Quincy Jones - Birdland Lyrics
Lullaby of Birdland, that's what I
Always hear when you sigh
Never in my wordland
Could there be ways to reveal
In a phrase how I feel
Have you ever heard two turtle doves
Bill and coo when they love?
That's the kind of magic
Music we make with our lips when we kiss
And there's a weepy old willow
He really knows how to cry
That's how I'd cry in my pillow
If you should tell me farewell and goodbye
Kiss me sweet and we'll go
Flyin' high in Birdland
High in the sky up above
All because we're in love

Quincy Jones Birdland Comments
That was great, but I prefer the version by Maynard Ferguson.
not as good as the weather report version anyway
3:00 So is that how it felt to be "Down at Birdland"?
I heard this song by trumpet player Maynard Ferguson. He play the stuffing out of that song. He's a Caucasian dude. I like his version. Yeah, blow, Maynard Ferguson.
Die interpretation ist ihm sehr gut gelungen und auch perfekter als vom Joe Zawinul aber dafür ist Quincy Jones ja bekannt, Perfektionisten aber ohne Joe Zawinul hätte es dieses Stück nie gegeben.
This is embarrassing

Just...thank you
Sucks they didn't get the intro tho 🙁
So much awesome - loved the tape so much and played this song endlessly
Love QUINCYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY, he's a magical wonder !
As I heard this I knew it would be always one of my favorite intro's and total completance of what is JAZZ ! No one understands it better than SIR*MISTER * QUICY*JONES *!!!!!!!!
... and the more I heard this and I say... that's how the music should sound!
A GENIUS QJ
The Ella Fitzgerald voice is taken from the announcement of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers of 1954 Split Kick!!
Too smooth.
Brings tears to my eyes to hear the legendary Miles Davis begin his riff at 1:46, his health was steadily declining, and he would only be among us for two more years.....the "Picasso" of trumpet playing, imho.
Funny - was listening to Weather Report and thought of this one, but more specifically the whole album (Back on the Block). It really was the album that launched Tevin Campbell's career. But this version of Birdland had an absolutely incredible ensemble of arguably the best ever. Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie? And George Benson? But the genius is that Jones wanted them to GO IN with their trademark sound.
Damn do I miss these types of musicians... the men & women that were constantly striving for a certain sound. But this album... takes me back... lol when I was just a 10 year old kid overhearing this in my pop's stereo room. But of course I thought the Kool Moe Dee/Big Daddy Kane was cool back then. Now I'm in the wormhole remembering all the artists on the album as a whole. I mean... El Debarge, Barry White, Al Jarreau, Chaka Khan, Ice T, Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald and MANY more absolute LEGENDS. Not many producers could pull in that roster... if any. But such is Quincy Jones that... I bet he could do it again. lol
To be a composer/producer...and have music like this running around in your head....
Crazy how most of these artists died within several years after this was recorded. It was like Quincy knew this would be his last chance to get these greats to perform together
still so fine!!!!Quincy has never made a mistake - & & the best part - he knows that !!!!!!!!!!!

This is the theme song for African America. And by extension, America. THIS is the theme song!
QUINCY MONSTER....and the pupils
This sounds better when played on 1.25x speed.
originally fm Wheather report
This song is upbeat and slammin'! Killer beats! I loved it!
Superhyperultramegafucking great!
Speed up to 1.25
I LOVED!!!
80s sucked in so many painful ways (with some exceptions), but Quincy and Weather Report are timeless!!!!!!!!
To this day, I still Love this joint rt here.
Quincy Jones is so under appreciated it's painful. I mean he's won numerous awards and inspired and touched many contemporary artists and the music community as a whole, but the general public probably doesn't even know who this man is. Especially now in 2017.
People probably know him as Rashida's dad. :D
@Paul Mitten (mbvglider) That's true. LOL. She's gorgeous as well.
The guy is A GENIUS
@L L show RESPECT PUNK, or I make you. Punk
My dad have this album and I remember going through his CD collection in 1995 I was 13 at the time and looking for music to listen to. I had found this Quincy album and the one after this one and both are amazing.

+Club immobiliare Diano Marina (IM)
Some people have a short concentration span.
I think he directly ripped it from the CD for this. The track marker on the disc started right there.
It's pity. My CD have a great intro, you should listen it!
Club immobiliare Diano Marina (IM) the intro is the previous track on the CD
Club immobiliare Diano Marina (IM) thats another song you idiot
childhood

I play the whole cassette to death
Never heard an arrangement of this song that I disliked, must say though...Maynard Ferguson's arrangement is my favorite...this one has a a slight sluggish feel and isn't as powerful...still great though
If you speed it up a bit to 1.25x it sounds much better.
Quincy, I have loved your music, since my childhood.
Us too Alex
I played this tape to death!
@alex bernardo me too
ME TOO ! Quincy Jones is one cool cat.
Dee Trice me n mom too yess Amen
Me 3 😁 lol
Quincy Jones put his foot in this TOUGH. This is my favorite version of the song. It smacks dead of that glorious 80's sound.
This is my favorite version also... especially the part that sounds like the trumpets are all falling down the steps! (3:35) :-)
I love the beat. I do love Manhattan Transfer as well.
@M L MY FAVORITE VERSION IS WEATHER REPORT RIP JACO!
With Joe Zawinul himself, and solo by Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan & George Benson !!!
this album was and still a clinic
turntableone also he and jerry hey won best instrumental arrangement
Slammin' song! I loved it! I danced to my favorite song from this album.
was this really zawilu on keys? he really let the cast shine if so..
@turntableone Wasnt this the album in which everyone who was anyone came to Q's aid because Michael Jackson had fired him...?
I've just slapped my bass to a place 2 billion astronomical units from the edge of our solar system and following. Bassists please take care
It's all redone and covered by QJ!
MASTERPEICE
♥ this song... this version is sooo good! :O)
I love this song
The best song to play when testing new speakers... at a really loud sound!
It's called sampling.
Trust me, it's in almost every song, be it a lyric or the melody of the song.
I myself love it. It's nice seeing what other people can do with an idea.
If you like the original, listen to that instead of crying about how much someone "fucked up the whole song" like a little child- oh wait.
DEM TYPE O TUNE! Timeless! George Benson and dizzy's contribution I think I like the most;-)
had this on vinyl and CD!
this is pure magic! great perfomance
I've contributed at least thousand listens to this youtube video in the past 24 hours. Lol
...as did Sarah Vaughn and Dizz. Q caught a good many of these wonderful artists just before they slipped away from us.
