Proclaimers, The - Like Comedy Lyrics

You were built to last a lifetime
Just not the life that you live
You don't have to make it worse
'Cause the world isn't perfect
And you don't need to give a toss
But you'd make it better if you did
You did, you did, you did

You were made to be loving
Not a source of bitterness and hate
And when you turn them on yourself
You make one more useless martyr
Make the best of here and now
Heaven or hell can wait
They'll wait, they'll wait, let them wait

When you lose your appetite for self-destruction
You can stop viewing life as tragedy
Give it a few more years and look from this angle
Where it looks more and more and more like comedy
Where it looks more and more and more like comedy

Oh, you were made to be happy
Not mired in sorrow and regret
Misery comes around enough
You don't need to invite him
And when he leaves you should grab
All the joy you can get
You can get, you can get, you can get

When you lose your appetite for self-destruction
You can stop viewing life as tragedy
Give it a few more years and look from this angle
Where it looks more and more and more like comedy
Where it looks more and more and more like comedy
Like comedy
Like comedy
Like comedy

Nice one. Continue 'proclaiming' them, spread the word :)
Whenever I do talk about them to friends, I usually note that the really popular ones, like 500 miles, are quite low down in my rankings of all Proclaimers songs. So many songs of theirs which I prefer.
I went to see them in Bristol on wednesday, and was surprised to see a ten year old (or around that sort of age) there. Good to see some parents are teaching their kids about good music :D

Totally agree with you corack. I'm 18 mysefl and from my own experience I know that when someone "proclaim" music of The Proclaimers is important to start with more easier songs, like 500 miles or I'm on my way. Well, I'm tryning to "proclaim" The Proclaimers among my friends, and some people liked them. ;)

This song brings a tear to my eye every time I listen to it. The lyrics are fantastic and emotively delivered by the lads.
Wish more people of my generation (I'm 19) would give the Proccies a chance. Whenever I mention them, half of my friends immediately say 'I hate them'. When I then ask if they've heard any other song apart from 500 miles, they say no.
Few bands produce such beautiful songs so consistently. Everyone should listen to them :)

  12. M.... ....

my feet are in this mud but i'll pull them out for you

The Proclaimers have yet to make a bad album. Sure they've never had one massive album (like Meatloaf's Bat Out of Hell for example). But they keep going from strength to strength.

Loving the sound of this new album so far!

  21. b.... ....
