Was this track included on an American CD release? Found it hard to track down. Can anyone shed light on this please?

There is a special european edition of this album, which has a bonus CD. On the bonus CD you can find two bonus tracks recorded during the In Absentia sessions: "Drown With Me" and "Chloroform".

@Alessandro Passante My wife brought a PT album home from the States around 2003/4? It included this song but the album cover does not match the one we had. I say had because unfortunately we lost it...

@Russell Barnard There is an album by PT called Anesthetize, which is a collection of songs played live. It includes a live version of Drown With Me, maybe that's the album your wife found!

Just came across PT a few months ago. Why am I always late for the best things. This is just bliss. Haven't heard a bad song yet. I guess they'll keep me busy this summer. Some people will consider me lucky hearing these songs for the first time.

I cant believe this isn't on spotify. I'm a newbie to Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree (about 2 years) and its all I listen to anymore and even after thinking ive heard all the songs THIS F*CKING GEM IS HERE ON YOUTUBE. I'm buying all of their cds next week. Screw it ill go broke, its worth it. Ill be homeless with a boombox and be happy as hell with PT by my side

It's worth it. Been listening to them for years, but this year decided to buy everything. Currently at 25 PT/Wilson albums. That's not even including his work pre-Gavin. That's next.

I love that song, I love everything about these guys...

You know why Steven Wilson is a great story teller? Check the chorus: The four voices are the voices in the head of the psycopath and here ( 3:52 ) is the psycopath screaming.
He made something similar in Heartattack in a Layby when you can hear Steven at the end of that song making a sound similar to an ambulence.

Also I notice that In Absentia has two endings:
Ending 1. "Heartattack in a Layby" - The killer dies in his car, escaping from his family, before doing something.
Ending 2 from the B-Side: "Drown with Me" - The killer kills a girl and uses his car to move the corpse. By doing that he become insane.

Dream took inspiration from this. You can hear it at the end of the count of Tuscany.

This song sounds like it would belong more in The Incident.

I would say "signify"

this too hard rock for signify. The incident is a very interesting album, is one of their few album that mantains a certain theme will beign very mixed in turns of musical composition. That said, this is the only record where drown with would have fit in, just listen to the vibe, it matches the in abstentia vibe.

@steppenwolf the sound is also similar to the in absentia tracks, the synths, the acoustic acoustic, the thick harmonies from songs like lips of ashes and prodigal, definitely in absentia

The fact that this never ended up on the actual album will forever baffle me.

They should have included this on the album but not at the cost of the other songs, but, It could have fit on the album without replacing anything. Or they should have released an album with songs that didnt make it onto IA, D ,and FoaBP.

I was just looking to download it and had to settle for a live version of it.

This seems to fit the theme of In Absentia much better than say, The Sound of Muzak, as much as I love that song.

This is a bonus track.  What is it about?  It's about getting druuunk . . . and having a reason to do so.

+Max Bennie It's about the character taking a girl/guy down to a river for what would seem a romantic night out but the character drowns them and at the end explains that the victim's family has already suffered the same fate.

+James Salter The lyrics are in the head of a girl who is contemplating suicide. She constantly berates herself and even convinces herself that she won't be missed.
