....

The song is awful in English, but the guitar riffs still kick ass!

  22. D.... G....

Damm I like the German version better

  23. 1.... ....

These guys lit up my childhood, never forget watching this music video on mtv

  24. A.... H....

    “Destroy Ammo Baron’s army!” -Shantae

  25. S.... O....

I prefer the lyrics I can't understand, thank you

  26. J.... F....

    Not on spotify

    J.... F....

    Justin Fencsak
That's because it was just a bonus track for Sehnsucht, i don't think many of them have been rereleased in a while

  27. A.... T....

I think this version is pretty cool too 😊🤷‍♀️

    A.... T....

    You stupid

  28. R.... C....

    its john figure it out

  29. R.... C....

    im really 21

  30. M.... O....

    2:19 WHAAAAT?!

    M.... O....

    Внезапно..

  31. .... ....

    *sips unhear juice* anyone want?

    .... ....

this is so cursed i swear

  32. K.... ....

They had to have had the part where he said never wrong because in the original he said nein which means no in german

  33. J.... M....

i wish i didn't hear this, please make me forget.

  34. T.... 3....

Translation is never perfect but I think they screwed the translation up more than usual or Rammstein is trolling us

    T.... 3....

All of Lindemann's newer English music that is in English does not make it seem like he has a problem speaking English so I'd assume this was intentional. Of course this was earlier on so they might not have known english as well at the time

  35. M.... A....

    Great job

  36. L.... ....

    Why is Palpatine singing?

    L.... ....

Even Sith lords need to let loose every now and then.

    L.... ....

    unlimited, pooOooOooweeeEeEeeer

  37. L.... ....

    69th comment.

  38. A.... G....

Well this song just became more darker for me hahaha awesome!

  39. M.... B....

Considering "nien" is no in german and not "never"

    M.... B....

till just like to piss everyone and that's included translator

  40. J.... M....

    HATE ME

  41. c.... b....

this song is like 90% funnier in english. it doesn't sound right

    c.... b....

Agreed, the original version is better..

    c.... b....

    "never"

    c.... b....

I think that's because (as being German myself) german sounds so much more aggresive even you're saying the nicest things.

    c.... b....

Well i know hast and hasst makes it confusing. You have and you hate.

  42. L.... ....

I love all the language majors in here that don't realize they use the old German translations not the current German translations and there is a huge difference between old and new German. Smdh. Also pretty sure the band released this so kinda think they might know what the English translation would be. You also need to consider the fact that there are many languages that don't have an English translation for the word. Or phrase in which they go with the closest thing in context that makes sense. Because context can change everything, look at French or Spanish.

    L.... ....

There are sooo many German words that don’t have English words. I mean for chrissake I own a book full of them! 😂

  43. R.... O....

    this is cursed

  44. S.... D....

    Now in Spanish version lol

    S.... D....

    Could you imagine AHAHAHAHA

    S.... D....

    jesus eueuueueueue

  45. T.... ....

This is the same song that was on their album Sehnsucht. I still have it and Engel's translation, as well as the full album, on the hard drive of my Xbox 360.

    Good ole days.

  46. A.... Q....

english version sucks somuch lol german version is much better cause i didn't know what it meant lol

    A.... Q....

    Lmfao 😂🤣😂🤣

  47. B.... C....

Not digging the translation. My German is not that great, but to me the main part of the song is:
    You
    You have
    You have me
    You have asked me
You have asked me and I have not answered.

    B.... C....

"du hast" can be heard as "du hasst" which means "you hate", but later part means "you have asked..."

    B.... C....

I'm pretty sure the title does not say Du Hasst

    B.... C....

Mathew Brown title may be first part of question, not first words in verses.

    B.... C....

@Mathew Brown I wasn't translating verbatim, but thanks.

    B.... C....

@Mathew Brown Yes, but that's kind of the whole joke...

  48. j.... e....

    German version better 💯%

    j.... e....

    @Kha- Beleh
This is not a cover, this is Rammstein.

    j.... e....

Yossi (sorry thats how i like to say yes)

    j.... e....

justin snow this is not accurate du hast mich means you got mean not you hate me

  49. R.... K....

I don't think that this version was sang by the same band

    R.... K....

    is the same band,

    R.... K....

It's an official cover, it was released in the US version of the Sehnsucht album

  50. G.... G....

    Nowadays I understand

  51. D.... C....

After listening to this in English, I wish I didn't.

    D.... C....

    @Catherine It's not his vocals I don't like, I actually love his vocals. It's the lyrics I don't like/prefer in German.

    D.... C....

    😂😂

    D.... C....

    this doesn't exist, it's a dream

    D.... C....

@Daniel Coniff the song sounds better in German

  52. A.... L....

I think they changed some of the lyrics up to sound less boring since the actual translation would have no rhythm

    A.... L....

Adrian Ladda exactly. It’s humorous though seeing Americans fight with Germans about the translation, I’m American and have a few German friends and have asked them and they said they Americans took a English remake and ran with it as if it was an exact translate over. Not realizing the rhythm and all that is completely changed with English words lol.

“yOuu doNT kNoWw yoUr OwN LanGUaGe”

    A.... L....

Gh0stVirus Gaming I am American and I do not know much Deutsche besides the basics but when it comes to music I try to work out the translation myself for example hast=have hasst=hate

    A.... L....

Adrian Ladda I wasn’t specifically directing that at you lol just over all scrolling through comments and seeing people from American arguing with people from German - it’s like wtf 😂

    A.... L....

Gh0stVirus Gaming I understand it wasn’t directed towards me I just like to re assure my self on the internet for some reason

  53. E.... M....

I remember this from a Naruto Fanflash

  54. n.... ....

Parts of this do not play at all and go into an infinite loading phase....skip those parts and it plays......fuck this type of censorship.

  55. C.... 1....

    Prefiero la versión original

    C.... 1....

YES my Spanish 1 skills can read this

  56. J.... C....

You hate me to say and I did not obey!

  57. e.... p....

1.) This is 100% legit. they produced this English version not long after the album blew up in the USA
2.) The original album is written in "old" German. When it came out, I had a customer who was an older German Lady, like in her late 70s. I asked her if she could translate the lyrics for me (back then, many artists put lyrics in the CD insert) . She gasped when she started reading the CD insert, "This is old German. I have not seen this in a very long time." She was very happy to see a modern thing in "old German." She proceeded to tell me there had been a lot of change after WW2.

Yes, I know this doesn't jive with what Wikipedia says, but that old lady's facial expression and emotional response weren't lying.

    e.... p....

the extended it’s you have me - but I’m fairly sure they changed up the lyrics for the English version cause saying you, you have me really doesn’t sound pleasant. Idk though all my native German friends says it’s you have, and du hast means you have.

    e.... p....

@Gh0stVirus Gaming Anybody who thinks it's "you have" is NOT German. Period. Deutschland Uber Alles!!!

    e.... p....

    Vampirebear13 "Hast" = have

    "Hasst" = Hate.

The song is "Du HAST" not "Du Hasst". Whoever says "You Have" is technically correct, however the song itself is much darker and most definitely about hate instead.

    e.... p....

@Zombie My friend, I come from a German family & grew up in a Lutheran church where my grandfather was pastor & preached in German. Anyone who IS German or speaks German with any regularity, knows the song says "hate" not "have". Have a Blessed weekend :-)

    e.... p....

Vampirebear13 lmao they were saying it’s old German

  58. T.... F....

    This is completely incorrect

    T.... F....

    its actually sung by rammstein

    T.... F....

    Y’all RESEARCH BEFORE COMMENTING lol

For the English version it wasn’t a direct remake. As translating it over doesn’t have the same rhythm and feel - so they changed the lyrics around.

    T.... F....

@Gh0stVirus Gaming Your argument is that Hate and Have don't have the same rhythm?
    That the best you got?

  59. J.... ....

    MGTOW from the mid 90's

    J.... ....

Bro I thought the same thing a while back this should be the mgtow theme song for real. I'm a MGTOW so we can play this song as our battle song 😂

    J.... ....

J Bad Rammstein would be pretty disgusted with their music being linked to mgtow

    J.... ....

It’s not what’s meant, but what is heard that conveys meaning. Time of Your Life was a very popular song to have played at weddings. However, it’s only really appropriate at weddings if your MGTOW.

  60. T.... K....

I'm confused...I'm not sure if I like this version or not...

    T.... K....

    Agreed this makes no sense

    T.... K....

@Danika Poulsen Translations of lyrics from Old German/Deutsche will always seem strange to foreign audiences. Rest assured in German it makes complete sense.

    T.... K....

Original is better than this shit... German slang is the best...

    T.... K....

The Kid Named Adrian L. Well it’s not accurate

  61. V.... -....

Damn didn't knew a english version also existed. but I thought it's the translation is "you have me" 🤔 but here it's "you hate me" I'm confused now

    V.... -....

The real meaning of Du Hast and with the subject of the music is "You have me" but with the lyrics, some changes in the lyrics, it's seems more half troll and creativity.

    V.... -....

    Du hast mich gefragt.

    "You have asked me"
    Not.
    You hate asked me.

    There.

Also, Nein, as we all know, means "No."
Never is "Nie" and if you want to emphasize never, "Noch nie" would go well.

    V.... -....

V - Trigger it is you have, they say you hate me on purpose to be funny, 😂

    V.... -....

    @Legoivan44321 no

    V.... -....

pretty sure it's kind of a pun with du hast and du hasst

  62. J.... A....

I'am just going to ask one question... why?

    J.... A....

we didn't have google translate back in the day or anything close to google for that matter

    J.... A....

Carl Creighton But German to English and vice versa dictionaries existed.

  63. l.... f....

    You
    You hate
    You hate me
    You hate me
    You hate me to say
    You hate me to say
You hate me to say and I did not obey

    l.... f....

    and the rest?

  64. S.... B....

    Never!!🤘

  65. L.... B....

technically they say Hasst now and then so Have and hate are in there but they did this to piss off the translators

    L.... B....

yeah eh its the concept of doing this

  66. D.... M....

    Bad ass German band
