Radiohead - Street Spirit (Fade Out) Lyrics

Rows of houses, all bearing down on me
I can feel their blue hands touching me
All these things into position
All these things we'll one day swallow whole

And fade out again and fade out

This machine will, will not communicate
These thoughts and the strain I am under
Be a world child, form a circle
Before we all go under

And fade out again and fade out again

Cracked eggs, dead birds
Scream as they fight for life
I can feel death, can see its beady eyes
All these things into position
All these things we'll one day swallow whole

And fade out again and fade out again

Immerse your soul in love
Immerse your soul in love

Radiohead Street Spirit (Fade Out) Comments
  1. noel0702

Everytime I listened to this song reminds me one of my friend that had passed away in an accident when he was out with his friends that he knew from the street. Couldn't forget how exciting he was telling me all about Radiohead the first time we saw each other. And now he is one of those street spirits. Radiohead songs are for the street kids. People are attached to the song that are similar to their experiences aren't we all?

Depending on how you look at it - this song can be beautiful and hopeful. I get what the song is about but we can only wallow in negativity for so long before the pain is meaningless. Maybe Thom only saw half of the song given to him, as he thinks many fans wouldn’t get this meaning. I think he summed it up well about the dog being put to sleep. We have all or will go through the most horrible, gut wrenching moments of life. But there is such beauty in suffering meaningfully and seeing what is on the other side of that pain. Deriving lessons and growing from pain, helping others and making as much of a heaven out of Hell as we can. Isn’t that beautiful? Or am I just an idiot. I don’t care much about that but I do care that people get depressed when listening to such a gorgeous song. We don’t need to get more depressed than nature makes us. Hang in there and just enjoy the melody (only of course if it makes you depressed)
Spreading depression is about as useful as a the plague but far less metal. Radiohead made a masterpiece - I am happy enough of that.

Anyways I am done pissing in the wind

    Mau Tsukuda

Yeah, I was just never a huge Radiohead fan growing up. I didn't have a problem with them, I did like the popular hits that I would hear on the radio or whatever, but I was more into Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Pantera, etc. Heavier stuff. I'm glad I finally found this song, though.

  47. Elena Markina

  79. alexandra

i just cry. you can't explain emotions brought forth by this song, by this lyrics meaning, by radiohead genuineness. i can't deal emotionally with this song.

  80. Dominika Miz

It's 3.08 am in my country right now.
I can't believe this song even exists. I'm so terrified that it'll take over me one day.
It's indeed staring in the devil's eyes, as Thom put it. Once for a while I go back here to stare in his eyes and let myself be gone for 4 minutes. Then, I'm living again.

  84. Greg Epps

I feel the same way about "Lucky". Some of Radiohead's songs are built to make you cry. I listen to them when I need that cathartic release. But it's not just sadness. There's beauty there too.

  85. kimsmells1

Inspired by the Nigerian novel "the famished road". A great read.

  86. acendales

Se les olvidó "talk show host"....

  87. K Williams

This song is sad and beautiful at the same time. It illustrates how fragile life is and when our time is up, it's up. If there's any message to take from this song, it's to live your life to its full potential, don't question what is wrong and whether your response can raise eyebrows, just be true to yourself and life, live it how you want to and don't let anyone tell you otherwise, after we do live on borrowed time.
