For those who don't understand the severity of this download, let me break it down to you: the year is 1985. My mom bought the record and this was the b side to Raspberry Beret. She played it until well you know... it went out of style. Then fast forward, the song is in my head (LITERALLY). I look to YouTube and all these not Princes were singing it and I couldn't find it EVER! imagine a song stuck in my head that I heard at the age of 4 now being released. I needed the studio version and I couldn't find it in the record store and that store closed. Then it got into my head again, today December 21, 2019 and I looked it up and sweet Christmas! It's here and I'm getting all kinds of chills and tears!!!!! MY CHILDHOOD IS NOW COMPLETE ON YOUTUBE!!!!!!!!!

I love that he wrote these songs for and about the women in his life. It’s a diary of sorts of where he was at.
It’s amazing with all the women he had around him there is zero negative talk, they all still adored him even if he broke their hearts... or maybe a good portion broke his heart.... I’ve often wondered if he was looking for a woman who would give up their career for him instead of looking to him to enhance their career. At the same time you could tell he loved the female voice and fell for the woman... problem was there too many and he seemed to have a love for them all.
Jill certainly did stay around quite some time, I think they had a pretty deep connection of sorts.

He's definitely not singing about a woman here... this is a deeply religious song, in my opinion. Read the lyrics *very* carefully and think about the word "she" and Prince's "love symbol"... and what Prince likely thought was the only way humans could transcend themselves- (unity) Close your eyes and the ending is as terrifying as it is exhilarating. I do believe this is an intensely spiritual song, its roots firmly in the gospel tradition.

Prince, being obsessed with duality, saw things a certain way- I don't believe he feared death any more than he feared life, which clearly wasn't much. He danced on the edge all the time with nothing but faith that 'she' would catch him. From his perspective, that brought him farther than almost anyone has gone.. so how could anyone tell him she wasn't there? My 2 cents.
