Pride, Charley - I Know One Lyrics

When all your loves have ended when all your friends have flown
Who'll be around to want you when all your loves have gone
Only a fool would do it after the way you've done
But how many fools would have you I know one
This fool keeps wondering why he fell in love at all
But you might need this fool around in case you fall
After the party's over and you've had your fill of fun
If you need a fool to forgive you I know one

You never know you might be lonely when all your loves have missed
It wouldn't hurt to keep an extra fool on your list
After your heart's been broken and it needs a place to run
If you'll take a fool who loves you I know one hmm yes I know one hmm I know one

White Southerns, who were supposedly racist, were mostly the ones who bought the black singer's records and went to the concerts. So glad we did. Charley's songs are still a part of my memories. "Snakes Crawl at Night" is probably my favorite.

I was brought up on Charley. .Uncle Billy had every album.. I was 10 years old when we stayed with him waiting to move home. Every morning we woke up to Charley. Uncle Billy treated us to a box in Ipswich when I saw him for the first time..We went back stage to get an autograph.. as mum and uncle Billy were getting their brochures signed the press came in and took a photo. .I have these photos. .treasured memories.. I'm 55 this year.. and will never forget or stop playing Charley..Mum passed away in 2004 and the last thing she was listening to was Charley singing her favourite 'Crystal Chandaliers', whilst incoherent she raised her arms in satisfaction...'where shall I put her memory 'sends me every time especially the line about the hair pins and curlers. . I found loads under her bed...I get emotional but Charley has always been part of my life and always will

  54. S.... W....

wow, love all the songs he sings, did he write them too?

    S.... W....

Charley did not write the songs. Most of his "hits" were written by the team of Dallas Frazier and "Doodle " Owens. Also Ben Peters and Jack Clement. Charley Pride. Great singer, and the Pedal Steel never had a better friend.

    S.... W....

Lloyd Green ,one of the best, was on steel on most of Charley's songs.

    S.... W....

This was written by Jack Clement.

  55. a.... s....

Most don't know Charlie was a professional baseball player--he sang a couple songs at a banquet--all the other players said 'why are you playing ball"--he couldn't get a country music recording because he was black--Ernest Tubb gave him a break-one of the best

When I was young age kid, my father use to play 8-track on the stereo at home. I never really understood what the songs where all about but they just had this ring about them. His voice was like no other! I finally got to understand the lyrics to the song.. Charlie won me over. I am not from the south but from the New England area.. and my parents grew me up on county. I am glad Charlie Pride was around,. and I love hearing his voice.. Your songs are a joy to listen too.

    Thank you

    John L

That's what I love about classic country, it can be loved by anyone, anywhere. I'm proud to say at 21 and from the North as well (Pennsylvania) that this was the music I was raised on. All thanks to my late pap who listened to it due to trucking back in the 60s-80s. Anyways I remember when I was little we had 8-track at home as a collectors item so to speak. I'd play tapes for hours as we had a bunch of them. The first song I ever heard of Charley was from his debut album on 8-track: Detroit City.

  75. V.... P....

Charlie Pride is a great singer indeed, but if you want to hear the person whom was its master, I'd advise you listen to the songs originator (who Pride was honering), Jim Reeves..

    B.... D....

Yes Jim was a great singer , but Charley is just as good.

    B.... D....

Actually, Charley isn't the first. Take a look at Jim Reeves' version. His version predates Charley's by quite a few years. Take a listen, it's really good. :)

  96. P.... S....

It was great to see him here in Ireland, what a lovely voice and humble man. We loved the evening with him, to be in his presence was magic. Just hope he will return again. Love him and his music.
