Porcupine Tree - Gravity Eyelids Lyrics

Open your eyes now
Hear me out before I lose my mind
I've been waiting for hours
Let the salt flow, feel my coil unwind

Give me a smile please
Count the calm and watch my breathing slow
Winding me up tease
Get inside my head and make it show

Gravity eyelids come down

Touching your oil skin
Slipping hands down past your waist to find
I've been waiting for hours
Let the salt flow, feel my coil unwind
Go to the edge swim
Brown the eyes that sleep has rendered blind

Gravity eyelids come down
Come love so young with your gold arms so I wake her
Here's a will that will glow in the dark

Porcupine Tree Gravity Eyelids Comments
  1. Martine Heuff

This could possibly be PT best ever song. Spooky, atmospheric build up to a nasty riff which leads to a kind of sound overdrive. Unfortunately never seen it performed live.

  2. OEMR

I heard straight up opeth at 5:15, love both bands and Mister Musician/Producer Wilson

  3. Jessica Hayden

Never even heard of them before. Just discovered them. Really liking them!

  4. Ben Cisco's World of Music

This was a great band. And I don't use the word "great" very often.

  5. javier gonzalez

este tema es impresionante lo tiene todo

  6. Gourav Choudhary

7:05 to 7:15 ohhhh my god

  7. TheOldPatches

3:42 that part sounds like Silent Hill

  8. javier gonzalez

  11. Ken Jones

You listen to other superb prog and think it’s great and then you rethink what’s great when you hear this. Prog at its very best.

  12. Nathan Jones

  17. Mike Watkins

MAN I miss these guys. special band

  18. h6ss4

The chord progression doesn't need that much of death metal to it to sound insanely aggressive. One of the best musical pieces to do workout with. *****

  19. Rich Campus

    Overwhelmingly good ♥♩♥♩♥♩♣

  20. Mayur Kulkarni

OMFG Steven Wilson is the fucking Leonhard Euler of music theory, Artists these days are not even an iota compared to what he is. This guy should have a billion views

  21. DukeofHazard11

Am i the only one who at 5:15, starts hearing something that sounds like the outro to Opeth's Leper Affinity?

    Josh Turk

Yes, opeth got alot of their sound from porcupine tree I hear it all the time in their songs

    Léo Lavoine

@Josh Turk In Absentia and this song were made in 2002, after Leper Affinity (which is from the album Blackwater Park made in 2001). They both influence theirselves i guess

  22. Jenahnanah

38 people have no clue about what real music is all about 🤔

  23. Ivan Ponce

La mejor banda de los últimos tiempos,un agrado para los oídos ,el mejor rock alternativo, excelente por siempre

  24. Lloyd Anderson

Saw this band on their Deadwing album tour. They played this song and nailed it. I had no idea they were going to play it.

  25. VirtualAdept777

I love this song, it's so dark, I imagine a city full of magic and horrors.

    Christopher Mallory

most probably in my Top10 of all SW 's fantastic and wonderful work . No , wait , in my Top5... wait , probably better even ... Love it , sends me through another universe ... falling into something a bit crazy, strange , uncanny, ominous, EERIE ,yet beautiful ... some addicting travel to SOMEWHERE ELSE ... arriving NOT here ;)

  32. La Tortue PGM

i have a mechanical animals feel with this song for some reason.

  33. portat guevara

  42. Prosciutto_X

Finally a Porcupine Tree song I can relate to.

    Short Tom

Prosciutto_X you relate to a song about molestation?

  43. dannysmile

BLACKWATER PARK II - OPETH !!!! Only needs M.Akerfeldt voice or growls

    daniela lls

dannysmile what are you talking about?

    Carlos Gallegos

Mikael, the singer and lead guitarist from Opeth, is a very close friend with Steven Wilson, and Steven has produced some of their albums. For that, Opeth has a Steven Wilson-esque vibe sometimes

  44. Richard Robbins

Where did he get those chords - gravity eyelids - awesome harmonic perfection!

  45. Vijay Narayan

4:02 is the main riff of Open Car :D

  46. Dagmar Feil

hört euch mal coma divine life 1999 an mein favorit "radio aktiv toy" grad zir heutigen zeit

  47. q̵͑͜w̴̢̅e̵͖͐ŕ̵͙t̴̪̎y̶̻̋u̷͍͠ï̷̤o̷̲͐p̴͈̀a̴̘͛s̸̨͑d̷͠ͅm̷͍̅ k̴͖̔l̶̰̆z̶̘̀ẍ̵͓c̸̩̿v̵͙͝ḇ̵̀ṇ̵̕m̷͍̅

    tracey bolden

And then the cool down 5:56 and that sweet ending with the background softly singing...chills

    kiwi9147

    I get the CHILLS ...
    Every time!

  48. Rick Leo

    that fucking fill (6:14)

  49. Twan Roijmans

I heard this song for the first time on an internet radio station called aural moon about 10 years ago. The song impressed me so much I bought the In Absentia album in a heartbeat. Ended up buying all the Porcupine Tree albums and that of his "solo" career. Steven Wilson and those involved in his projects makes the kind of music that I searched for all my life. I do listen to other bands. But with Steven you are guaranteed quality material. This song will always be a favorite of mine. Because it introduced me to true musicianship.

    DeaFX

i have the exact same relation to Sound of Muzak :)

    Myrto H

    same for anesthetize!

    Krestian Kvart

Twan Roijmans right on the money, i would add Alice in chains to that list.

    Mike Ashe

Similar story. About 12 years ago. I heard Gravity Eyelids on a local university radio show. Bought the album two days later, and have since picked up every PT album out there and SW's solo works. Instant addiction and it's been wonderful.

    Mike Reiss

Aural Moon is one of the best prog internet radio stations. I'm on there almost all the time(Mike413 on there) and have listened to it for at least the past ten years. These days hearing PT on there would be like hearing the Beatles on the radio. Very super well known obvious band to those in the know(ie prog fans) but others may or may not know them.

  50. Alex Knight

5:12 I just fucking love that part!

    tracey bolden

    OMG YES!

    Jenahnanah

    Alex Knight
    😵 Fuuuuuuuck 🎶🖤😵

    DeaFX

the part directly after too <3 top

    Noya Volovsky

Alex Knight so listen to Opeth - the leper affinity

    Alex Knight

Noya Volovsky I have heard of that song, and yes I've heard of that part too, but to me this part is better.

  51. a koc

that beginning melody has a nine inch nails-fragile vibe. And I love it...

    nanderv

Steven Wilson is a Nine Inch Nails fan, so that may well be possible.

  52. Kevin Rochford

This sounds like it belongs to one of SW solo albums.

    Michael Edwards

There'd be a trillion more instruments used if it was lol

    Toprak

Steven Wilson's solo albums never sound as bad-ass as 4:02

  53. Kevin Rochford

This sounds like it belongs to one of SW solo albums.

    Mike Watkins

WAY better than his solo stuff

  54. ZeugmaPowa

"Open car" on Deadwing reminds me of the guitar at 4:03

  55. dgvtx82

There is an Opeth song that has the same outro at the 5:12 mark to about 6:00, and its bothering the crap out of me that I cant figure it out!

    dgvtx82

    +dgvtx82 Leper Affinity at 8:00

    RS Music

    +dgvtx82 Face of Melinda?

    Michael Edwards

Well, SW and MA are good friends and may have purposely did that.

    Sushovan Shakya

    5:12 Leper Affinity
    6:00 Bleak

I still am not sure about this

    James Missen

    Leper affinity for sure

  56. fooldeth

Sounds right out of one of the SW solo albums. Reminds me of Index.

  57. Baptiste De Latte

The drum fill at 6:16 is wonderfull, i'd love to play it, and i'm sure if I learn it, it will never sounds like this... Gavin Harrison has something unique in his playing...

    Baptiste De Latte

@halcyon289 Hi, I'm fine thanks! Ok then I will check his YouTube channel! Nice way to meet people! I hope my English is not too bad, I'm French even though I understand most of what I read I have not that big of a vocabulary... But I will try to speak with him, it might be fun! Thanks again!

    thevoxmuse

Wish* that will glow in the dark 👀

  62. Saqam Hormusz

That Star-Wars-like keyboarding at 5:06-5:12 is just pure genius.
I think it's never easy to exploit mere electronic soundings into such a beautiful melody. Kudos to Richard Barbieri, kudos to Steven Wilson and whomever had a hand in the song's composition.

  63. Kropotkins Beard

The riff in the middle is fooking sexy.

  64. schpleeb

Easily my favourite PT song, and album.

  65. Darryl R

The guitar riff at 4:20 .....mindblowing

    FerretOverlord

+Darryl R I'm losing my mind that riff is so insane

    Florian dao nyuyen

This riff is just lit as fuck

    Big Chungus

    Appropriate time! 😎

    Andrei White

    BLAZE IT

  66. Jared Arbizu

Such a bone-chilling song. Gives me the creeps every time. The worst part is I don't know whether to be severely freaked out by it, or a little turned on by it (his voice just soothes me in a weird way, which I think just makes it all worse).

    Nicky Peterson

    pathetic

    Jared Arbizu

    What's pathetic?

    RainbowCatMagics

    @Jared Arbizu Nicky's trolling

    Hannah Davidson

    @Nicky Peterson ;P

  67. tranquil edge
