Radical Face - Ghost Towns Lyrics
I've got no need for open roads
'Cause all I own fits on my back
I see the world from rusted trains
And always know I won't be back
No past or future here
If I find my name's no good
I just fall out of line
But I miss you
But there's no comin' home
There's no comin' home
With a name like mine
I still think of you
But everyone knows
If you care then let it go
I've seen more places than I can name
And over time they all start to look the same
But it ain't that truth we chase
No, it's the promise of a better place
But all this time, I've been chasin' down a lie
And I know it for what it is
But it beats the alternatives
So I'll take the lie
I still miss you
There's no goin' home
There's no goin' home
With a name like mine
I still dream of you
But everyone knows
Yeah everyone knows
If you can, let it go

Wow this song makes me want to buy a piano. How amazing.
This song speaks volumes for me. I've got it in my playlist right next to Hollow Coves Coastline and Grizfolk Black Magic. Always makes me feel better somehow.
If these aren't the exact right words at the exact right time in my life then I'm not going the direction I want to go
Good tune.
Does anyone know where I can find an instrumental/karaoke version of this song?
It's almost as if this song was written for Life is Strange 2. It's unfortunate it wasn't a part of the game's soundtrack.
This would be Good in a Life Is Strange Series
Sean and Daniel's theme song from Life is Strange 2 as they travel from Seattle towards Puerto Lobos, Mexico.

"All this time I've been chasing down a lie. And I know it for what it is, but it beats the alternatives. So I'll take the lie..." - how I feel about the quest of finding meaning and sanctity in this life or some magical healthy love connection with another. It simply does not exist but facing the truth of that is something else.

In love with this song ♥
What an excellent song!
Chill just amazing. Melody, instrument, voice.. everything is perfect
I associate with this song. I'm only 18 and since I've graduated high school I've lived in 7 different cities and 2 different states. It hasn't even been a year yet, haha. I'm prone to running and almost always sabotage relationships instead of saying goodbye. I dunno why I'm like this, but this song soothes the pain caused from my self destruction
Sounds like Iron and wine
I couldn't find the lyrics in the comments so I figured I'd post them here for myself!

Those old train tracks are comforting. I’ll follow them one day, and leave this all behind.
They aren’t going fast enough to take me away.

Thankful for the old iTunes that used to give away free songs every week. This was one of the free ones, and I fell in love. It has so much depth. I wish more meaningful music was popular, but instead we have "you're a stupid ho" and others of the like. Disappointing that true art never becomes popular.
This song is actually about the exile of the Habsburgs from their lands of Austria-Hungary after their defeat on WWI
"I've got no need for open roads
'Cause all I own fits on my back
I see the world from rusted trains
And always know I won't be back"
This refers to the moment when Charles I and his family actually left Austria, escorted by British troops, on a train towards Switzerland (No need for open roads, I see the world from rusted trains). He is forced to leave all his possessions ('All I own fits on my back'), and although he hopes the Austro-Hungarian people will recall him, he has no hope on it ('And always know I won't be back')
'Cause all my life is wrapped up in today
No past or future here
If I find my name's no good
I just fall out of line
With this lines, Radical Face is talking about how the millenial history of the House of Habsburg is no more ('Cause all my life is wrapped up in today') and all their feats or projects, irrelevant ('No past or future here'), and their family, hated ('If I find my name's no good I just fall out of line')
But I miss you
But there's no comin' home
There's no comin' home
With a name like mine
I still think of you
But everyone knows
Yeah everyone knows
If you can, let it go
Now, here Charles I tells Austria he will miss her, but he knows that he is not returning because of what he is, a Habsburg ('There's no comin' home with a name like mine'), and the Habsburgs were banned from ever returning to Austria. Even though he doesn't want to leave because he loves his nation, he tells her to move on without them.
I seen more places than I can name
And over time they all start to look the same
But it ain't that truth we chase
No, it's the promise of a better place
This verse is one of the more complex to understand. He talks about how he has seen a lot of places (referring to the kingdoms of Bohemia and Hungary, and the Archduchy of Austria, and more in general to the whole of Europe), and 'over time they all start to look the same', referring to how Europe is turning towards republicanism (remember that the XIX and ealry XX centuries saw the abolition of most of Europe's monarchies in favour of republics). Now, with the line 'But it ain't that truth we chase', he refers that republicanism seems to have a better theoretical background (truth) since its based on democracy and the consent of the governed, theories that have seen a greater implementation during his era, but that he doesn't 'chase' it, since he is a monarchist. It is further developed on the next verse. With the last line 'No, it's the promise of a better place', he talks about how everyone really wants the same thing, a 'better place'.
But all this time, I been chasin' down a lie
And I know it for what it is
But it beats the alternatives
So I'll take the lie
Here, Charles I talks about how 'all this time', referring to his lifetime, he has 'been chasin' down a lie', talking about how monarchism and the Divine Right of Kings is seen as a lie by the people of his era, and that he knows that it is not a political ideology that is accepted anymore ('And I know it for what it is'). Still, he thinks he is the best political system available ('But it beats the alternatives'), so he will continue defending it ('So I'll take the lie'). This last line also refers to how Charles I never officially abdicated, he merely left the throne, and said so for his entire life. Quoting the man, 'I did not abdicate, and never will. (...) I see my manifesto of 11 November as the equivalent to a cheque which a street thug has forced me to issue at gunpoint. (...) I do not feel bound by it in any way whatsoever.'
I still miss you
There's no goin' home
There's no goin' home
With a name like mine
I still dream of you
But everyone knows
Yeah everyone knows
If you can, let it go
With this ending, it repeats the emotions felt by Charles I during his exile, which I've talked about before.
All in all, I think it's a great song and it possibly indicates underlying political beliefs of Radical Face, tending towards monarchism.
Literally every song is explained on their website (http://thefamilytree.radicalface.com/)
"Judah’s actions in “A Pound Of Flesh” caught up with him. The family members of the man he killed were out for revenge. In order to keep his loved ones safe, he lived on the run, never settling in one place for very long. He always misses his hometown and loved ones, but knows he cannot return.
To follow Judah’s line, see: Reminders"
I can't believe I just discovered this song today. So good
I can't even sing more than a couple of words to this song without tearing up and I'm not like that at all. So beautiful.
I still miss you
I always dance when 2:52 comes by
LOVE the piano in this. Great song.
just rediscovered radical face after six years and im nearly crying tears of pure joy. this is so so so good
White People music is either angry or depressing... I'm disgusted.
Big PayBacck says you when black people music can count angry rap and depressing soul music
Sooooo mature
Every kind of music can be beautiful, no need for racism in art
AMAZING
This. This hits me, and it hits me hard. I don't know why, but it just does. I've never traveled long ways away from home, I've never lived life on the run. But this song makes it hurt. It makes me realize what experiences people have gone through, even though I've never gone through them. A truly outstanding song. And I can already bet nobody is going to take this seriously because of my 'gorgeous' icon.
The accordion at the end was the cherry on top
melodica i think (:
Just put your headphone on and listen.....fantastic pure and simple...that is music all about...
If you care- let it go.
They have a new fan
WTCNN :/
That accordion gets me every time.
This song would be perfect for graystripe and the loves he's lost.
This was the first Radical Face song I heard. And I really like it.
But some time later I heard 'Always Gold' and it put this song into a new light for me. It made me feel that this song is a "sequel" to Always Gold when taking the lyrics of the two songs into account.
Eu simplesmente pulo do trem
Amazing ♥
1:43 is when my dance starts
This better be in life is strange: before the storm.
Esta chida !!
Adoro essa música
that song remind me to him..
I see this song as about someone who's always on the move, and every time he leaves he has to say goodbye to the people and the town he knew there, and to whatever home he has fashioned for himself. He misses what he leaves behind, but knows that he can't go back because his 'name's no good'. To me, this could mean two things. It could mean that, wherever he is, something always inevitably goes wrong, and there are too many rumours for him to stay (his 'name'/reputation is damaged); in many ways this makes me think of the original Hulk TV series, with Bruce Banner moving on at the end of each episode. Or, it could be about someone who is poor and looking to make their fortune (to 'make a name for themselves', so to speak), and who knows that, until he does, he can't go back home. So whenever he realises it isn't working out in this town, he packs up his minimal stuff and hops on the train, knowing he'll probably never return.
He knows he'll probably never find his 'better place', but since the alternative is to give up and live with whatever it is that keeps him moving, he prefers to 'take the lie'. And so each new place becomes a 'Ghost Town' for him; no-one there he knows, no-one there he wants to know because of the pain of saying goodbye, and no-one there who will remember him once he moves on.

Such wonderfull musics!
this song came right out of left field on me and kicked me right in the ass. can tonight a few tears have been shed, this one's for all my Fallen.
Hey what instrument is that at @3:38 ?
Over time lies become normalized.
They become ghosts of truths just out of reach.
You chase them long enough - decades - and you grow tired.
The lies become your reality, and the truth something you miss.
You know those pesky songs that suddenly come on when you're driving and they hit you like a ton of bricks? Everything slows down for a minute and it all just doesn't feel real
definitivamente minha música preferida!
Me dan ganas de enamorarme con está canción.
Man i listen to this song like 20 times a day. Love it!
The pipes at the end make me feel so melancholic
Such a beautiful song!
ı miss you :(
ohgod <3
Love this song...😢
This was the first song I downloaded for free on iTunes back when they did that. I listen to it when I'm sad and driving on my road trips. I'm okay with being alone.
