Porcupine Tree - Anesthetize Lyrics
A good impression of myself
Not much to conceal
I'm saying nothing
But I'm saying nothing with feel
No way I...
Shut up, be happy
Stop whining please
Because of who we are
We react in mock surprise
The curse of "there must be more"
So don't breathe here,
Don't leave your bags
No way I...
Shut up, be happy
Stop whining please
The dust in my soul
Makes me feel the weight in my legs
My head in the clouds
And I'm zoning out
I'm watching TV
But I find it hard to stay conscious
I'm totally bored
But I can't switch off
Only apathy from the pills in me
It's all in me, all in you
Electricity from the pills in me
It's all in me, all in you
Only MTV, cod philosophy
We're lost in the mall
Shuffling through the stores like zombies
What is the point?
What can money buy?
My hand's on a gun
And I find the range, God tempt me
What did you say?
Think I'm passing out
[x2]
Only apathy from the pills in me
It's all in me, all in you
Electricity from the pills in me
It's all in me, all in you
Only MTV, cod philosophy
Water so warm that day (water so warm that day)
I counted out the waves (I counted out the waves)
As they broke into shore
I smiled into the sun
The water so warm that day
I was counting out the waves
And I followed their short life
As they broke on the shoreline
I could see you
But I couldn't hear you
You were holding your hat in the breeze
Turning away from me in this moment
You were stolen as black across the sun
Water so warm that day (water so warm that day)
I counted out the waves (I counted out the waves)
As they broke into shore (as they broke into shore)

Porcupine Tree Anesthetize Comments
i feel like porcupine tree and opeth could collab on a song or an album and it would probably fit rather well.
John Wesley is truly an unsung hero of this band. The solo... Incredible!
Es el baterista más sólido que he escuchado, y la banda increíble! 🤗😍
These live recordings give me immense pleasure. I wish I could watch them live.
Reputamadre el mejor tema wn
Man, Richard is so underrated. So locked in, not that the other boys aren't, but plays his parts and doesnt get in anyone's way. Such a treat to listen to.
I play drums in a rock band, and I have a guitar player in that band that will occasionally give me those looks that Richard gives to Gavin when he does something cool. And let me tell you, I live for those moments.
Wow! 16:28
thats the kind of concert u come out and feel like every penny was worth it and even more
With the tragic death of Neal Peart today, Gavin ascends the throne. Long live Gavin Harrison, the new Greatest Active Drummer in the World.
Masterpiece
The new "Shine on you crazy diamond"
Can that last third of the song just last forever.... matches my mood
The songs keeps my head rolling for the complete 17.5 minutes
1:40, 3:27, 4:45, 9:01, 16:46
That AWESOME moment you realise, you've just found a UNBELIEVABLE new band to add to your list... That drummer though.. WOW, thanks Scott bass lessons lol
Gavin 6:19 / 8:57 / 10:35 /12:05
Puto gavin Harrison!! Es mi ídolo tocando la batería!! 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
8:57- Ladies & Gentleman, Mr. Gavin Harrison.
Fuck me this is AMAZING,Someone give the drummer some oxygen!!!
A lot of Porcupine Tree stuff is mildly "Ok Boomer" worthy, but why does it make so much sense and why is it so damned good?
4:08 - 7:19
My favourite part 🤟🏻
Give me chills
I ❤️ Steven Wilson & Porcupine Tree!
They just dont make music like this anymore :’(
try Opeth… they kinda fill the gap left by Porcupine Tree… well for me anyway. Cheers!
Sonor drums...the only serious choice!!!
Find someone who looks at you the way Barbieri looks at Harrison at 9:03
13:00 If someone in this planet could mix "Hell's Bells" with "Shine on Crazy Diamond", this is Steven Wilson. And with inspiration of Black Sabbath "Seventh Star". I'm talking serious!
3:51 when a dragon roars...
I'd love a drum cam video from this gig
You really should check Gavin performance of the song if you havent already ;)

Really inspiring and outstanding <3
I just noticed, after watching this 40 times... he's barefoot on stage. Shoutout to JB Brubaker for the flip flop trend too.
Tool lite. I mean this in a good way, these guys are fucking fantastic, just a softer sound than tool is all I'm saying but they're playing the same game flawlessly. This drummer is Danny Carey levels of great
Greatest Song ever.
This is the single greatest video on Youtube dot com
Masterpiece
epic song, i wish they would get back together some day
This is the reason why I have a sound card and studio monitors
Honest to god, music can't get much better than that.
Epic! that word is overused these days but this is truly epic , isn't it?
Love it when Steven puts a rasp in his voice
Reddit gang unite.
What a piece of music.........
seems like the keyboardist is a fan of Gavin´s
They sound soooooooo good live.
I am planning to make a short film on this song as a journey to my depression, OCD and psychopathic disorder, atleast that way I'll be able to describe what is exactly going on in my mind and I'll be engaged in something that is more meaningful than just fantasizing about impractical things like to go into the past and kill myself the day I was born, i am not strong enough to kill my current self. This constant conflict is exhausting.
Learn to play "Anesthetize's Heavy Part" on drums with The 1-Minute Drum Video!!!
Link to the quick lesson here : https://youtu.be/W9era1QauMc
I know is Alex Lifeson solo creation, how amazing it could be to have him invited for this film, wow!
I've watched this a thousand times. Every second of it is pure gold.
hey look it's marco minnemann on guitar
SONIDO PERFECTO, EXTRAORDINARIO BATERISTA, MUSICA HERMOSA!! EXCELENTE!!!
GAVIN HARRISON GIVING AN INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE ON THE DRUMS.....BEST SONG ON "FEAR OF A BLANK PLANET"............
Impressive drummer!
Greatest song of all time
Simply the best song
ever!
The little smiles from the keyboardist and bassist fill my heart with joy.
Can't believe it's been over a decade...
Reading Lunar Park again for the first time in years brought me back here
Heard of Porcupine Tree many many times before, how come this group is not a lot more famous? Someone mentioned Pink Floyd on the comments, is kind of the new generation of Floyd, loving it!!
More than music....it's art!!
as a drummer I so love the details Gavin gives making the song just another level, fast fillings are amazing but for me showing that Gavin plays for the music itself is the fill on 3:33 ending with the splashes.....so perfect.
what. a. fucking. song.
Gavin - Taste and chops personified! Beautiful!
A thumbs down on this gem is bad karma...just sayin'
I just have no words.
The drummer? Wow!
a true masterpiece
The legend Gavin Harrison
I think at the end, the audience ought to be the ones saying “Thank You!”
I really enjoy Steven's lead guitar work.
My brother told me I should pick up Fear of a Blank Planet in 2007 so I did...what a musical journey that album is, especially this song.
I can't believe I'm now discovering this... are they like.... the best? haha i'm serious what on earth this is incredible.
This song is so beautiful like Confortable Numb or Echoes.
Someone call the police because those drums just got murdered!!!
At 4:28 Steven is making sure John doesn't fuck up the solo
Why does he wave his hair all over his face like its 1992?
9.03 Barbieri’s face after Gavin’s fill doesn’t need words 😁
Does anyone know if this live version is in standard tuning or drop D? It sounds like it's in a higher key.
Gavin Harrison saved the guitar solo.
Gavin is just drums porn
Couldn't agree more, if there is any better live drumming on a single piece of music out there I haven't heard it.

And for the drummers out there, that hi hat fill after 15:18 is about as smooth as it gets🤘
It’s music like this and people like you guys who lend me faith in humanity again.
Fantastic track. These guys deliver !
2019, ojalá algún día se vuelvan a reunir :c.
Wow this was excellent
337 people play drums like Lars Ulrich
Hey someone please change my mind ,but I have yet to find a decent song by them other than this master piece . Please someone change my mind ? Any other songs even close to this ? This song is extremely good but it seems they cannot replicate it . Someone change my mind :( ...
Russia on Ice
@Cory MartinNot even close . This song was slow and very lame doesn't even come close to the other. There were flowing changes and very good chord changes . This russia song has the chorus going for it other than that it's extremely slow and boring .Any others (songs) ? I've listened to most . Or even a different band? I really like newer katatonia and some Soen but have yet to find similar songs from same band porcTree :/
@InstrumentalArcanum Arriving Somewhere but not here
Damn I just noticed that he was barefoot
pure masterpiece
That seventeen minutes gave me more satisfaction than being high on drugs or having sex pporcupine tree is my drug the most talented music artists in the world we cant find these music now days
My favourite song!!!
I can't imagine to live without this band!!!
Love this performance! However, that obvious prerecorded riff at 5:01 kinda annoys me. Any idea why they do this? Is it just to achieve that stereo effect from the album version?
It's not pre-recorded. Guitar pedals can make a loop of a sound. Steven made it. So strange don't you know it. It's something absolutely normal in guitar playing.
Look at the start of this song, and you'll see how the guitarist does it https://youtu.be/LOZ_Voe_laE
One of the greatest live performances to one of the greatest songs in the history of music. I miss you, PT.
Wow...this drummer rocks
Yeah, Gavin is well known in the drumming world. Just sick.
Bkz: Nejat Yavaşoğulları
Perfeição de música, desde o ritmo até a letra <3
Is it only me or would Mike Portnoy absolutely kill this on drums?
There is no portnoy... Only Harrison
Ciamik tenan
Somehow pink floyd got me here.. Never heard of these guys before but I'm really enjoying this unique music so far
There's so much more to enjoy!!
The drumming is somewhat similar to Pink Floyd's Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun
First heard of Steven Wilson producing Opeth's Blackwater Park near 20 years ago. Went from there and realized how innovative the man is.
Yes...hear the influences
noobz121 It used to surprise me that being from Poland where they toured regularly in the late ‘90s and early 2000’s I knew about them and seen them twice when at the same time English people I met never or rarely had any idea. Nothing changed since than.
