Rafferty, Gerry - Hearts Run Dry Lyrics

Hearts run dry, something happens when two hearts run dry
That you can't explain, no you don't know why, oh no oh no
Love grows cold, meanwhile life goes on and the young grow old
And you've seen too many dreams unfold, oh yeah when hearts run dry.

The setting sun, fades away just like a love that's gone
You remember when two hearts were one, oh yeah, oh yeah
And in the night, you still want someone to hold you tight
But your medicine just won't come right, oh no, when hearts run dry.

I can't love you the way that I used to do, but don't tell me I'm using you, losing you
Through empty days and lonely nights, it's memorys that keep me here with you
There's no getting near to you, and I still don't know what to do, leaving you, loving you.

Each day's the same, you decide to play the waiting game
So you live a lie, but you feel no shame, oh no, oh no.

I can't love you the way that I used to do, but don't tell me I'm using you, losing you
Through empty days and lonely nights, it's memorys that keep me here with you
There's no getting near to you, but I still don't know what to do, leaving you, loving you.

Hearts run dry, something happens when two hearts run dry
That you can't explain, no you don't know why, oh no oh no
Love grows cold, meanwhile life goes on and the young grow old
And you've seen too many dreams unfold, oh yeah when hearts run dry.

whoa-oh, when hearts run dry
whoa-oh, when hearts run dry

  21. Benoit Vanhees

I won't go into the discussion who's the best singer ever, in the whole milkyway. However it is clear that some people's voices are simply perfect for a specific genre. Ian Gillan or Dio for hardrock, Sinatra and Dean Martin among others for the crooners-segment etc. Rafferty definetely had the perfect voice to sing delicously melancholic songs....

    Ted Tyszka

Gerry Rafferty is like Roy Orbison with a smoother satiny sheen.

  22. Fabrice Grard

    A kind of perfection

  23. Rick Johnson

This Man (MASTER ARTIST) is irreplaceable! No one can take his place. He had the PERFECT VOICE!

  40. James McLoughlin

Have listened to Gerry since he sang with Billy Connolly in the Humblebums ! The album this comes from is North and South, which in my opinion is as good as the classic City to City and Night Owl classics ! Fabulous talent.,,,

    Andy Rarity

grew up just accros the clyde from renfrew/paisley. and i was just an ear when i was down in a market in london and i heard can i have money back followed whith mary skifington. i had already heard city to city. but by god this man had no end to his talents and i had the pleasure of meeting him at the glasgow royal concert hall in 1992. thank you so much MR. rafferty. p.s. baker street was just the start. r.i.p. gerry and thanks a million

  50. David Kieran

Great tune, I have to say ive found a new love for Gerry's music i heard "Night Owl" the other day aswell. What a singer What a song writer!

  51. Les C

How this Album was not number 1 I will never know, Love his music more than any other. A true genius.
    RIP Gerry

  52. A. de Bruin

All about ending love, breaking up, playing roles, going on and stopping. One big dilemma as it was with his long life love. (so I think) Hearts run dry as a beautiful title.

  53. Clarityandharmony

I think that word you used - "immortality" - is the KEY to so much of his lyrical content, just as the word "eternity" also would apply, I'm sure.
At least, that's what I especially 'get' out of the lyrics to quite a lot of his songs.

  54. pearlphase

i never tire of this genius.

  55. MrDave4358

gerry was a master musician, this lesser known song is up there with his best.pure magic.
