Pop, Iggy - Don't Look Down Lyrics

don't look down
they're making sorta crazy sounds
don't look down no
don't know who else came to kneel
on this empty battlefield
but when i hear that crazy s0und i don't look down
from central park to shanty town
i always hear that crazy sound
from new york to shanty town
there's always something else
don't look down. no

i went this morning to the cemetary
to see old rudy valentino buried
lipstick traces on his name
he never looked down
'cause they were making crazy sounds
from central park to shanty town
he always heard that crazy sound
there's always something else
don't look down. no

when i see you standing there
i can't see the clothes you wear
i just hear that crazy sound
and i can't look down
i've always heard that crazy sound
from new york to shanty town
there's always something else
don't look down. no
don't look down
ddn't look. don't look down

no i won't be bored i won't be there
look at life it s no piece of cake

when i hear that crazy sound
i don't look down
from central park to sl-lantr town
i lways hear rhat crazr soljnd
fiolq new rork to shanty town
there's always something else
don't look down. no
don't look down
ddn't look. don't look down

Bowie’s tonight album is basically an Iggy pop covers album. Much as I love the late great Mr Bowie they are not a patch on the Iggy originals

  19. B.... G....

i always thought it was shannon town i dont know what that meant but it sounded ok haha

  20. M.... C....

Yes it is new york to shanty town, I should know, my twin sister Anna Alfano and me (Mary) sang back up this song and (Angel) off the same album. It was loads of fun an experience I'll never forget.

    M.... C....

    M.... C....

Always thought it was china town!!!!!
What does he mean by crazy sounds?
    Thanks!!!!!!!!

    M.... C....

    kill me faster nexttime

    M.... C....

You sound great! I'm always reminded of Parliament-Funkadelic by your back-up vocal. Gorgeous sounds!

  21. m.... a....

'Lust' and 'Idiot' get all the props but this whole album is awesome.

    m.... a....

Lust and Idiot are such a comedown from EVERYTHING he'd done previously it's a shame. Fine albums by any OTHER standard, just not Iggy's.

    m.... a....

And this isn't compared to the stooges? Lust is the iggy album, and the idiot is particular to that time it was created. Both great albums, but to try and belittle them down to match this is ridiculous.

    m.... a....

@DiamorphineDeath Both great albums yes but he didn't 'belittle' them at all, he just intimated he likes 'New Values' more.....as do I. :)

    m.... a....

"Lust and Idiot are such a comedown from EVERYTHING he'd done previously it's a shame." That's exactly what he did. If you're going to take exception with my singular word choice there, at least see if it's valid or not as there was a lot more going on in that comment than him expressing his "like" for this album more, which he actually doesn't in his comment. Reading comprehension tough there amigo?

  22. m.... ....

By the way, it's "New York to shanty town", not "New York to China Town"

  23. m.... ....

this song is beautiful. Great arrangements. "I'm looking good"

  24. m.... ....

Bowie's cover is good too, in its own way.

  25. M.... S....

the bg vocals and sax make this

  26. B.... C....

I'm starting to accept that the widely loved and lamented Benjamin Orr of the Cars was pretty much an Iggy Pop clone, only with a better range.
    _sigh . . . ._

    B.... C....

really? Nah. not at all. Ben had his own style and thing down pat. Was he an Iggy fan? I'm sure he was.

  27. F.... ....

Who played sax on this track, was it David Sanborn?

    F.... ....

I don't know, but you could very well be right.  Iggy and Bowie did share a few musicians on their records.

    F.... ....

    +Faithlikeachild777 John Hardin

  28. D.... L....

I'm happy to have had the opportunity to hear voices so beautiful. I'm really delighted, really! Joined by my ear, my body and felt the heart thrilled me. Congratulations

  29. A.... A....

so glad you liked it, that really made Mary and I feel great...Thanks for the kind words, means a lot. Anna

  30. C.... ....

I've seen Iggy (and The Stooges, fucking awesome every time) several times over several decades, It never gets tired. Some artists are worth it

  31. D.... S....

Good Job Girl....i too shared a stage with the man.....crazy sound...i dont look down....~

  32. A.... ....

I'm impressed! If you and your sister sang on The Endless Sea I'm gonna be REALLY impressed.

  33. S.... S....

Angel & this perfect song , Don' t look down: voice, voice and words, great words.
was it about 1980? One of my best is "Tonight", from Lust..., with Voice & WORDS

  34. P.... ....

I swear Iggy must have been a yogi in a past life, he's so agile and in his body.

  35. t.... ....

It should be "Pop, Williamson & Bowie". :))

  36. s.... ....

    "Iggy Pop and James Williamson."
I mean.....what more can somebody ask for?

  37. m.... o....

great song very underrated record thanks for postin this i'm from chicago seen are friend james in 1980 had to sneek into a bar.they were very fucked up but it was fuckin great real punk rock thanks again

  38. J.... R....

had no idea Bowie's track was a cover. Very nice!

  39. D.... L....

I'll tell you one thing. You and your sister are to be congratulated ... beautiful, beautiful voices ...WONDERFUL!!!!!

  40. S.... F....

adore this song and love the album, i definately need a 'Iggy' in my life!

  41. R.... C....

    Serves you right.

  42. 6.... ....

    one of my fav songs!

  43. m.... ....

    Iggy just always sounded great.

  44. p.... ....

    Beautiful voices! bless you.

  45. M.... ....

I have a feeling you just made that story up

  46. l.... ....

@twinsinger is that you 2 on the album cover behind Iggy?

  47. k.... g....

i love dis song iggy is da most sexiest fuckin hottest man alive god i wish i was his age i would fuck his brains out

  48. N.... ....

I'm not trying to be super picky here but, Don't Look Down was written by Iggy Pop and James Williamson. Don't Look Down came out on New Values. There is no mention of song writing credit to David Bowie on New Values. China Girl and Tonight are co-written by both Iggy Pop and David Bowie. Neighborhood Threat was written by Bowie and Gardiner. Don't Look Down is my favorite song on the album, and is on the Top 3 songs from Iggy's "solo" stuff for me.

  49. L.... D....

@skellaway because bowie wrote them so it s his right to make his version on china girl, don t look down,tonight...

  50. 1.... ....

Wow twinsinger, that is soooo cool. This is the album that brought Iggy into the mainstream weather he wanted it or not. I'll think of you everytime I hear this now.

  51. p.... ....

This is a beautiful song. I've just started playing it on acoustic, and the chords are as glorious as those on Iggy and James' "Gimme Danger." Epic chord changes.

  52. d.... Q....

    @DailyBrusher - i'm sure Iggy wasn't complaining about that $ :-P

  53. D.... ....

    @twinsinger
Mary, I really want to thank you and your sister. I've been listening to this tune, this album continuously since the mid-80s, soundtrack of my life, and your vocals have always been a major part of why I so love this music! Thank you!

  54. D.... ....

    @skellaway
I think he recorded Iggy's songs to help him out - Iggy had part song-writing credit on those tunes, I guess, so I figure every time Bowie sold one of these albums, Iggy got a little check in the mail? Cause at that point, it didn't look like Iggy would ever pull himself together.

  55. G.... B....

& new york to shanty town

  56. r.... ....

I think the correct lyric is, "Who SCARED you".

  57. h.... ....

Wow, it must be great hearing this again! You were on a great album! Not a big hit but my favourite Iggy album.

  58. M.... C....

Wow so cool to hear this again, I remember how much fun my twin sister Anna and I had singing on that album. We just laid down our tracks but never got to meet Iggy. It was at Paramount recording studios in Hollywood, what a great experience, loved it, Mary.

  59. M.... P....

Hey Brad...it's my Mom's twin sisters. They live in So. Cal.

  60. B.... D....

Hey Marty ... Aunts for your Dad or Mom's side ?
I had this album ... I liked the song "I'm Bored" and "Five Foot One"

  61. M.... P....

How cool. The BGV's are my Aunts. Back in the day.

  62. r.... ....

DON'T GO GO LOCK DOWN UNDER WATER
    thee endless see.

  63. J.... R....

Amazing song, one of my favourite... Great album too.
Not very known but really great....

  64. R.... J....

beautiful song, but its shanty town. not china town
