Presley, Elvis - Tomorrow Is A Long Time Lyrics
If today was not endless highway
If tonight was not endless trail
If tomorrow wasn't such a long time
Then lonesome would mean nothing to me at all
If I could hear her heart softly pounding
Only she was lying by me
Then I'd lie in my bed once again
I can't see my reflection in the water
I can't speak the sounds that show no pain
I can't hear the echo of my footsteps
I can't remember the sound of my own name
Yes and only if my own true love was waiting
If only she was lying by me
Then I'd lie in my bed once again
There's beauty in the silver singing river
There's beauty in the sunrise in the sky
But none of these and nothing else could match the beauty
That I remember in my true love's eyes
Yes and only if my own true love was waiting
If I could hear her heart softly pounding
If only she was lying by me
Then I'd lie in my bed once again
If today was not an endless highway
If tonight was not endless trail
If tomorrow wasn't such a long time
Then lonesome would mean nothing to me at all
Yes and only if my own true love was waiting
If I could hear her heart softly pounding
If only she was lying by me
Then I'd lie in my bed once again

Presley, Elvis Tomorrow Is A Long Time Comments
There are few songs as beautiful as the voice of Elvis. Glad to hear him cover Dylan.
The only artist who is able to ruin every cover...................... plastic fake kitsch artist
This is entirely...THE MOST!!!!! WOWZA!!!!!
I found this by accident... the best mistake of my entire life.
I didnt want to like this but I do and if Bob's happy with it then it's fine by me..
A lot of singers touch the heart , only elvis touches the soul
I’ve listened to many covers of this beautiful song, but none of them have the sensitivity and yearning that’s in Elvis’ voice!
John Lennon said before elvis there was nothing I'll say after elvis there's been nothing, elvis the GOAT
John lennon died when he went into the army, that's when they castrated him, ELVIS the false King, plastic fake artist
100 SONGS COMPOSED BY DYLAN, AND SINGING BY ELVIS.....
100 NUMBER ONE IN THE WORLD....
NO DOUBT ABOUT IT
Oh my god
This song breaks my heart with how beautiful it is.
I first heard it thirty years ago, I don't know how I missed so many years before that without hearing it.
I guess I just don't get it. Bob Dylan himself loved this cover . . . but I still much prefer the Dylan version. Cheers to Elvis for giving Dylan his due, though.
Too bad Parker talked Elvis out of doing more Dylan songs.
It has a sun sessions feel about, apart from his voice sounding more mature.
Kitsch
ugly version
it did stink,
Harald Versteegden How can such a beautiful rendition be ugly with the sensitivity and yearning that Elvis brings to this beautiful song!
@Barry Griffin Elvis dead when he went into the army, that's were they castrated him !
Harald Versteegden How irrational that statement is!
@Barry Griffin no It's the truth
bravo elvis
Crooked trail...but hey...
He covers, interprets, and does exquisite justice to yet another amazing song by the master, though Bob would say the master is up there.
Elvis who could do a better job no one
Yes indeed
Like this one a lot, but best cover was done by the late Sandy Denny.
I've always thought Neil Diamond could do a great job on this one also.
I'm a big fan of Neil, too.
Elvis Elvis Elvis 💋💋💋 amazing 👏👏👏
The king FOREVER 👑👑👑 2019,2050,3000
Rod Stewart and Sandy Denny also did great versions of this song, but they were still nowhere near as good as this
Love Sandy's version...Rod's, hmmm. It's okay, does the job, ticks all the boxes. But this version, Oh man, this is special. Dylan's is still thee version. The weariness in his young voice. You can't fake that.
There's a huge reason why elvis is the king.
It's due to his critically acclaimed body of work in the recording studio.
The most diverse ever.
Anyone who doesn't understand that is a low IQ piece of shit
oh please
There's a lot of stupid maggots on the internet talking shit about the king.
But when an artist like elvis takes a bob dylan lyric and makes it better than Bob's vision?
THATS the mark of a king.
No artist living or dead has the soul and diversity of elvis.
I've studied this subject for over 40 years.
ANY fuckin questions?
get real, Elvis did nothing innovative, he copied many obscure black artist before him, he was white, good looking , had a style and a great voice and hit the scene at the right time. Today Elvis would be an after thought ,
When an artist like elvis Presley takes a dylan lyric and makes it better?
THAT'S called the king.
No artist has the soul and diversity of elvis Presley.
Any questions?
I study this subject for over 40 years.
Any questions?
I actually would like to ask you, what is the real story behind Elvis laughing at the live version of "are you lonesome tonight"?
Yes why are you so angry everyone has a right to their opinion Not everyone was a fan I love his beautiful voice but no need to get so angry
Elvis blues it up very different to Dylan's version
Who's playing lead guitar here? In any event, this was still when Elvis sounded great to me. I wasn't as big a fan when his voice changed toward the end of the '60s and into the '70s.
Say thank you to Odetta https://youtu.be/pOEPkRvpE2k
ON THE BASS, THE PLAYER IS...CHARLIE MCCOY ! REALLY !
Perfection...the sound of the real true Elvis. Happy birthday King E!
Can we just all agree this is the best song from 'Spinout' (1966)??
Blue Hawaii #1 Agreed, but the other studio masters such as ‘I’ll Remember you’ are nearly as good. Plus the movie schmaltz is alright, I like ‘Adam And Evil’ and ‘Stop, Look, and Listen’. Good drums on those tracks.
JGC You can't always determine what the best song is by saying what your favorite tracks are. You just gotta give the album some listens and then you're able to determine the best song. That's why I believe "Tommorow Is A Long Time" is the best track off Spinout.
This isbeautiful bluessy version. Beatiful.
Beautiful words , 🤗🤗
july 2018??
September 2018
Brilliant!
ELVIS WAS AND IS STILL MY MAN I LOVE VERY MUCH I LOVE HIS SWEET VOICE AND THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST SONG I HAVE HEARD
This shows what Elvis could do when he had good material. Just fantastic.
Had never heard this before. When I saw it, I laughed. Right,,, Elvis doing Dylan. Well,, I was pleasantly surprised!!
damn...
It’s almost unfair when EP covers a song. He takes it and makes it his own.
Yes, thats the kings magic
Agree with how it's a wonderful version but it comes from the gigantic heart of Dylan.
Mind you...this is really beautiful!!!!
Yes....incredible Elvis!
Lol, it was not even Elvis's cover of Dylan. Elvis copied Odetta Holmes' cover of this song.
This song was recorded on my birthday well I was born 2002 and im about to turn 16 on saturday May 26, 2018 just fate I guess that I started thinking about time and how short it is to spend with people and then I stumbled upon this song 3 days before my birthday just figuring out thats when it was recorded idk just strange
MAGNIFICO
I think Dion did the best cover of this song but that is not to denigrate this version. Elvis is Elvis and it's a great cover!. It would be hard for a great singer to mess up this song. This song is, well I don't have the words to convey my thoughts. There are no words strong enough to describe the beauty and brilliance of this song. I guess all you have to say is 'Bob Dylan'!
A great song, from a poet, sung by a great singer !!!
I have been listening to, and enjoying, Rod Stewart's interpretation of this Dylan chestnut for decades - but Elvis . . . . . Elvis takes it to an entirely different level - the beauty of this version simply floors me . . . .
You are completely right!
TOTALLY!!!!
Remember the king😎😎😎
Yes and onlyy if my own try love was waiting, thats what I m wating for
Worst cover possible..........Elvis the big Plastic Fake Cover boy..... ZUM KOTZEN...........soulless shit
Eigenartiger Mensch.... Aber jedem seine Meinung.
Love the way Elvis delivered this song...it is very beautiful and heartfelt...
Elvis just covered Odetta Holmes rendition of this BobDylan song.
Interesting. Still though ... :)
Amazing cover
Great, but listen to Dion's version, please.
This Swedish remake by the swedish band Nationalteatern is much better.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GEPrBb5VkE
I like this, but I prefer Rod Stewart's version.
kidding
I have both Rod's & Elvis's version, I'm biased because I'm a bigger Elvis fan than I am a Rod Stewart fan, BUT, not by that much, & his version is good too, they aren't the same sound so I almost like them equally.
Sing it Elvis sing it man. U did Bobs song proud.
Bob you're funny. ;+} But OH yeah.
Such a great voice. Would've been a better recording though, if it was closer to the original album version, rather than Odetta's cover of this song.
dylon remarked that this was his favorite version. dylon liked elvis and elvis very much liked dylon. dylon was proud that elvis covered his song and from whats documented this version was impressive and dylons favorite take. he felt it and made us feel it
11 people with no soul !
Nice ..wonderful find !
DE ESTA CANCION DE DYLAN EN REPETIDAS OCASIONES
HA DICHO QUE DE LAS QUE HA OIDO ESTA ES
LA MEJOR VERSION.
the best of all
The greatest songwriter of the 20th century combined with it's greatest singer. Incredible.
@Harald Versteegden Is that a joke?
Yes...very true
Dylan recieved the Nobel Prize for Literature....how many songwriters can claim that recognition
@RenzoM you are poop monkey, dylan bob very best
@Ryan Stepka I agree
Best singer yes Elvis.....best songwriter John Lennon.
Nothing can beat this cover. Elvis did it outstanding!!!
I think Rod Stewart's version is on par with this one.
Dylan and Elvis versions are the best to date so far
@Donnie Vick
Low IQ cocksucker.
Rod is nowhere near the king.
Perfect!
to remember
I can definitely understand why Dylan treasures this tune - Elvis does an outstanding job with it.
Actually what Dylan said was that it was the one cover of his that he treasured most. That could mean a lot of things. Elvis's vocals on his are truly beautiful. The only criticism I can make is in the mix, as the tambourine and bass are just a bit to forward in the mix and stand out over the guitar. The guitar is played exceptionally, but perhaps a little too well. That may seem odd but if you compare Dylan's playing on his 1963 live version that appears on his greatest hits volume two, it is much simpler there and in its gentleness is more appropriate. This version is a bit tangy. There is beauty in subtleness. jj
Dylan's is absolutely positively better. Elvis is singing it like a cover, nothing more. Not owning it in any way. Dylan's is better because original.
I kinda agree Joe. I love the vocal performance but I think if someone took the vocal track and married it up with a simpler guitar track, it would me much improved.
Tank Elvis for Nobel :Dylan was famous for excellent interpretations of Elvis ....Dylan exellent wrihter but voice not beatiful
Truly Wonderful
Bob's favorite cover of his work...I can see why~E
Amazing the amount of great songs that Dylan scrapped or left of his albums..
really a wonderful lonely difficult song -- about one of the finest ever written. Bob Dylan is genius here -- is this some kind of existential soliloquy? -- I put it in a class with "more than this" -- listen to them when I am wondering about what all of this life is about. And Elvis - never better than this.
Dylan was supposedly so overwhelmed by this cover that he thought it was the best cover anyone had ever done of him
and it was one of his most proud moments in his career to have Elvis cover one of his songs
Elvis was his biggest role model. So that only makes sense.
Brad rawsner Elvis certainly was a studio perfectionist. He blazed through 31 takes of ‘Hound Dog’ and 28 of ‘Don’t Be Cruel’. It took so long to cut those two they by the time they had finished a third recording the day was over. He once did something like 49 or 50 on ‘Doncha’ Think It’s Time’. That being said, he was an excellent performer (when he felt like it). There was nothing on stage like Elvis or anywhere else for that matter.
@jcalberta~ Well said, and so true about the caricature thing.
Lol, it was not even Elvis's cover of Dylan. Elvis covered Odetta Holmes' cover of this song.
Bob Dylan says this is his favorite cover version, of any of his songs. "The first time I heard Elvis Presely, it was like busting out of prison!"
Nothing matches the original. But this was alright
Dylan doesn't share your delusion
+Exposer O' Fraud Bob Dylan said he had never recorded it, so what was the "original"? :)
+João Archer Incredibly enough, Dylan has never recorded a formal studio recording of this amazing song. There's a demo version on "The Witmark Demos: 1962-1964" and a live version on "Greatest Hits Volume 2," but that's it. Sure seems weird that he'd let a great song like this slip through the studio cracks.
+DarthSiGi in The end of the 1st season of walking dead, the final song is dylan singing this
Y
The Outsiders? Yes? No? Anyone?
+Cynthia Hernandez Aye
Cynthia Hernandez yaaaaa!!!! Stay Gold!! 💛💛💛💛

Such a wonderful song ... and what a downright brilliant rendition by Elvis!
Only if she was lyin by me, Then Id lie in my bed once again. Words and music by Bob Dylan~*~Terrific Cover by Elvis

Americana at her level best ;->
God, how beautiful !
Never heard this b4...
Then listen to the rendition of John Winne ...
What an interesting recording. Never heard it before!
My favorite Elvis song, maybe my favorite period
@Frank M Sorry Frank, but this is a song of the best songwriter ever, namely Bob Dylan. However the cover of Elvis is according to Dylan himself one of the best covers of one of his songs
+Frank M Then possibly your fav Dylan song too. :)
Amazing cover, and I usually hate covers
I don't see how anyone could think this was a gospel song.
it was buried on the back of the Spinout album.
@Rossm3838 I know. It is one of my favorites. But it is not a gospel song.
It's folk. Blues
Hola amigos ! SUPER TEMA ! DISCOVER MY SUBLIME VERSION OF POR AMARTE ...UN FUERTE ABRAZO .JONPHIL MELODY

This is genius. Bob Dylan is so proud of this rendition and justifyably so....
Such "genius" to hide this as a bonus track....(sarcastic)
that was RCA not Elvis who buried this beautiful recording
@Rossm3838
Yes, and I meant the "genius" at RCA...or Parker? I know it was not Elvis' call.
was used to improve a very mediocre movie soundtrack album.
beautiful xxx
beautifull
Thanks. Glad you found it!
It is a Bob-penned song.
Dylan song?
