Protest The Hero - Blindfolds Aside Lyrics

We woke up as men but tonight we'll sleep as killers
As we break the cryptic morning with a bullet and a prayer
The steel never seemed more cold and agile than now
And life never seems less vital and fragile
With a heart that's beating louder than my own
I watch a girl they call Kezia
I watch a woman that I know
My hopes and my own future blindfolded
To atone for a sin I didn't care for, but a sin that paid my debts
A sin that fed my children and burned my smiles and cigarettes
And no one ever said that hope would be so beautiful
And no one ever said I'd have to pull the trigger on her
I can't even still her trembling hands
that were locked up by the dutiful and the obligated;
Five soldiers forever sedated with the, "No one's responsible"
psychological drama of our social justice dribble, dribble, dribble
Her tiny steps tell lies about the choice I have to make;
(Resurrect a static lifetime starve to death my own mistakes)
Pull the screaming trigger and watch your carcass bleed me dry
Or drop the gun and try to shake away the blindfold from your eyes?
Drop the gun, drop the gun, drop the gun, drop the gun.
Sin I didn't care for, but a sin that paid my debts
A sin that fed my children and burned my smiles and cigarettes
Sin I didn't care for, but a sin that paid my debts
A sin that fed my children and burned my smiles and cigarettes

    Rody is so underrated.

  4. K.... K....

To anyone who hasn’t figured out the story to this album. You have to look into it. This album doubles as a concept album involving an innocent girl set for a execution. The album has 3 sections and a finale. Every section is from the perspective of a different character in the setting and is divided by an instrumental. It starts with the Prison Priest. Then it’s the Prison Executionor. Then it’s Kezia, the female on trial. The final song is meant to wrap it all up.

Knowing this the songs become much more meaningful. Lines like “I couldn’t even still her trembling hands, that were locked up by the dutiful and the obligated” and “They never said I’d have to pull the trigger on her” really cement the authoritarian nature of the setting where the people involved in her action don’t even want to be.

  5. D.... A....

Should make a band and call it Disregard the bystanders

  6. B.... Y....

Was always reminded of Craig Owens in high school listening to this.

  7. r.... ....

  18. S.... L....

    Lembras, nostalgia! !!!

  19. F.... S....

This band reminds me of Incubus.. You thought they had potential, but they didn't.

    F.... S....

These guys have more potential in their dicks than you have in your entire fucking face.

    F.... S....

Incubus is amazing punk/surf rock but this is a progressive metal wet dream. Can not compare the two if genera matters.

    F.... S....

Forrest Slater more like you thought they had potential but then they exceeded every expectation you had. Only “bad” album they’ve come out with was Scurrilous and I still think it’s a 7/10 album.

  20. B.... ....

    that was ORGASMIC !

  21. C.... C....

    eh...

    L.... S....

That's not how you use 'you're'.

    L.... S....

I apologise. I can tell from your subscriptions that you're either very young or severely Autistic. Irony's probably not your strong suit.

    L.... S....

Jesus Christ, just shut the fuck up Hogos.

    L.... S....

Take your own advice you fucking asspie.

    L.... S....

    How old are you now?!?!

  24. h.... t....

the vocals are god awful. I'd rather listen to avenge sevenfolds super winy ass vocals than this.

    h.... t....

This comment is god awful. I'd rather listen to whiny twelve year olds on call of duty than listen to you speak ;)

    h.... t....

Fuck you. You red headed step child

    h.... t....

hank the handkerchief why the hell are you here then? Everyone here is obviously a huge fan of this song and band. Take your ignorant negativity elsewhere.

    h.... t....

Gregory Atwood well YouTube though it was a good idea to put this trash on my feed. so it's not my fault. I would have never listened to it if it wouldn't have poped up so up yours

    h.... t....

I would rather stab my eyes out with a piece of chalk than listen to Avenged sevenfolds Whitney ass shit

  38. P.... S....

That riff?!! That beautiful duet?!?! What's not to like is you, douchebag. =)

  39. A.... P....

Awww man. This is totally a good song by Protest The Hero from their album Kezia.

  40. b.... ....

'no one ever said that hope would be so beautiful' best part imo

  41. N.... S....

    เป็นวงแนว melodic core ที่่ ชอบมากครับ

  42. S.... R....

Once I saw this video, I thought to myself, "I might have a new favorite band."

  43. J.... L....

the slow moments in PTH songs are absolutely amazing and beautiful...if people cant accept the beauty of music then good riddance to them.

  44. N.... S....

Every song has a topic just as poems do. This one was focused on war if im not mistaken and is suppose to have a sad part in it or something, something to touch your heart. For the record who are you to say that they fucked the song? You arent the one who made it.

  45. C.... A....

And releasing a 4th this year!

  46. M.... D....

This song! My goodness! Love it!

  47. J.... M....

    indiegogo. com /protestthehero?c=activity

  48. T.... ....

    I think it's Jadea Kelly.

  49. L.... ....

Whats the name of the girld of the end? the female singer? plz response

  50. D.... ....

    No... No, what? NO

  51. l.... ....

Yeah! acoustic guitar is gay! even if it's some of the fucking tastiest licks that a man (or lady) could play without ripping the universe asunder.

    l.... ....

    ltgreatsocks1 disagree

  52. R.... M....

Yes and have put out two more amazing albums.

  53. M.... M....

you're a shitty stupid pointless outro

  54. g.... ....

Anyone else thought they saw madelbrots on the album cover?

  55. N.... K....

The vocals remind me of the Mars Volta.

  56. m.... ....

I bet if you listen to the lyrics you can relate to a time where you did something you didn't want to, but you had to do, and maybe it was a shitty thing, and you know secretly you love this outro.

  57. b.... ....

that softer part at the end is actually unremarkably fucking awsome... just sayin

  58. _.... ....

For those who don't know, this is a concept album. If you're into the story of the record, obviously you would be more predisposed to enjoying the soft part at the end. Casual listeners would probably be baffled by it and not enjoy it as much. This is my favorite PTH song, and I'm quite indifferent to the part myself. I don't consider it a part of the song but it's still a part of the story, if that makes sense. Stop hating on people that enjoy the music, it doesn't make sense to be a snob.

  59. K.... O....

    Make that seven.

  60. L.... L....

That's the reason they're not good anymore, besides being another generic band. They were kind of unique back in the day, but now they're just like any other nu-metal band.

  61. J.... L....

Slipknot has some soft songs, too, and I enjoy those..

  62. j.... ....

    replay button 0:00

  63. j.... ....

greatest part of the song is 0:00 to 6:04

  64. t.... g....

LOL pointless outro.. do you even listen to music nowadays? someone is a idiot..

  65. L.... L....

Stick to shit like Slipknot or whatever "heavy" bands you like, kiddo. Leave Protest the Hero alone.

  66. A.... ....

    To me it's 2:47 - 3:07

  67. J.... M....

3:19 - 3:25 greatest vocal moment in pth history

  68. O.... ....

after listening this time and reading the lyrics, i realized that the prison guard actually drops his gun at the end and walks away. "pull the screaming trigger and watch your carcass bleed me dry, or drop the gun and try to shake away the blindfold from your eyes. drop the gun" i think this is him realizing he can't do it. i could be wrong though.

  69. M.... ....

    fuck you sir.

  70. R.... S....

wait..that outro just blew my mind...

  71. T.... ....

i think the outro is not only musically brilliant but lyrically, too - the fact that it's a duet marks the perfect transition between the 3 prison guard songs to the 3 kezia songs, especially with the lyrics, since they both apply to each person (guard's sin of killing, kezia's of being a prostitute)

  72. D.... L....

    Oh yeah ;D

  73. B.... ....

    Like a Sir ;)

  74. B.... ....

@TheRemotestCipher Simple way to remedy this: separate the two from each other as different tracks.

  75. m.... m....

@conformiste1 Check out Soilwork and Mnemic.

  76. P.... ....

Came here cause the official video wasn't loud enough.

  77. b.... ....

I like that one of the guys who asked TheRemotestCipher legitimate questions had the comment flagged as spam. Just wow.

  78. S.... M....

If anyone thinks there is a better song on this planet, show it to me. Show it to me now.

  79. P.... ....

    @TheRemotestCipher
If you actually had a brain and listened to the CD instead of judging it blindly, then you would know that the piano outros and intros aren't "shitty, stupid, pointless" They serve as a bridge between ideas in their CD's. Kezia is a CD taken from 3(4 if you count the last song) perspectives of an execution. Take your fucking head out of your ass and do some research before you decide that something like your shitty, stupid, and pointless opinion.

  80. J.... W....

I'm still waiting for this to come to Rock Band >_>

  81. G.... B....

acoustic outro with jadea kelly is beyond perfect. so much soul from rodys voice too

  82. J.... ....

@TheRemotestCipher Progressive Metal bro, PROGRESSIVE. Get with it. Pretty soon....acoustic breakdowns.

  83. L.... ....

    @TheRemotestCipher That's the point

  84. S.... H....

@TheRemotestCipher If you don't know, the next song on the album is about Kezia. That should explain it all. This whole album is packed with emotions, and the switch of emotions was (I'm guessing) a way to show the transition to Kezia's part of the album (from the prison guard).

  85. X.... ....

@TheRemotestCipher Oh sorry I thought you talked about the part after the solo. Actually on the version I have on my Ipod there isn't that outro and I must say I agree with you it's kinda better without it imo. Have some respect though some people like it this way. No need to say it's shit, stupid or pointless. You simply dont enjoy it...

  86. T.... ....

@XxQCGHxX I like metal, classic rock, jazz, and classical. I also play in a band myself and play bass guitar.

The outro... all of it... does not fit the tone of the rest of the song. The piano intro works better because it builds a nervous sort of energy before having the song explode into a huge, aggressive burst. Having the soft outro makes no sense because the energy still hangs over after the song ends, and is shit on by the sudden, pointless, stupid change of mood.

  87. X.... ....

@CanimCursor Note that the the girl is accused of prostitution. "because he knows he has to do his job in order to feed his family." same thing with her.

  88. D.... L....

@TheRemotestCipher You dislike soft moments in songs?

You sir, are immature and very narrow minded.
Stay the fuck away from PTH.

  89. C.... ....

@TheRemotestCipher The song is supposed to represent the mental battle in the executer's mind as he holds the gun. All the parts before the outro are his morals and duty fighting against each other. The outro itself, is like a whisper in the back of his head, because he knows he has to do his job in order to feed his family. The duet might be a representation of his family. This is a concept album, and the lyrics are a part of the story. I hope this helps you understand their music better.

    C.... ....

CanimCursor thanks for the comment much respect

  90. D.... I....

@SamsonOff7. i completely agree.. im seeing them on the 25th!!

  91. j.... ....

@Pr4sEoDyMiUm No. Rody's voice is talent, this is what you get for listening to PTH. If you prefer some more mainstream voice, listen to something else.

  92. P.... ....

Jesus fuck that singer is annoying. He sounds like he's crying into the mic..
This band might actually be good with a better vocalist

    P.... ....

Pr4sEoDyMiUm no are you kidding me

    P.... ....

Nah man it's about he uses his voice. If you think about it that way he it's in pretty well.

    P.... ....

I half agree with you. At times I t can be irritating, but I get used to it eventually. Be grateful you can find instrumentals for most of these songs. sorry to bump a 6 year old comment

    P.... ....

Pr4sEoDyMiUm check out ne obliviscaris if you're even still an active user

    P.... ....

Pr4sEoDyMiUm his voice has gotten alot less screamy I must say, scurrilous album has him at a perfect balance imo. Love this band

  93. T.... ....

@LordVysh ...The outro doesn't tell a story. The outro completely shits on the rest of the song and abruptly kills all the energy contained in the ending before it. You wanna say "that's badass" and then all of a sudden its an acoustic duet. I mean, c'mon.

  94. E.... ....

@MRSAMBONE2332 maybe if i heard this one first i'd think differently. its not that i'm against acoustic parts...i just really don't like this song's acoustic part.

  95. E.... ....

@MRSAMBONE2332 naw, its boring. have you heard the other version? the outro is epic. the acoustic part pales in comparison

  96. D.... L....

@TheRemotestCipher What are you talking about? That outro is amazing.

  97. D.... L....

I like to drink a fine wine whilst I listen to Protest the Hero.

  98. T.... B....

lol? never heard that outro before xD though I have the cd
