Presley, Elvis - Milkcow Blues Boogie Lyrics

Well, I woke up this morning,
And I looked out the door.
I can tell that old milk cow
By the way she lowed.

Hold it fellows, that don't move me.
Let's get real, real gone for a change.

Well, I woke up this morning
And I looked out the door
I can tell that that old milk cow
I can tell the way she lowed.

Well, if you've seen my milk cow,
Please ride her on home.
I ain't had no milk or butter
Since that cow's been gone.

Well, I tried to treat you right,
Day by day.
Get out your little prayer book
Get down on your knees and pray.
For you're gonna need,
You're gonna need
your loving daddy's help someday.
Well, then you're gonna be sorry
For treating me this way.
Well, believe me, don't that sun
look good going down?
Well, believe me, don't that sun
look good going down?
Well, don't that old moon look lonesome
When your baby's not around.

Well, I tried everything to
get along with you.
I'm gonna tell you what I'm going do.
I'm gonna quit my crying,
I'm gonna leave you alone.
If you don't believe I'm leaving,
you can count the days I'm gone.
I'm gonna leave.
You're gonna need your
loving daddy's help someday.

Well, you're gonna be sorry
You treated me this way.

This was 1956??!!! What was the world doing before this?? Thank god for Elvis Presley and Scotty Moore!!!

  2. F.... M....

Him on his rockabilly style at it's best

  3. M.... W....

    😎👊🇺🇸2️⃣0️⃣1️⃣9️⃣

  4. F.... ....

This recording is a showcase of Elvis' skills to sing black riffs and runs (1:01 1:36 1:50 2:21). It is the echo of all the gospel and rythm & blues he had listened to. A white kid singing like this must have been pretty irritating in those days of race segregation. Thank God Elvis did't care and just did what he felt to do.

  5. s.... ....

    i'm gonna leeeeaaaaaaave!

    Got damn 🙌

  14. b.... s....

was clear that stolen from Robert Johnson's song by some how ..then ppl call him king!!

    b.... s....

Milkcow Blues is an ancient theme that has been interpreted by countless artists. The Presley version sounds nothing like Robert Johnson's version. I doubt Elvis knew who Robert Johnson was when this was recorded.

    b.... s....

Don't get me wrong, bro, the Robert Johnson record is cool...maybe he borrowed his version from Kokomo Arnold and Charlie Patton. Great artists borrow from other great artists to do their own thing. God only knows who "wrote" Milkcow Blues.

  15. A.... S....

    Let’s milk it

  16. N.... G....

Elvis is always on my mind, love how he sang this song, and nobody can do what Scotty can do with the guitar.

  17. V.... ....

Carl Perkins, "Everybody has their own idea of what rock and roll is. But make no mistake, the very first time anyone did anything that can be called "rockabilly" was when Elvis, Scotty, and the boys started playing together"

  21. P.... O....

I dont sound like nobody ma'am elvis said. Whoever said elvis didnt invent rock and roll got to be crazy it all came together right here this is the birth of something new before or since nothings been so organically real and mysterious his voice is past present and future

  22. D.... ....

I`m crazy about his crazy energy:))) God, I want him alive!!! Thanks so much for sharing!

'Never heard this song before. 'Never knew it even existed..but I like it..😁.

  29. T.... C....

    ..and this is a out a COW..right?!...😏..I'm confused.. 😄.

  30. T.... T....

    Louisana Hayride Recording..

Hard to believe this is a remade Robert Johnson song

    T.... T....

That's because it's not. There is a similar title. The first to do a version of this was Kokomo Arnold, who was given writer's credit. It actually pulls from the Wills family's "Brain Cloudy Blues," a Western Swing number that Elvis brought back to the blues, then hopped it up.

  31. P.... J....

A great King of Western Swing , Bob Wills tune....rocked by the King of Rock n Roll

  32. R.... H....

At nineteen, Elvis could do things with his voice even ventriloquists couldn't do. The Sun years were historical and unmatched. By far the most electrifying singer ever.

  33. G.... H....

There's nobody can play a guitar like Scotty Moore

  34. S.... ....

    REMEMBER THE KING

  35. M.... S....

Check out Mary Lou by the Creative Force, amazing

  36. L.... C....

God dammit, this is by far the best version of this song. They fueled it with drive, wittiness, a great rythm and amazing singing perfomance. It just hurts to see Elvis could only give us a percentage of his huge talent during his lifetime. How much more could have been if catholic stigma, bad management, the army and pills had not broken his soul.
I look forward to find out after life ends.

  37. G.... T....

    No drums boys and girls

  38. L.... ....

Think of it: ELvis was a beginner, only 21, singing this blues song, a perfect natural talent, beyond compare.

    L.... ....

Elvis is only 19 years old on this.

  39. G.... L....

    Elvis '54 to '58 ... the best!

  40. J.... M....

Good music many thanks for all artists and their music it's many memories for a old Rockn roller👍👏❤️

  41. N.... W....

one cool song Elvis Presley - Milkcow Blues Boogie (1955) love this song so much

  42. D.... H....

Sorry for misspelling the word may, I had spelled Jay by mistake. I get carried away when quote a lot when I talk about Elvis. 😆

  43. D.... H....

Thanks Mr AP, for sharing this song and video with all who love Elvis I have not heard this song before, but it awesome. Elvis knew just how to make the song sound just like he wanted it to. He could take any song he liked and make it his own. His voice was a little bit higher in his younger days but it just showed me what a really talented and beautiful singer he was then and through out the years of his career. It is just still so overwhelming to me that he passed on way too soon. Elvis cared about everybody, always wanted to help the less fortunate. Although I believe that some people took advantage of his kindness and generosity. I know that some people might be tired of hearing this; but I still believe that even though the Colonel did a lot in getting Elvis ' s concerts booked, and TV shows and etc. , but I feel that the Colonel knew how far he could go with Elvis, and when he saw an opportunity to take more than he should, he went for it. Financially, emotionally ( one thing by not allowing Elvis to perform in other countries; the colonel was in America illegally and was afraid he'd get caught and not be able to return to the states. At least that is one theory I have heard. I just think he would have been happier and more satisfied with his life and career if he had never been introduced to Colonel Parker. No one realized it at the time, but his life may have turned out much differently if he'd had a manager that cared more about what Elvis wanted. Joe Esposito gave the Colonel too much credit in an interview I saw . Anyway some of you Jay disagree with me and that's ok, I just want to enjoy the love and laughter he brings into my daily life. He will always be important to me and I thank my parents every day ( even tho they have both passed on) for making sure that I would grow up knowing who Elvis was. Thank you Elvis for always making my days a lot brighter. XOXO

    Incredible performance!!!!!

  64. p.... d....

This is hands down my fave Sun-era track. It defines rockabilly. Scotty Moore was a genius.

    p.... d....

Try adding Elvis' vocals into the "genius" category AND he's playing rhythm geetar AND HE'S the one who improvised the slow beginning and made it into the rocking version that it is!!!!!!!!!

    p.... d....

@elvicare35 True, but Elvis wouldn't have made it as big without Scotty Moore, one of the very best guitarists to ever grace the face of the earth.

  65. T.... ....

    awesome

  66. V.... K....

    20 lety Elvis - skvělé !

  67. R.... 6....

Music back then: Wonderful. Music today: What a shithole it has become.

    R.... 6....

You're absolutely right. After the 50s ended there was nothing but leftover life to live.

    R.... 6....

@Len Gasparini "after the 50s". Are you kidding? Dude Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Waylon Jennings, George Straight, George Jones. And soooo much more

  68. B.... L....

Elvis was my mom's favourite singer, I had no choice but to love his music :3 and I'm glad I do

"You don't want a girl you want a milk cow"
    -Milton berle
hahaha best comment ever great song

    T.... P....

He said "you want a Milltown." That was a popular tranquilizer in the 1950s, predating Valium by about 15 years or so. Elvis had said he wanted a relaxing evening with a girl, to which Uncle Miltie replied "you don't want a girl; you want a Milltown."

  71. B.... D....

This is where Elvis invented White Rock and Roll just a few years after Little Richard invented Black Rock as an extension of race music.- Really!. An incredible moment in history.

    B.... D....

@Paula Jungmann Wills is being a bit disingenuous. His records are fiddle-laden and really don't have the rhythm. "Corny" can be taken quite literally with Western Swing records. No doubt a big influence on Elvis as it was filled with material. But Elvis made it into something else entirely!

    B.... D....

@Paula Jungmann I respect Western Swing, but it don't MOVE me! 😉

    B.... D....

@Robin Markowitz I love all music....but....I wouldn't say ever that it doesn't move me...

    B.... D....

@Paula Jungmann I was quoting Elvis in the famous opening of THIS song. 😊

Give it another listen; Elvis said it before I was born.

    B.... D....

@Paula Jungmann Just listened to Bobs...it's basic country rhythm basic country sounding just basic....you do realize Elvis is being the rhythm with his vocals?....this "moves" better imo

  72. T.... ....

Watched Elvis, Scotty & Bill perform this live at the Clarksdale Mississippi Auditorium on January 12 or March 5,1955. Not sure which performance. I bought 4 tickets, took a date, her sister and sister's boyfriend. That launched us as fans.

  81. F.... B....

Yes. USA sound. We Americans (U.S) have a bad habbit of calling the U.S culture American.

    F.... B....

the music has no color, race, religion, country, time, space, etc... It belongs to the world

  82. L.... G....

    The one and only King!

  83. M.... I....

    let's get gone

  84. R.... M....

An old guy once told me early Elvis sounds like he was lean and hungry. Perfect. Great read of early blues by Kokomo Arnold.

  85. J.... R....

This recording is little-known because the Colonel (Tom Parker, Elvis's manager) suppressed it along with all his early singles. Why? By the '60s Elvis was watered down and commercialized, and those who managed his transition to "respectability" didn't want fans hearing the undiluted bad boy who drove America wild in the mid-50s.

    J.... R....

Col Parker makes a convenient villain in the Elvis story, and rightfully so. Having said that, this record was in the rear view mirror once Parker came into the picture. Elvis performed a number of the Sun sides ('Mystery Train" and "That's All Right") in concert until his death...this wasn't one of them. Why? Artist's choice.

  86. D.... S....

    better than 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s

rockabilly is the best music genre without any doubt.

    D.... S....

There is no better sound than RockabIlly sung by a Jesus loving, America loving, American. It is an exclusive American sound.

    D.... S....

YES MAN YES WAY MORE BETTER

    D.... S....

+Fredy Burgos you meant US sound, cause america is a CONTINENT, love rockabilly sound better than all

    D.... S....

Because the 1950s was when America was at the height of Americana.

    D.... S....

"rockabilly" ...? It's Western Swing. Look closely at the costumes and guitars.
Besides, the Dance Halls they played on the road ? You can't dance to Hank Williams.
At this time in music, they were playing what the crowd wanted to hear. Any old dance hall for a buck or two.

  87. c.... ....

They didn't call him the King for nothing, loved his music so much. We grew up with Elvis, Jerry Lee and the best of the best musicians, also The Platters, The Supremes, no end to the talent and the rhythm they bought to us. Many artists too numerous to mention.

  88. E.... E....

i LOVE THIS EARLY ROCKABILLY MUSIC HE USED!

  89. J.... V....

    Beautiful

  90. b.... ....

i am real gone on Elvis, love it,thank you

  91. R.... A....

AWESOME, THIS KICKS ASS, LONG LIVE THE KING..............ALWAYS ELVIS

  92. v.... b....

brill great country music by  the King never forgotten

  93. e.... p....

Darn I didn't like this tune,  the flip was so much better, but they never charted,  Mister Phillips had a hard head.

    e.... p....

elvis presley no chance this was the better song by a long shot

  94. C.... ....

I'm no expert, but the richness of his voice here is amazing, going effortlessy from low notes to falsetto. Great slideshow too!

    C.... ....

    perfectly said like perfectly sung.
