Rafferty, Gerry - A Change Of Heart Lyrics

One life, and you're on your own, and you don't ever find a way back home
One road and you travel alone, you keep on even when your hope is gone
Now somethin' touches you with a different rhythm
But all your life, you've been playin'a part
And nothin's gonna make you have a change of heart.

Change of heart. Change of heart.
Change of heart. Change of heart.

A worried mind, and a heart full of pain, you drag it around just like a ball and chain
It doesn't matter where you go, there's no runnin' away from everything you know
The writing's on the wall, but still you won't surrender
You won't give up, you won't make a start
And nothin's gonna make you have a change of heart.

Change of heart. Change of heart.
Change of heart. Change of heart.

Rain clouds blowin' away, taking you back again to yesterday
Bad moon on the rise, now you're runnin' out of alibis
But somethin' touches you, with a different rhythm
All your life, you've been playin'a part
And nothin's gonna make you have a change of heart.

[fade]
Change of heart. Change of heart.
Don't let this cold world tear you apart.

His best recording in the 80's.

  3. W.... B....

    Ruhe in Frieden Gerry Rafferty

  4. 4.... ....

    Big Base!

  5. D.... C....

Good track. Aside from Can I Have My My Money Back?, City To City and his Best of One More Dream his solo back catalogue has been sadly neglected. I mean with regards to remastering.

  6. h.... ....

By the way have any of you heard Billy Connoly talking on his 'Live in Dublin' dvd/cd about Mr. Rafferty and his telephone prank? It cracks me up! :-))

The man was pure bloody genius!
My brother gave me 'Sleepwalking' thirty odd years ago and...well its been with me ever since. I have 'City to City' & 'Night Owl' as well but this track is my favourite!!
The man IS pure bloddy genius! :-)

  8. s.... g....

    Love it! Very Rafferty/Moody Blues-ish!

I am born in 1945 and with the music of the Beatles and Gerry Rafferty grown up. It gets a fright me if the good so early must go! I hope he is there where he can be happy!

    b.... ....

Yes may his sweet soul rest in peace.

From what I've read, it seems Gerry never did find the change of heart he sang so beautifully about. His early life was painful, and that might be part of the reason. To quote a song by a different songwriter, "The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return." When will we ever learn?

  11. m.... ....

Yesterday I heard for the first time one of the most beautifull songs...
    "The Right Moment"
    A masterpiece

Peace be with you Gerry. You had a huge influence on me and are one of my favorite musicians. I started writing songs because of people like you. Change of Heart rocks especially the drums. They kick ass. Like you did. Thanks from a true fan.

@sssnsule I had never heard of Yaounde before. I looked it up on the net and it looks beautiful. I like the song you refer to, Steamboat Row, since I was a young teen when it became popular here, 1974, I think. Also, I use to be a coal miner in my country 20 years ago. I have a theory that you need a little celtic blood in your veins to really appreciate this style of music; my maternal grandfather gave that to me. I had a friend from Equador who despised it. Thank you for responding!

@sssnsule Until you responded to my post, I never heard of Yaounde. I looked it up on the internet and It looks like a beautiful place. I like the song because I used to be a coal miner in my country 20 years ago, and I guess you need to have a bit of celtic blood to really appreciate the music style. My grandfather gave that to me and I love the music. I had a friend from Equador who hated it a great deal. It is just a theory of mine about the blood. Thanks for responding!

Another brilliant song from a brilliant songwriter! It is now my favorite, thank you so much for posting!

  18. M.... ....

I had gotten this album at a church sale for $1 in 1983, brand new. I lost it years ago, along with my entire collection of vinyl. I have to get a new copy!

  19. C.... H....

Sleepwalking is amazing but I am having a hard time replacing my aged copies of this amazing work. Thanks to cheap stereo equipment the ones I paid for died - anyone know if on my trip to UK I will have better luck? Or is it out of print :-(

  20. T.... L....

Pray for Gerry. The bottle revisits.Pray hard.
    Tom

  21. P.... ....

    Unknown but excellent !! Phalaïna

  22. j.... ....

The intro to this song is so cool, especially when it goes into that fanfreakin' tastic drum/guitar section just before Gerry starts to sing! Another quality song from the master singer and songwriter Gerry Rafferty.

  23. m.... ....

    The intro is sweet.
    Like a tropical 80s dream.......
Didn't the world seem more colored and musical then? Guess its just nostalgia.
    I like this song

  24. F.... ....

This reminds me of the band Asia from the early 80's....or is it the other way around?

  25. M.... ....

sleepwalking is his best album. my only knock is its a bit short.

  26. B.... ....

I was lucky enough to find a copy of this album on CD from a hole in the wall record store owner who was a fan. I remember going on pilgrimage trips to record conventions looking for Gerry's records. Now with the internet, I can find anything I want from the comfort of my home.

  27. t.... d....

    pure genius

  28. E.... ....

dont recall much about this album being released in the states, but after I wore out my copy of City to City, I grabbed this album as soon as it hit the stores.
thanks for uploading Hedgehog--I must admit I haven't heard these classic tunes in years. If only I had treasured my album collection as it should have been.

  29. n.... ....

A beautiful tribute to the genius of Gerry Rafferty. His music, voice and lyrics add up to combine more than their sum - pure magic.

  30. A.... R....

It definitely didn't Dave. And it didn't get much promotion here either as I recall!

  31. A.... R....

Great stuff Dave, thanks for posting. I always thought that this would have been a huge hit in The States had it ever been released there................one of his best.
