I find it interesting how you define your punk rock elitism through objectifying another band, It's like the Down By Law song "no equalizer": "A hundred smiles makes a frown more worthwhile" ..or something or other they sing. @flashesofbrilliance1 well, yeah. Like you say, they will hear the new GD and think it's punk (because GD probably call themselves punx). It's shit because the really meaning of a genre can be tainted that way, like it happened with "emo" and other "were once good" genres.

@jayjax229 lol I don't even remember what I meant, but it was probably something along the lines of if posers corrupt the fanbase, it might not affect the band right away, but in the long time, most bands would tend to change their sound to please the new fanbase. And what if the bands don't change? Fans (the bad ones :p) will start their own band, keeping the name of punk but totally corrupting it with whatever shit sound they can think of. It's pretty retarded, but it happened so many times :o

@Hubcool367 by structure i simply meant structure of the music itself, i totally agree that punk is simply a musical genre.

however, i do disagree about "posers" corrupting the genre. Although they may corrupt the fan base, as long as the artist puts out music that fits the genre, and not to please the fans, the genre stays pure regardless of their following.

Btw both of you are right, it would be cool that more people would (still) listen to punk, but at the same time by staying somehow undergrond, it makes it harder for "posers" to corrupt the genre.

Well, you are dead wrong there. This band, Pulley, and many others in their era still write music and tour to this day. I just saw Pulley and Lagwagon 3 days ago and they were fucking AMAZING! I mean......they blew my mind. I have seen Lagwagon many times but not Pulley...HOLY SHIT. And they were touring off of new albums. The fact is, these punk bands that I grew up with and love don't give two shits about making it big or being wealthy; they just love the music, the scene, and the fans that relate with them, thats all folks. That's why I love punk rock.
