Prefab Sprout - Couldn't Bear To Be Special Lyrics

Bo, bo-bee, bo-bee, bo
Bo, bo-bee, bo-bee, bo

I couldn't bear to be special
I couldn't bear
Couldn't bear
I couldn't bear
Right?

Bo, bo-bee, bo-bee, bo

So, don't look at me and say
That I'm the very one
Who makes the cornball things occur
The shiver of the fur

Don't expect so much of me
I'm just an also-ran
There's a mile between the way you see me
And the way I am
So don't stare at me that way
Of course it gives me pride
But I won't take on the risk
Of letting down the sweet, sweet side
Did you mean to humble me?
So you did it unsuspectingly
Oh words are trains
For moving past what really has no name

Bo, bo-bee, bo-bee, bo
Bo, bo-bee, bo-bee, bo

I couldn't bear to be special
I couldn't bear
Couldn't bear

So don't look at me and say
That I'm the very one
Who makes the cornball things occur
The shiver of the fur
Right?

Boo, ba-bah
Boo-boo, ba-bah
Boo-boo...

So don't look at me and say that I'm the very one, who makes the cornball things occur, the shiver of the fur.
First time I heard this lyric, let alone the bo-bees, I knew there was a very special lyrical talent at work.

  8. Gary Rutland

Words are trains for moving past.................brilliant.

  9. Martin Gerup

Paddys songs are about to rise everywhere; Norrbottens Bigband has made an instrumental version of this song.

  10. Alan Burrall

the weirdest beautiful song ever written

  11. vikingfortiesfaeroes

A good song, but who was it who thought it'd make a better single than something like Technique?!

  12. Simon Ford

Heard a bit from Paddy on R4 today and I went straight back to my favourite track ever. Of course I will endorse the new P, but I also love the legacy

  13. Canning Parkway

I was introduced to Prefab Sprout by a mate when we were young squaddies in Germany in 1985. Loved it immediately & still do. Epic!

  14. Arthur Adamson

Just a stunningly beautiful song. Haunting sounds that seem to penetrate my soul. If I ever was lucky enough to meet Paddy McAloon I think I would actually struggle to tell him just how much his music has meant to me over the years. His enormous talent makes me feel inferior but at the same time grateful that I was around when he was. Outstanding !

He couldn't be more special if he tried
