Presley, Elvis - My Happiness Lyrics

Evening shadows make me blue
When each weary day is through
How I long to be with you
My happiness

Every day I reminesce
Dreaming of your tender kiss
Always thinking how I miss
My happiness

A million years it seems
Have gone by since we shared our dreams
But I'll hold you again
There'll be no blue memories then

Whether skies are grey or blue
Any place on earth will do
Just as long as I'm with you
My happiness

A million years it seems
Have gone by since we shared our dreams
But I'll hold you again
There'll be no blue memories then

Whether skies are grey or blue
Any place on earth will do
Just as long as I'm with you
My happiness

My Happiness and That's When Your Heartaches Begin. The first 2 songs recorded by Elvis at Sun records. When the receptionist, Marion Peisker, asked Elvis what kind of music he sang, Elvis said "I sing all kinds". Marion then asked Elvis, who do you sound like? Elvis replied "I don't sound like nobody"....The fact is NOBODY sounds like Elvis. "How do I describe Elvis? The greatest that ever was, or ever will be!" - Chuck Berry

Even this raw recording has the unique style and depth of tone and quality of his voice - he meant every word he sang for his mum. God bless Elvis.N.

Not bad for a first recording. This kid has definite commercial potential.

Listening to this makes me so emotional. You can instantly hear it's Elvis, but obviously less refined and less confident. Gives me goosebumps and I nearly feel like crying. Sounds like he was from another world. There was magic in his voice, even then. He really didn't sound like anyone else.

  11. S.... M....

Elvis Presley recorded this sad song for his mom he loved her more then anyone I believe ecept for God Priscilla a Lisa.

A real good Male version of this song. Both are beautiful songs from two equally Stunning looking humans.

A shy 18-year old kid walks into a small recording studio to sing a couple songs and walk home with a real-life record. How might the world of music be different if he was too shy to make that big leap of faith in himself.

Actually he didn't go home that day, untill late that evening. Then without the record...
He took the record and met up with a friend of him, and went to this friends grandmother, who had a record player, something the Presleys didn't own at that time. They were too poor... Then they played the record several times, on both sides, I guess, until it was time for Elvis to go home. He left without the record.

The record was not found again, until this grandmother died, and the family found the record in the belongings of her... This was in the middle of the 80s... :)

Music history was found, and released first time in 1990... :-)

In January 2015, an online bidder won an auction for Elvis's first recording —an acetate of the two cover songs:
"My Happiness" and "That's When Your Heartaches Begin"...... The buyer was singer/guitarist Jack White. He paid $300,000.
The vinyl record was recorded at SUN Records in Memphis in the summer of 1953 when Elvis was just 18 years old.

One of the things that’s so priceless about this recording, is that you can tell it was done before Elvis found his niche/ his own sound. He sounds SOOOO different, yet if u listen close enough you can hear the real him pounding away, getting rid of the excess layer, and emerging into the artist that defined him as the “king of rock and roll “

its well done and not a inferior elvis song. he probably did not do it as a present but did it to get noticed in a professional studio they say. he was on the make. he thought he was a good singer. he was.

  52. S.... M....

He recorded this song for his mom a her birthday he adored her like no one else. ,,,,,,,after he lost her he to got lost many yrs on a Roller coaster ride w the cornel Hollywood and Las Vegas but he never really fitted in w any of them he was different a felt different a disconnected w everyone around him ,,, ,,,I believe he was only really connected w God. but I believe he felt to he was letting God down being a wordly star I believe Elvis always regretted not being a gosple wideworld singer like his mom wanted him to be I believe he was always wondering just where he fitted in ,, in God's plan I believe he had so many questions w no answers. that plague his heart a soul. but I believe later on in life he found his peace w God.

    S.... M....

@Sandra Miller Sorry, but that birthday story is just a myth. A nice story, but not the truth...

Elvis visited Sun Records, probably July 18th, for recording two songs during a lunch break.

He recorded My Happiness and That's When Your Heartache Begin, but it was never intended to be a birthday gift for his mother. Because Gladys had her birthday in April, while Elvis recorded his songs in the summer/early autum...

Another evidence for this not being a present for his mother, is the fact that when he had finished the recordings, he took the record with him to his friend, Ed Leek, and they visited Eds grandmother, who had a record player. There they played the record, I guess both sides, that afternoon, and when they didn't want to listen anymore, Elvis left the house and went home - without the record.

As far as we know, Gladys never heard this record. Because the family was too poor to buy a record player.

When the grandmother died in the mid 80s, Ed and the other familiy should clean up in the house. Then he found the record that him and Elvis played 30 years earlier... It was in the collection of his grandmother all that time... Later, around 5 years later, RCA could surprise all with including My Happiness in the The Great Performances release in 1990.

I think this was the only song Elvis ever wrote - My Happiness - for his mother. All his other songs were written by others. That is a little odd. But I guess until you have lived, how can you write about that man-woman thing? .. Don't be cruel, to a heart that's true... but if you think about the lyrics... he messed up badly, and is telling her, she is doing wrong...

    K.... K....

@Kelly KitKat No, he did not write this song. It was Betty Peterson Blasco who wrote the song in 1947...
Or as it states in the information above: Borney Bergantine, Betty Peterson Blasco

    K.... K....

    @Tommy Stormo
    You are 100% correct.
The son of Betty Peterson Blasco is on this site and commented that his mother wrote the lyrics for My Happiness.
Elvis is quoted somewhere where he says:
"I've never written a song in my life"
I think he did have something to do with the revised lyrics to "One Night With You" though, because the original lyrics were considered too sexually suggestive.
There is a bootlegged copy of him singing "One Night Of Sin", which was the original.

    K.... K....

Yes, of course! Always promoting the truth as far as I have checked... ;-D

Well, Elvis never wrote a song of his own, but he is actually credited for two songs where he was involved...
He gave the title That's Someone You Never Forget (maybe thinking of his mother) to Red West, who wrote the song to Pot Luck.
    194 m2ww 0858-8 That's Someone You Never Forget (POL62) 25.06.61 NAS 2:48 OL West/Presley

How much of You'll Be Gone Elvis actually wrote lyrics or music to, I guess nobody alive can answer about, but he is credited to that song also, and has done more than the title... Red West and Charlie Hodge wrote the most, I guess...
    275 n2ww 0691-3 You'll Be Gone S-46 18.03.62 NAS OS West/Presley/Hodge

One Night of Sin is found on several official releases, and the first time was in 1983, on A Legendary Performer vol. 3. Then Reconsider Baby from 1985, The Complete 50s Masters and Loving You 1997...

    97 npa5 5820-1 One Night Of Sin (TC5000) 18.01.57 HRR 2:35

    K.... K....

    @Tommy Stormo
Yes, I think he actually did write some of the lyrics to "One Night With You" because they did not want him to release "One Night Of Sin", but he liked the song, and therefore made some changes to make the song more "morally" palatable to the more repressive culture of the day.
Elvis was not going around trying to claim credit for writing lyrics.
He was happy to just put his heart and soul into the interpretations.

    K.... K....

@Claudia parish Sorry, but he didn't write anything of the new One Night, as far as anybody know. In the books it is stated that the song was rewritten by others, and presented for Elvis in studio, Feb. 23th 1957...
It wasn't him who wanted to do something with the original lyrics (recorded in Jan. 15-18th 1957), but as you can hear on the take of that song the band wasn't up to it, even though Elvis was. All this is written about in Ernest Jorgensens book: "Elvis Presley - A life in music".
It was also considered for the movie Loving You, but the new version was taken out and used for a single release instead.

Hank Williams died the year this was recorded, coincidence? YEP

    M.... ....

I was just thinking the same thing..

I was born in 64 but Hank Williams has been my idol since I was 3 or 4. I didn't even know he died 11 years before I was ever born until the age of 10 as no one had ever told me. They all knew I loved his music, I would sing it all the time, even at a very young age. I use too dreamed of meeting Hank one day, all throughout my adolescents. I went to see the movie "Your Cheating Heart" at a cheap movie theater that would play older movies on the big screen when I was 10 in 74 and at the end of the movie, he died. By then he would have been dead for 21 years. I was shattered for a longtime after that and felt cheated and lied too. The funny thing is is that the movie "Your Cheating Heart" came out the year I was born. My dad and all of his 12 brothers were huge Elvis fans as they were teenagers and young men when Elvis hit the airways. I love Elvis as well but Hank will always be number 1 in my book.

Anyway, this song is sung so beautifully by Elvis that it brought tears to my eyes. A few of his songs do that too me just as many of Hank's do.

For $4, Presley was able to leave the studio with an acetate copy of the 78 RPM record, meant as a gift for his mother Gladys. But, as the story goes, Presley stopped by a friend's house to listen to the recording and left it there. The Presley family did not have a record player, according to Elvis Presley Enterprises, which operates Graceland.

Why? I think dyed them as well. Here he when he was 13. No eyebrows!..........https://i.pinimg.com/736x/ac/08/f1/ac08f18bdecb429d1cfc1d71858757a4--young-elvis-elvis-presley.jpg
