Now THIS is one of those unreleased Prince outtakes that had "sleeper hit" written all over it! Glad this was included on the deluxe edition of his now-iconic '1999' album. Not often you get to hear him tackling the reggae genre, but whenever he does it's usually well worth the effort. Really tasty guitar work on this one as well.

The song wakes memories of Prince's girlfriend visit him in his place from Europe. Suddenly Prince have to go to do his concert somewhere else and his girlfriend only want to be with him in private. Prince telling her to stay and he will be back as soon as he can.

Kinda has a reggae sound to it mixed with soft rock

Half the songs on the first album were not good at all, IMO, so maybe. (3 songs on that album were killer.)

i dont like alot of prince outtakes this is def one of his better ones, i guess they didnt think it would fit on 1999

While I too enjoy this track if that indeed was the sentiment regarding its exclusion from 1999 I would be inclined to agree for once all the tracks have a sort of vibe to them, altho they're not all similar they gel together somehow... I don't feel like this would have blended well with the other tracks on 1999

Here's what makes me upset I'd rather them release these unheard songs from this era as their own album from The Vault why include this as throwaways from the 99 era why these could be albums on their own that would give us something special to feel I don't like this is like extras added into 1999 peace could have been songs put on their own album from the vault

It would have been tacky to release these as fake albums. The way they are released is classy and right; they are outtakes of 1999. That is their context. They were recorded in that era. Having this all together broadens and deepens "1999" and all it stands for.

Some of these plans were put into motion before he passed, but got scrapped for different reasons. There was even a retrospective documentary that got canned by Prince. Compiling everything puts the entire era into context. It's still incomplete, because the "What Time is It?"/"Vanity 6" projects and outtakes weren't included. So many of the albums that followed have their origins from this period.

I see what your getting at but it's very likely some of these tracks were intended to be on the album originally, hence they were included in the special edition 1999 remaster.... Think of it like a DVD that has deleted scenes, it's no different to the purple rain remaster which included many similar examples from that period of time... Like @modifiedcontent touched on with it being tacky making fake albums, if they put em on a vault album unless they put everything indiscriminately who would be the arbiter of compiling said albums? I suppose actually that even with how it's went down with this album we're seeing some of the negative aspects of such choices... I know a track from 1982 that to my dismay wasn't included here despite it fitting the time line 😔
