Prince is joker.

The dating you provide resolves a lot for me. It was pretty much written and produced around the same time as "What Time Is It?" and "Ice Cream Castles." When "Jerk Out" was released as the first single, I thought, then, that it sounded like vintage Prince-produced Time material. I love Morris Day and the Time, even have tickets to see them in a few months; but Morris and Jesse never really accurately credited Prince's involvement with the creation of the songs on this album. It didn't seem to matter to Prince, though. In fact, he probably preferred it that way. Prince was the epitome of music and never allowed himself to get hung-up on a certain song or sound, though he came to understand his role in fulfilling the desires of his fans when he performed live. In the studio, however, he did his thing the way he heard and envisioned it. He always put it out there. We are just now catching up with some of his commercial flops like The Rainbow Children, which I've been jogging to all week.

The whole reason for The Time's existence was as an alter-ego for Prince. The idea was also to create a fake beef for Prince, which provided much publicity. People at my school thought it was real and took sides. He specifically didn't want to be credited so as to build the illusion. It wasnt Morris and Jesse's choice.

@FunkFight1 I agree and understand that, for Prince, the alter ego was all part of his creative and business vision. He was way ahead of Morris and The Time. The irony here is that it was the ego of Morris and Jesse that couldn't fully buy into Prince's vision. The beef was business, but it became real. I refer you to the documentary the Time created for the release of Condensate as The Original 7even. Morris and Jesse start to set-in on Prince, but Jimmy Jam and the others reel them back in.
