Proclaimers, The - Streets Of Edinburgh Lyrics
Along these broken pavements
I let my mind run free
The past and the present
Seem just the same to me
The people I have loved most
And in the plainest language
Their stories they did tell
They pass, they pass
They pass, they pass
The streets of Edinburgh
Hold half the world for me
In scores, in droves
The living and the ghosts
The streets of Edinburgh
Depending on your viewpoint
This place is blessed or cursed
And in the years I've lived here
I've seen the best and worst
An air of sordid passion
A look of dirty grace
But not right in your face
It's not that kind of place
They pass, they pass
They pass, they pass
The streets of Edinburgh
Hold half the world for me
In scores, in droves
The living and the ghosts
The streets of Edinburgh
Mean most to me
Down greasy potholed roadways
I watch the traffic crawl
But for the cars and buses
I give no thought at all
I think about the future
I wonder at her health
How with this human wealth
She does renew herself
They pass, they pass
They pass, they pass
The streets of Edinburgh
Hold half the world for me
In scores, in droves
The living and the ghosts
The streets of Edinburgh
Mean most to me

Went to Edinburgh as an 18 year old for " a couple of weeks".....20 years , 3 months and 10 days later I emigrated to Canada 🇨🇦 😂
How does the world not support Hibernian FC yet with all these classics the proclaimers have written
The world has Celtic ;-)
A wonderful song, be it about your town or anywhere, it’s one that’s needed for everywhere and everyone that we’re all part of a whole! A whole of love! Seen too much shite cack n’kinder in me life because we’re different colours of skin or name given to God. We can all get on only it takes all! Kushti bok ! 💜
Beautiful song
Hauntingly beautiful. Strikes right into your soul.
Wow. Wow wow wow! 😍 Love this song.
streets of edinburgh
I want to go to Edinburgh someday. My family originally came from that area. I feel so lost here now. I want to go back to my family's original home. I hope the Scots would accept a poor lost American of Scottish descent as one of their own. 🏴
ALWAYS TEARS IN MY EYES.. SUCH A WONDERFUL SONG.SO GOOD WOW.
As much as I love the Proclaimers, and this song and video, a wee clip of some Hearts supporters would have, made this more appealing to all Edinburgh lovers
Where my ancestors came from. Very proud 🏴❤
What a powerful and catchy song!
I was born on the 4th June 1972, in the western General hospital, Edinburgh, I grew up there attended the Royal high school, I've been all over world and nothing beats Edinburgh, I've worked in Glasgow for 25 years going home soon x

I'm from Aberdeen - I sing (!) "Aberdeen" in place of Edinburgh .. but .. hey.. I lo ve Edinburgh too <3
Best thing to come out of Fife.
I was in Edinburgh last week, so beautiful city, love it! You scots are very kind and hospitable, thanks for a great time. (Cheers from Czech rep.).
Born & bred in this unique , magical city with an incredible history stretching back over 1,000 years this wonderful song really stirs my soul reminding me of loved ones who are no longer with us. My 2 other favourite tracks with Edinburgh connections are : 'What it is' by Mark Knopfler & 'Royal Mile' by Gerry Rafferty.
Only legends can be inspirational by making songs like these, best song from the proclaimers I’ve ever heard
This is why I don't want Scotland to leave the union, it's a lovely place that produces the best sorts of people and I'll be very sad if the Tories ruin it all for us by forcing them to leave the U.K. to escape leaving the E.U.
Edinburgh is shite lol, although to be fair, Perth isn't any better hahaha
"They pass, they pass, they pass...they pass"
That's 4 passes in a row. OBVIOUSLY NOT A HIBS SONG THEN.
Great song for a city that deserves it. Cudos from a German couple who visited all too short a couple of days ago.
If you want a good laugh (or wince, or both), turn on the automatic „subtitling“...
I've been living in Edinburgh for 4 years and it is my dear home ❤️ My place on Earth.
This makes me nostalgic, I miss it....x
Nice song and music. Streets of Edinburgh...the best city in UK...and one of the best cities of Europe. Greetings from Greece

<3<3 makes me so proud to be Scottish. Mmmm
Oh wow..... makes me feel homesick, and i've never even been to Edinburgh......
Beautiful song. Well up there with their best. And that’s a fair old height: these guys couldn’t write a really bad song or sing badly if they tried. Their amazing voices just seem to get stronger and richer. And now this song almost makes this auld Weegie wish she came from ‘the other side’. 😜😆
Now let’s have one about Glasgow: Sunshine on Sauchiehall Street? It’s About 500 Miles From One End Of Argyle Street To The Other? The Pavements Are Broken? No?
Well, maybe not. But we need something better to sing after a few drams than, “I belong to Glasgow ... “ Take pity on us Weegies, please?
Holy shit these dudes are still making music??
Im a Weegie but i love this song, the old saying is the best thing to come out of Edinburgh is the bus to Glasgow, i think its they two speccy bastars

Beautiful. Made me cry, so evocative, thinking of my home, my family, and time past. Thank you.
Just found this song by accident I was born in Edinburgh but brought up in the Scottish borders live in Kent now I think it is now time to come back home after 30 yrs well done guys brilliant song keep them coming
My mum is from Edinburgh. I went over when I was 7 to stay with my grandparents for a few months. That was before it was "cool" to be Scottish (pre Braveheart) and mum had my first kilt made for me at 5 yrs old. My friends hadn't even heard of Scotland! I went back to visit relos, after my grandparents passed, when I was 17. I haven't been since the '90's. I grew up in NYC but my heart is in Edinburgh. I'm now a mum and I can't wait to show my daughter her roots! This song is everything.
Beautiful hymn for a superb city. Nice Scottish People.
Absolutely beautiful song. I love these guys music, so heartfelt and authentic.

Wonderful homage to a wonderful city.I'm Irish,my dad was a Weegie, but I always preferred Embra. Haven't been there in over a decade.I must rectify that soon
Hi to George and Gadge at the Coopers Rest if they are still kicking, cheers to George and Gadge if they aren't, and to big Tam even if he was a Hearts supporter lol, used to live on Lorne Street as a young Aussie backpackers in the 90s, you guys know where that is ;)

I'm an American with no Scottish in my history (I don't believe), but this is a beautiful, beautiful song to me. Well done. Love it!
From Russia with love!!! Thank you, your music and your voices... simply breathtaking! And I 💖 the accent soooooo much) Wish I were there, in Edinburgh.. one day maybe
Absolute class from a scot and a jambo.
I'm from the US and we know only the (500 miles) tune but I just found their others such as this one, which are even better! What a shame that were not privy to these other tunes!
David Letterman? :)
instant funeral classic
The Proclaimers have moved beyond mere pop music and are now in the business of writing hymns and anthems for Edinburgh funerals.
Imagine this beautiful song belted out at Easter Road just like Sunshine on Leith - goosebumps for sure!

A Lovely and an extremely beautiful city. Cheers from Brazil, dear and amazing Edinburgh.
Promise to self: I am going back to Edinburgh
EPIC THE PLOCLAIMERS NICE EPIC

They pass, they pass
The streets of Edinburgh
Hold half the world for me
In scores, in droves
The living and the ghosts
The streets of Edinburgh

What a lovely song and how happy I am for coming to Edinburgh over Hogmany this year. Coming back to Scotland is,
and were, always what I want. This time I will come back home to with this new CD in my bag. Thank you Proclaimers.
What a beautiful song tore at my heart strings.
BORN AND BRED
Just close you’re eyes put your headphones on and drift through Edinburgh, but it could just as well be you’re own home town.
Can't decide whether this song is beautiful or something along the lines of a tourist video. However, as an English-born Hibby who has a deep attachment to Edinburgh and look forward to every visit, I'll have to settle on the former!
Saw the lads in Manchester played this track unbelievable and great gig
I’m from Glasgow and it brought a tear to my eye. Its up there with these are my mountains.
love your voices.. just like 100s of millions
