Radiohead - Spectre Lyrics

I'm lost, I'm a ghost
Dispossessed, taken host
My hunger burns a bullet hole
A spectre of my mortal soul
These rumours and suspicion
Anger is a poison
The only truth that I could see
Is when you put your lips to me
Futures tricked by the past
Spectre, how he laughs

Fear puts a spell on us
Always second-guessing love
My hunger burns a bullet hole
A spectre of my mortal soul
The only truth that I can see
Spectre has come for me

Radiohead Spectre Comments
  1. M.... R....

soooo much better than the Sam Smith shite!!!! and i am not a radiohead fan

  2. A.... ....

Chills man, wow, this is Bond-personified, I've been watching Bond films since 1983, and this fits the mood entirely.

  3. S.... T....

it would’ve been cooler if they had used this, and if the movie hadn’t sucked and been completely joyless.

  4. k.... a....

    What could've been

  5. B.... B....

The opening visual sequence alone is pretty dark itself.
Radiohead's version absolutely compliment the visuals as the new bond theme.

  6. J.... ....

Perfect. I really liked the intro but hated Sams song. This is ideal

  7. M.... ....

Doesn't feel fitting to a James Bond movie imo.

  8. R.... S....

I love Sam Smith's, but this is great as well.

  9. B.... ....

Sam Smith himself would surely agree that this fits better.

  10. S.... ....

    Brilliant. Kudos to you.

  11. P.... F....

Just come across this, it’s brilliant. I like Writing’s on the Wall but this is much more in keeping with the classic Bond themes.

  12. A.... V....

How make your audience fall a sleep 101.

  13. G.... M....

This is the best video clip that this song could have

  14. x.... ....

I don't like the drums in the first third.

  15. M.... M....

Dark not sensual does not go with the sinister and sexy visuals that's why it wasn't picked.

Still good though. They should be used for the next film instead of blech...Billie Eilish...

    M.... M....

As I understand it, the titles are made to fit the song and not the other way around.

  16. S.... J....

things that actually matter: Thom did the soundtrack for Suspiria and it¨fucking bangs! Better film too

  17. n.... ....

    "Too dark", eh? 😕

  18. H.... ....

That finale where the strings roar into action at the end from 4:46 gives me goosebumps. Chillingly beautiful. Put a smile to my face seeing the Radiohead credit in that same moment. Top work.

  19. K.... H....

    We got Billie Eilish now......

  20. C.... I....

I see why this wasn't used. It's shite.

  21. e.... o....

perfect for the film .. both are crap

  22. K.... S....

    Great Song!!!

  23. D.... M....

Too dark for Bond. But perfect for Batman.

  24. D.... R....

i like this way more than the sam smith one but it does feel too dark for the movie, seeing as spectre was kinds silly and outlandish at some points

  25. R.... S....

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, I'm not a fan of Radiohead or Sam Smith, but I really love the one with Sam Smith, it really flow better in editing and motion graphics, my opinion I'm just a producer.

  26. K.... ....

    This movie was honestly trash

  27. P.... S....

during Writings on the wall sometimes I felt like it's a disney song, and a crying-teen song during the chorus...

  28. C.... f....

Even with this song, the visuals felt like a step down from Skyfall. The tentacles are off-putting, I think.

  29. C.... P....

The orchestrations from "The Writings On The Wall" were great. But the song itself left me wanting better. And would you look at that, THIS is better. Another Bond opening theme travesty. Like when Shirley Bassey's "No Good About Goodbye" was scrapped for that Jack White & Alicia Keys monstrosity opening to Quantum Of Solace. Or KD Lang's "Surrender" wasn't used for Tomorrow Never Dies for Sheryl Crow's droning theme. Hopefully they hit a home run with whomever sings the No Time To Die theme.

    C.... P....

No Good About Goodbye was never submitted or considered for the Quantum of Solace title song. It is a common myth. Arnold simply reused the six-note motif from the score in the Bassey song because he liked it (perhaps as an in-joke, since Bassey's song uses the word 'solace' in the lyrics).

  30. B.... B....

Simply too good a song for the worst Bond film ever

  31. H.... 0....

Song is good, but it doesn't feel fit for the movie at all.

  32. M.... S....

How was the best bond theme ever hidden? Please explain!!@

  33. D.... E....

I find it funny that the best part of spectre the movie was a song that they idiotically declined.

  34. R.... i....

The producers blew history's first and only chance to have Radiohead make a song for a James Bond movie. Something like that will never happen again. Just let that sink in.

  35. G.... ....

Complaining that the song is too dark is stupid.

This adds in emotion, dark emotion. It makes me feel like the song is saying, “you should be scared for what you’re about to watch.”

  36. K.... D....

Miles beyond Sam Smith's version. Overrated tripe

  37. C.... 1....

Both this and Supremacy from Muse should have been Bond Themes. So much lost potential.

  38. C.... L....

Too much for this crap movie but too simple for Radiohead to sell it.

  39. E.... P....

SO MUCH BETTER. MGM fucked up with this one.

  40. A.... S....

    I can’t stop watching this

  41. L.... L....

Radiohead makes movie music. Not radio music. It is true art.

  42. M.... ....

I would watch the movie if this was the official opening.

  43. c.... m....

    That's better.

  44. P.... P....

How come, i've never heard this ?

🦑 This could have been a great theme, but what was chosen was great too.

Complaining about it being too dark 🤨 Yes it's dark, but James Bond NEEDS DARKNESS and to be MUCH more "real", serious and stop being an "action/comedy".

    Say "AMEN"

  45. M.... W....

I don't even remember this movie, and I remember all his others pretty vividly.

  46. G.... R....

Holy shit goosebumps and tingles it’s beautiful

  47. d.... ....

the movie didn’t deserve this song anyway. think of how beautiful it is and how subpar the movie was

  48. J.... ....

The two works merge so beautifully it feels as though I'm on a soft dose of LSD while watching it. You don't even think, it's just an experience...

Also, to those that proclaim it's better that it wasn't used - One, it was a snub to Radiohead, for Sam Smith of all corn ball artists. That's just not kosher. Secondly, sure, it's not the greatest of the Craig era, but it's a nice bit of Bond lore. I can recall a few opening scores that were either above or below the film for which it was produced. Forget the entire film. The 'Bond Theme' is all about the opening sequence, and this would have been masterful. Welp, at least it makes for a great piece of Bond fan knowledge.

EDIT: To CnG FIlms, Thanks a million. You've made a wonderful marriage!

  49. e.... h....

To be realistic, everyone here’s talking about how Radiohead were disrespected in having their work rejected. Radiohead should never have agreed to do the song in the first place for a film series so drawn out, contrived , boring and dull.

  50. A.... B....

Superb work! I too play Radiohead's 'Spectre' during the title credits. I don't care if it takes me time to pause, play the music in the background, and resume the movie because the end result is absolutely worth it. Thom Yorke's vocals, his lyrics, and the low yet pulsating piano riff of this song is way better than Sam Smith's "Writing on The Wall". Kudos GnC 👌
P.S.- I really like how you credited the song to Radiohead in the end instead of Sam Smith 😄. Radiohead got the raw deal from Sony on this one.

  51. C.... H....

this opening song would have given the movie a better set up and emotional feel but instead, it was "too dark" so they went with Sam Smith and that's how Spectre went.

  52. S.... P....

WOW, Radiohead doing the music would have been amazing but in hindsight the movie was garbage so Radiohead's genius is intact!!!

  53. S.... L....

Everything about this fits perfectly with the intro — the menace, the drama, the dark quality to the strings and the lyrics. The visuals show skulls, chopped up and fragmented faces and a giant octopus coiling around everything. But yeah, the songs too dark.

    Epically missed opportunity.

  54. C.... F....

i still dont think it works tbh. not because of the song, the song is a massive improvement, the opening sequence just LOOKS like shit. no one could fix this not sam smith (though i dislike his music) not radiohead not anyone.good editing tho.

  55. M.... M....

This is one of the great movie tragedies of our time

  56. V.... D....

this is so beautiful i can't stop listening to this.

  57. C.... F....

I read somewhere that man of war was going to be a bond song, but was ultimately rejected because it wasnt written specifically for the score

    C.... F....

Most likely a rumor. Eon would never use a pre-existing song for Bond.

  58. S.... F....

Who the f is Samy smith ? Radiohead are global. خسارة ما ختاروش هاد الاغنية.

  59. V.... D....

This would have been the most original and haunting theme the series would have had yet. wasted opportunity

  60. T.... S....

To be fair Radiohead and Bond have a lot in common.
    Years ago they were great.
Now they’re just embarrassing and need putting out of their misery.

  61. D.... S....

Except for Skyfall by Adele, most of the Bond songs for the last 30 years have not been memorable.

  62. M.... K....

The way it should have been 🙏

  63. J.... N....

I’ve heard this song on the radio just some time after I saw this video. I was so proud knowing the history behind it while I was on a date with a person who loved them dearly.

  64. N.... L....

I do feel they shouldve included both for the BD and 4K releases and let fans choose which one they like more

  65. p.... e....

    WEEEEY NO

  66. e.... s....

Should use this for no time to die

  67. W.... ....

Sam Smith's voice is too piercing, I actually can't listen to his music for long, regardless of my opinion of it.

  68. A.... C....

Gosh, it's soooo infintely better than the Sam Smith song ! I want a new editing of the movie with this video as the true opening credits

  69. J.... J....

Much better than sam shits song

  70. I.... L....

This is infinitely better than the Sam Smith theme. They honestly made a mistake not using this, the amount of legends who wrote music for bond films has gone drastically down lately. Now we have artists who will be forget in 20 years like Adelle and Sam Smith. Radiohead will have a place on history FOREVER, and this film could have joined them there, and be remembered for having an original Radiohead price wrote just for it

  71. s.... h....

But the intro doesn’t deserve the music

  72. K.... H....

Another great and moody song by Radiohead
It's good but it's not a Bond song.
At first I wasn't a fan of the Sam Smith one but it has grown on me, it's not the best or even in my top 10 bit it's miles better tha Die Another Day or god help us...Another Way to Die.
But we have No Time to Die coming next year so you never know!

  73. J.... M....

Why oh why didnt they use this, fuck sam smith

  74. B.... T....

    Well, Ralph was right.

  75. A.... .....

These credits always had too much of a twntacle hentai vibe for mw to take them seriously XD

  76. J.... K....

This is one of the greatest OST i ever heard, what the f...ks wrong with this movie director??? This movie is even darker than song.

  77. H.... ....

I think my friend hyped this song up a bit too much. I was humming Writing's on the Wall, he recommended this to me saying it was amazing. Personally, never listened to Radiohead (might queue them up for a listen at work though) but while I enjoyed the song (and definitely thought it fit with the visuals of the film's opening credits) I do prefer the Writing on the Wall. Sam Smith's falsetto isn't the best but overall that's just where my preference lies right now. Who knows, maybe after a few more listens I'll come to enjoy Spectre as much.

  78. A.... ....

This song ever so fits well with the dark foreboding overtones of the movie, and also adds to the foreshadowing eluded to in the movie trailer with part of the theme from On Her Majesty's Secret Service. which is a hint to Madeline Swans fate in the next movie. That poppy sappy garbage from Sam Smith takes much of that away. its Obvious Radiohead knows Ian Flemming's James Bond. This song greatly improves the movie for me.

  79. E.... P....

I'm ripping the movie to an MP4 file and editing this version into the movie - this is my intro to the movie.

  80. L.... B....

2:52 - Japan entered the chat

  81. A.... W....

This song is light years ahead of the Smith song in terms of quality. The movie producers were on crack when they rejected this song.
This song fits better with the visuals

  82. A.... L....

So much better than the Sam Smith song!

  83. m.... s....

    both songs were whiny garbage

  84. M.... ....

Is it too dark because the villain was ridiculous?

  85. f.... p....

song outclasses the film by a million miles.

  86. P.... ....

Anytime I watch Spectre I watch the intro, Skip Sam Shit then come here to watch this theme and go back to the movie. Improves the experience more than you’d think.

  87. G.... ....

It's always interesting to see videos like this that show 'what if?', so Great work on that front :) - However, let me say this - Looking at the comments (despite the reaction of 'it's too dark' from the film's producers - which I don't think it is), I'll have to agree to disagree with popular opinion. Radiohead's song is nothing special - for one thing, could barely hear the lyrics that many others were trying to say was 'deep', is it supposed to be a hearing test rather than entertainment? :/ - It also had none of the Bond-like creshendo to it and the lack of life & (hearable) lyrics to it, makes it sound like I'm watching ITV's Nightscreen or a perfume commercial than the start of an action-packed suspense-draped Bond film. Sorry, but as difficult a personality as Sam Smith has become, I think 'Writing's On The Wall' was not only a brilliant choice (if the franchise had to end, think SPECTRE should have been it - the song made it feel like we were going to see him face the final boss), but also echoed the wit shared previously between Bond & Q in the Pierce Brosnan era when testing that Pen Grenade in Goldeneye: "Don't say it... ;) " "*thinks* The Writing's On The Wall? :) " "Along with the rest of him XD " :D

  88. S.... ....

I used to like the film - it’s not too bad as Bond movies go. Then I saw this version. They chose Sam Smith, Sam bloody Smith over this. They must be deranged. Bond songs don’t get any better than this,.

  89. S.... S....

The true is "The movie didn't fit for this song"

  90. R.... B....

Too Dark ? Looks like thats what they were going for. Too bad, looks like a perfect and better fit than what they went with.

  91. M.... B....

Why? Why? Why? That song works beautifully over that title sequence. It might have moved the needle as far as the poor reception of that film. Although that would be a lot to hang on poor Sam Smith.

  92. S.... C....

Omg can someone please edit the movie so that this plays instead of the original title sequence?

  93. D.... ....

Radiohead actually have another song that they wanted to be a Bond theme called Man of War (actually my favourite song by the band) which is on the OKNOTOK album I think. It wasn’t used cause it wasn’t written specifically for the film, so they made this. Two songs that are miles better than what that androgynous lump came up with.

  94. T.... ....

Excellent song. This is way better than that whiny crap they used for Spectre.

  95. C.... C....

Why the f*ck did they not use this version I will never understand

  96. J.... B....

The absolute lack of any discernible melody makes this eminently forgettable.

  97. T.... T....

I listened to both this song and The Writings on the Wall. I liked the Radiohead song better. It just seems to fit better with the overall time of the film. Plus, unlike the other song, this one actually used the word Spectre. And as for that crack about the song being "too dark", isn't that what this film is all about? James Bond is going after the organization that killed Vesper, right? With a plot like that, you need a dark song to set the tone, right?

  98. s.... ....

This is outstanding editing work, mate. Heavy congrats on that. And, yes, this would've been better than the original, IMHO, but I'm a huge Radiohead fan, so I'm clearly biased hehe

    s.... ....

@purry I also remember Madonna :P God help us!

    s.... ....

Actually no, they were right. I love Radiohead. But this song is not fiting James Bond moderns movie's spirit. And this song is awesome. Really.

    s.... ....

sweaq123 Im not a radiohead fan but I can tell you its 100x better than the original opening song

    s.... ....

I think both songs r good, but one fits the movie and one doesn’t

Actually, neither does cuz the movie sucked.

    s.... ....

Lmao, dude I do the same thing
