Presley, Elvis - That's All Right Lyrics

Well, that's all right now mama
That's all right with you
That's all right now mama, just anyway you do
That's all right, that's all right
That's all right now mama, anyway you do

My mama, she done told me, papa done told me too
"Son, that gal you're foolin' with
She ain't no good for you"
But that's all right now, that's all right
That's all right now mama, anyway you do

I'm leaving town, baby
I'm leaving town for sure
Well, then you won't be bothered with me hanging 'round your door
Well, that's all right, that's all right
That's all right now mama, anyway you do

That's all right, that's all right
That's all right now mama, anyway you do
Well, that's all right now mama, anyway you do

When Elvis sang this song, no one though that it would bring dozens of new music genres

  69. e.... j....

this was july '55, the same time maybelline was released. It was a regional hit in the south around memphis. chuck Berry recorded in chicago and got more exposure.
Never the less, I still hold to my hypothesis that the opening guitar riff of maybelline was ....."the big bang" of rock and roll.

Birth of Elvis, birth of Rockabilly.

    M.... M....

Marco Medrano " The Maddox Brothers and Rose were at "the leading edge of rockabilly with the slapped bass that Fred Maddox had developed".[15][16]Maddox said, "You've got to have somethin' they can tap their foot, or dance to, or to make 'em feel it." elele in the comments there was many others... just Google origins of rockabilly.

    M.... M....

Very, very interesting stuff. I stand corrected. Thank you very much for sharing. The Maddox Brothers and Rose developed a very cool sound, sort of country with a hop. You can hear the influence it had on Elvis, Carl Perkins, as well as Hank Williams.

    M.... M....

Devin, ELVIS gave birth to ROCK A BILLY. Carl Perkins added to it. Well, the MADDOX BROTHERS and ROSE never had a hit. THAT'S ALRIGHT was the SHOT heard around the world.

    M.... M....

Ok rock a Billy, not rock n roll...He was just more visible and acceptable for obvious reasons.

    M.... M....

    Birth of rockabilly?

Correction: Birth of Elvis, birth of MAINSTREAM MUSIC.

    p.... k....

Everyone was still in shock from the war. Elvis walking into Sun Records ENDED that shock and changed the world. He is the BIG BANG of modern popular culture. It all goes back to him. <> THE KING FOREVER <>

    J.... H....

2015+ what happened to music after this year?

  86. v.... ....

This song started it all. A legend was born.

    v.... ....

@Devin Baur not according to Arthur Crudup, the writer and original performer. He was well compensated, given full credit by Elvis and even praised Elvis and his version.
Millions of singers record the songs of other writers and performers. That doesn't make them a thief.

    v.... ....

@Devin Baur False. The recording of Elvis That's Alright has Arthur Crudup listed as the composer of the song. The white british rockers did nothing for black musicians. Black musicians were the ones that moved away from blues because of motown and soul music. To say that Elvis stole black music and the white british rockers didn't it's ignorance. The white british rockers were inspired by elvis and his white peers to make music. They knew that Elvis loved black music so they began to explore black music because Elvis was doing it. Elvis always said that the blacks invented rock n roll and it was called rhythm and blues.

    v.... ....

@Devin Baur Elvis came before Chuck Berry. His recordings started in 1954 and Chuck's recordings started in 1955. Elvis and Chuck didn't create rock n roll. Neither did Little Richard. The ones that invented rock n roll were the Black rhythm and blues musicians from the late 40s that started to used words rock or rock n roll in their songs. Artists like Louis Jordan, Wynonie Harris, Big Joe Turner, Chris Powell, Roy Brown and others invented rock n roll. Rock n roll was popular in the black charts in 1949. It was derived from jump blues. Rock n roll was a sub-genre of rhythm and blues in 1949. Black rock n roll songs from 1949 used the words rock or rock n roll. These terms meant to describe sex or acting wild. At that time in 1949, only a few critics called the music to be rock n roll but for most of the part it was being labeled as rhythm and blues or if not, jump blues. Rhythm and blues meant black music but it had different sounds and styles. Rock n roll was one of those sounds from rhythm and blues. Whites didn't steal rock n roll. Elvis and his band were guitars/bass/drums format, something that black rock n roll didn't had. Black rock n roll was saxophone, piano, guitar, bass, and drums. The lead instrument was the saxophone. Also white rock n roll had country influences and pop influences.
