Yes and no. Prince was fond of using a piece of audio technology called VSO, variable speed oscillator. It could raise or lower the tone in his voice without changing the pitch. If you listen to the full intro on 1999, his line "don't worry i won't hurt you i just want to have some fun" is slowed down putting his voice in the bass register. Extremely innovative!

Prince was right that you should have a song by the name of the album - so he did it for him. It probably helped Jesse's sales in the end. Not sure it was the right way to go about it, but it ended up a win for them both.

This song was written by Prince because he gave Jesse a hard critique on his then unreleased LP. Prince's shockadelica, was to show that Jesse couldn't look at his album from another perspective. And honestly, he was right.
