Prince - Dreamer Lyrics

Eye was born & raised on the same plantation
In the united states of the red, white and blue
Eye never knew that eye was different
Til dr. king was on the balcony
Lying in a bloody pool
Expected so much more from a loving society

A truthful xplanation but you know what?
Eye got another conspiracy

If it was just a dream... call me
Call me a dreamer 2
With more rewards & accolades
Than anyone b4 or after
21st century, oh what a shame
That race still matters
A race 2 what and where we going?
We r in the same boat
But eye'm the only one rowin
Last time eye checked you were sleepin'
...but you can call me a dreamer 2
Peanut butter logic served on a bed of lies
Don't go down 2 easy
When you see ur father cryin'
Have you ever clutched the steering wheel
Of ur car 2 tight?

Prayin' that the police sirens
Pass you by at night?
While the helicopter circles
& the theory's getting deep
Thing they're spraying chemicals over the city
While we sleep?

From now on eye'm staying awake...
So you can call me a dreamer 2
Wake up wake up

    WB still hold his masters.

  4. C.... M....

Is this something out of his vault?

    C.... M....

No. This song is from the lotus Flower album, which I believe was released in 2009. Planet Earth is another great album that came out in late 00s. Prince never stopped good music.

I heard this for the first time today and thought, “Jimi is smiling.” I’ve been a Prince fun since Purple Rain and a Hendrix fan since 1967 and new that Prince could pull off a jam like this. I was in Minneapolis this summer and took a photo of the First Avenue wondering what it must have been like to be there when he was tearing the roof off the sucker. I took a photo through the tears in my eyes and just stood there in the 110 degree heat of the big city weeping. People say he’s the Black Mozart, but I say Mozart couldn’t hold a candle to Prince because he was stuck in one genre; Prince was music. Music was Prince.

ajhoncantara thanks for the story and feelings bro. Prince was Music. On another level (seen him three times live!).

He was getting so close to his 'muse' Jimi Hendrix , mix in mid 70's jazz rock and we're getting close to the real soul of this remarkable man ...
    A maverick , an icon ...
Much like Jimi and Bowie he was sent down to the planet to shake us up for a while then go home ...

These 3 incredible musicians managed to change the face of modern music ...

We . as mere mortals looked on in wonder .

They were reckless, innovative, outsiders- creators and leaders in a world absorbed with worshiping itself .
They stepped out of the mainstream and made us take note , you could never predict what would happen next ,
They kept us quessing wanting more .
Jimi died too young for us become critical , too young for us to become unhappy with his direction .

Bowie continued with his refusal to repeat the same as had gone before , never one to sit still he always tried to reach out and invent .
'Prince took on the mantle , he was watching , listening, absorbing these incredible influences...
With a memory bank full of -Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, The Beatles , Zeppelin, Parliament ,James Brown, Sly , Stevie Wonder , Marvin Gaye , The Staples ...his time was right , he came , he saw, he listend and he played ...

It didn't stop during the 80's he was the Maverick , the new guru, an abstract...
The world wanted everything he could give and he gave them more ...

They wanted the same, he wouldn't comply , he did things very differently ....
The record label wanted the same , he wanted out, he wouldn't play the game ...
And then when released from those chains , the public didn't always understand ...

Much like David Bowie the 90's were creatively sporadic and brilliant .
Live, he played like it was his last day on earth , he was a genius par excellence .

2016 was a terrible year, we first lost Bowie and then Prince, both were in pain and it was time to go ...
Thank you for what you gave us all ...
Without you 3 my life would be so different , so cold , no soul ...
You all gave me the soundtrack to my life ...

Jimi started something that Prince was able to finish .

Man I wish I could get to one of those gigs that the 3 of them are now playing around the universe.

    Their souls remain alive ...
    Thank you .

    S.... ....

Jimi, Bowie and Prince, totally agree, they were the transformative beacons of light.

  18. d.... ....

This song is about his 'Black Man Experience' in America and how UNKNOWN and SUSPICIOUS chemicals (via Chem Trails) r being sprayed from aircraft, which r designed MAINLY 4 urban/black neighborhoods!😑 However I'm LOVIN that 'Hendrix Type' feel tho!😉👍TRULY 1 of his gems.

    d.... ....

Get off the race train...they spray everyday here in Bozeman. Look up how black this community is. It's global my brother 👌🏾✌🏻

  32. J.... A....

Perfect song for current state of affairs ;)

  33. f.... u....

    Prince channeling Hendrix

  34. G.... B....

That's the thing with Prince.  Every album there were little gems in it, be it if you liked rock, funk, jazz, blues, pop, gospel or fusions of those genres.  He could have a hard rock/funk song like this followed by a love ballad.  His musical reach was limitless.  Such a shame he passed only halfway through his life.  We would be hearing albums from him every year until he was in his late 80s.  Music was all this man did.  It wasn't a means to an end for him.  It was simple all he wanted to do.

    G.... B....

    Well said!!❤

  35. R.... C....

    Lawd have mercy!!❤❤💜

  40. D.... W....

    Awesome!

  41. M.... J....

Rock and roll baby.....miss this guy....

  42. R.... H....

Seriously a funky Jimi Hendrix like tune. He admired Jimi Hendrix quite a bit...just look at the outfits and listen to alot of his music...he just took it to another level. Purple Haze...Purple Rain. The ruffled blouse type shirts etc. Jimi was a great influence to Prince.

    R.... H....

YES, this is true. ... And Prince looked much better with ruffled blouse than Jimi, in my opinion! : )

    R.... H....

Danielle Rameau and also Sly Stone hats

  44. s.... 7....

    Best Riff EVER

  45. M.... P....

I love this and the lyrical meaning. Has a little Hendrix influenced sound, but it is all Prince 4 sure!!

  46. H.... H....

Sounds like Prince summoned some Hendrix to jam wit!!!

  47. D.... M....

Very Hendrix like. Kind of reminds of Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)...

    D.... M....

This is indeed a 'Hendricks' tribute in a couple of ways the sound, and the message...You see Prince like Hendricks (great❤️for both genuses, whom both were self taught) were activist through their music, and both put up resources for the cause, that's why both were taken out in the way that they were!!!

    D.... M....

Factually, it is Hendrix inspired per the the man himself. One of Prince's best guitar tracks.

    D.... M....

    Hendrix like? Intro to Zannalee

    D.... M....

I see someone is such a Hendrix fan she can't even get his name right. LOL

    D.... M....

  51. C.... N....

This song was dedicated to the late Dick Gregory.

  52. L.... U....

    Sounds like Lenny Kravitz

    L.... U....

    Laura Undisclosed loooool

    L.... U....

    Kravitz learned from Prince.

    L.... U....

    Wrong direction Laura.

    L.... U....

Prince was Lenny's hero what u said is blasphemy

    L.... U....

Prince had Hendrix in him when he wrote this

  53. S.... B....

Great lyrics and an awesome rock song. Love the guitar solo. One of my all time favourite Prince songs
